  1. It looks like Minute Maid's move to Sugar Land is official with the sale of their building on St. James. Remainder of story here...
  2. Weather and perception. We think we did a great job in 04 but the weather sucked the first half of the week and while the parties were great and the Main Event was great, Houston doesn't have the perception, whether real or imagined, that Florida has (especially Miami). Dallas, or better yet Arlington, is even worse off on both counts.
  3. This Chronicle blog says to expect a stadium more similar to the new Colorado Rapids stadium than the Frisco stadium.
  4. Here are the current totals: Cosmopolitan - 1 crane Houston Pavilions - 4 cranes One Park Place - 2 cranes Sugar Creek Baptist Church (Sugar Land) - 1 crane Sugar Land Town Square - 1 crane BP Campus (Energy Corridor) - 2 cranes Rice's Collaborative Research Center - 2 cranes Methodist Outpatient Center - 2 cranes HCC - 1 crane West Avenue - 2 cranes 2727 Kirby - 1 crane Mosaic Tower 2 - 1 crane Memorial Hermann HQ - 2 cranes Smithlands parking garage - 1 crane Baylor teaching hospital - 1 crane Granite Tower (Sugar Land) - 1 crane Methodist Hospital Expansion (Sugar Land) - 1 crane Medical Center near the Texas Heart Institute - 1 crane TCH (Feigin Center) - 1 crane MD Anderson Garage (edge of bayou) - 1 crane Garage near Fannin and Greenbriar - 1 crane Medical tower on the site of the old Towers Motor Hotel - 4 cranes Park 8 - 1 crane West dallas garage/tunnel site next to Allen Center - 1 crane In (or near) HBU - 1 crane CURRENT TOTAL: 37
  5. There are a lot, that's why I thought it'd be cool to count them. Here's a preliminary listing of projects and assumed number of cranes. Feel free to edit and reply. Cosmopolitan - 1 crane Houston Pavilions - 3? One Park Place - 2 cranes Sugar Creek Baptist Church (Sugar Land) - 1 crane Sugar Land Town Square - 1 crane Energy Corridor - 1 crane Rice's Collaborative Research Center - 2 cranes Methodist Outpatient Center - 2 cranes HCC - 1 crane West Avenue - 1 crane 2727 Kirby - 1 crane Mosaic Tower 2 - 1 crane Memorial Hermann HQ - 1 crane Smithlands parking garage - 1 crane Baylor teaching hospital - 1 crane CURRENT TOTAL: 20
  6. There is such a building boom in the Houston metro right now, let's attempt to count the number of cranes currently up. Reply with a list of projects and number of cranes for each. Then increment the total from the previous post. I'll start us out. Cosmopolitan - 1 crane Houston Pavilions - 3? One Park Place - 2 cranes Sugar Creek Baptist Church (Sugar Land) - 1 crane Sugar Land Town Square - 1 crane Energy Corridor - 1 crane TOTAL: 9
  7. They won't be next to each other. Hermes will be in the new section that just started construction at the SE corner of the project. I believe Whole Foods will be at the NE corner. This is a huge development, there will be all types of stores/restaurants accounted for.
  8. I can't deny that. Kemah and Galveston are each an hour from Sugar Land.
  9. How is the comparison premature? Houston456 is looking to move soon. Your statement of "Sugar Land is older therefore it is better" is definitely a pro. It's already an award winning community with proven infrastructure. Hopefully Pearland will follow suit, but who knows? Once again, I'm from the area and see the benefits that Sugar Land provides.
  10. Mario for Adrian Peterson is not an equal trade. We would've had to add a LOT to it for that deal to work.
  11. Let's step back a minute. I've been anti Vince Young since the beginning, after all I am an Aggie. However, regardless of his stats, you have to admit that the guy knows how to win. It may be ugly, it may be unorthodox, but the guy can lead a team and win. I would take his "it" factor over many other QBs with better ratings. With Young on the field you just never know what can happen and can never count his team out. And that's hard for me to say.
  12. Well I can eliminate one of your Sugar Land cons. Sugar Land actually has a very low crime rate. You can't believe everything you hear on tv. There are several threads on this site about Sugar Land's crime stats, look them up and you'll see. It's no surprise why Sugar Land was named the 3rd best place to live by CNN/Money just last year. As you can tell I prefer Sugar Land. I haven't been to Pearland much but it seems more like Katy (meaning unmanaged sprawl) to me. Sugar Land is more like its own town with organized growth, little traffic, and already very mature. Furthermore, the traffic situation is only getting better with 59, whereas 288 is getting worse. Feel free to ask more specific questions. I can answer them for you. EDIT: Here's some of that info I was telling you about:
  13. I'm just upset that we've made such little progress. We should be 5-2 right now, not 3-4. I don't know what's going on down on Kirby, but the offense is inconsistent, the defense is subpar, the lines on both sides of the ball are in the bottom quartile of the league. Where is the improvement? I'm still a fan and I think we can still have success this year, but I'm not nearly as confident as I was in the preseason.
  14. Not you citykid, there was actually a poster named "What" who came on the board several months ago only to stir things up with negativity. That poster appears to have left, thankfully.
  15. This is great news! I just hope they do consider submerging this light rail for Uptown at least at the major intersections. If not, I'd have to say I might not even be for it. There are so many people that could benefit, but if done wrong, there are even more that would be negatively affected.
  16. Here is the proposed route from the blog.
  17. I think Missouri City does have a bad reputation. I'm not sure why though, the crime is actually VERY low. Way lower than national and state numbers and I think it may even be lower than Sugar Land's. I do like the logo, not sure about the slogan.
  18. Demolition began today on the Hunan portion of the Pavilion. It shouldn't take too long to tear that portion down then begin breaking up the parking lot for the new foundation of phase 1.
  19. So did Kubiak pull Schaub in the 4th because of his poor play? Or was it just to give Sage and others some garbage time?
  20. Any team from the NFC anyhow. The AFC is much stronger this year.
  21. Why? Because these 5 people on segways are making the rest of us fat?
  22. Yes, it could go down that track that parallels HWY 90 on the northern side.
  23. The intersection at HWY 6 & HWY 90 is now open! Hwy 6 now has a bridge over University (in front of Sams), HWY 90, and the train track. This will be a HUGE time saver for thousands of drivers that drive thru this intersection every day. Plus the infrastructure is now ready for the Telfair retail, mixed use development planned for the SW corner of the intersection.
