  1. Blog or not, you wanted subsidies, you got subsidies.
  2. I found something on government subsidies for airlines. http://hasbrouck.org/blog/archives/001001.html
  3. I wasn't really agruing that anyways, or I would have quoted someone's post to show that I was. Sure, some people on this thread are saying they'd drive instead on taking a plane or train, but my point is still valid. I can't count the number of times that that arguement has come up when talking about the possiblity of high speed rail in Texas. Why is it that some think that some how an airport can service a city or region, and a rail station downtown can only serve people going to downtown. If this thread continues long enough, it will come up.
  4. Here's a cool little map. http://www.statesman.com/search/content/ne...traintexas.html Airlines will oppose trains until they become transportation companies. Continental Railways and Southwest Rail might sound nice. Until that happens, the airlines will work to, and probably, kill high speed rail in Texas every time.
  5. I have to call bullmanure on the I'll-need-a-car-at-my-destination-so-I-have-to-fly-on-a-plane-instead-of-taking-a-high-speed-train agruement. If you need a car when get off the train, rent one at the station. It would be the same as the airport. I'm sure if these trains and stations where built now and in Texas, they would have car rental agencies in or next to the stations. Texas may not be like that in the Northeast, or Europe, or Japan, or where ever, but here the stations could acommidate car rental.
  6. Actually, Austin usually does things at a glacial pace. This commuter line, while nice, is a very watered down version of a light rail plan from 2000 that was defeated by right around 500 votes.
  7. I want to live in that city. Sounds like a lot of fun.
  8. One pic of a man and woman running was taken in front of Hickory Street Grill at 8th and Congress in Austin. FYI.
  9. How bout this from CNN. http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/14/news/compa...sion=2007031412
  10. Here's a negative one for balance. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4627689.html
  11. Where's the Frio? We need tons of rain NOW!
  12. Austin's Hard Rock did close. It was at 6th and San Jacinto. Hard Rock said it was a bad location. Sure, right in the middle of downtown and on 6th street. What a bad location.
