  1. Then you have not done any good.
  2. A LOT of voters live outside the loop but move the needle during local elections
  3. My guess is initial renderings are intended to drum up investor interest, and final renderings more accurately reflect economic reality.
  4. I'm sure they have their reasons, but you make it sound like its easy to just buy up land and build residential DT. The area near Bissonet is far my attractive for residential than DT. It's established as a residential area whereas DT has many years before it becomes established for residents 24 hrs and not just workers for 9 hrs/day.
  5. The article in the chronicle sites a new city agreement to expand the uptown tirz and a new $556MM transit project (to include bus) By Minh Dam 1:33 PM City leaders announced on Thursday details for a more than $500 million plan to construct a mass transit corridor on Post Oak Boulevard and provide much needed improvements to Memorial Park. The transit project Read more: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/500-million-project-would-create-Uptown-transit-4427406.php#ixzz2QBRQ70ZV
  6. Seems like a long shot. A project of this scope should have a more informative website. It looks more like a website built for a junior high project with no information.
  7. That Midtown Terrace? I wouldn't count on it looking nice at all. I remember when they took over the Days Inn they said people would think confuse it for a 5 star hotel. The final product looks more like a seedy motel in a border town. That part of the Midtown neighborhood needs something different to liven it up a little.
  8. It's a redo of the old Knights of Columbus building. I was sure that building was destined for a gentleman's club, since there were previously no windows.
  9. The site still shows the two towers in the plans. All I've read is that the residential and hotel towers are on hold, but still part of the site plan. This only seems prudent given the current economy. Has something changed, and are these towers permanently axed?
  10. Thanks for the shots. That update does make me laugh though, because it's a big construction site and the only sign of life is some poor guy pushing a broom on the far end.
  11. Generally speaking the churches located downtown have a much better approach in dealing with, and helping the homeless. Christ Church Cathedral feeds the homeless three days a week, but also offers laundry services and showers (which is more important than most would think). They also offer medical and psychological services. They also don't tolerate loitering around while their services are not offered. If you head their while they are serving people, then yes naturally there are homeless everywhere. If you walk by during the time they are closed, then you wouldn't even know they provide those services. I guess actually being part of community can dictate how you operate vs. the out of town churches that simply feed a bunch of homeless and hop on the Tollroad back to suburbia.
  12. There is a lot of involvement (public officials, etc.) on this project now for it to be dead. That doesn't mean things can't change of course. ChannelTwoNews - my only point was that most "groundbreakings" are mostly ceremonial. In this case, I'm optimistic this project gets going soon.
  13. They didn't say construction had started, but that they had a "ground breaking". All that means is some semi-important people got to dig around in a makeshift sandbox.
  14. I met the guy who owns the Magnolia hotel at a wedding in Denver. He said they changed the name to the Magnolia when they moved into the old Mobil building in downtown Dallas. Just an interesting side bar with nothing to do with the thread topic.
  15. Wrong topic, I know, but what kind of asbestos issues are there with the old Days Inn? Does anybody know?
  16. capn - I noticed this as well. To me "ubiquitous" is almost contrary to the description of an exclusive property. I guess it just sounds like a fancy word, and the developer assumes most will gloss right over it.
  17. I noticed a variance sign at the "curve" on Shepherd just over the overpass at W. Dallas and Shepherd (near Tila's restaurant). There is an existing office building where the sign was. Does anybody know what the plans are for this site? It looks awfully cramped.
  18. I lived in NYC. Trust me, it gets so hot and muggy there you wouldn't believe it. At least we have the relief of good A/C once you reach your destination in Houston.
  19. I wonder if we would all get along better face-to-face than we do sometimes anonymously.
  20. We all have enough retail to fill our NEED, but a fair amount of us WANT more retail options DT.
  21. Maybe you're talking about the parking garage going up by Heritage Plaza?
  22. North. It's a shorter trip from Huntsville anyway.
  23. Any news on this project? Nothing seems to be moving at the site. Someone posted on this thread a while back that Jan-Feb 07 would be a start date. Maybe they meant 08.
