  1. OPEN! Go back amd look at my first post!!!!! h O L L A - haven't tried it up but will do this week. New BRB up next
  2. I walk to the area now to Boheme, Fairview and although it's not dead by any means I think MWD will really bring the area to life. The entire area all the way up Taft will see more restaurants, bars and activity in the next couple years IMO. I hear you and would probably call myself out if I saw a post like that I'm just excited to be buying a house on this side of Midtown and all the new development around.
  3. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/27755-new-springhill-suites-hotel/#entry418974 What do you think? Good or bad thig? I personally believe better as apts
  4. It's not like I need more options I just think there's money to be made - I was in louisville last week and went to a subway at 1 AM - the fact that the subway in the heart of midtown next to shot bar closes at 10pm is the craziest thing to me _ no shit they are missing out on a tens of housansa Thousands**
  5. If you did this on reddit you would be in bad shape. Merge threads - being discussed elsewhere ...
  6. Game Changer - should liven up the area. MAX"S WINE DIVE! http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/03-25-13-maxs-wine-dive-plans-to-open-a-second-houston-location-creating-a-new-foodie-corner/
  7. Right before Hardy dumpts to 45 you can see about 9 cranes ?- didn't have my phone ready but I'll snap a more recent pic. Pretty impressive.
  8. Way to ruin my thunder! JK - in any case I posted from my phone quickly bc I was jacked after my aforementioned great night out in MS - I can't believe what else is in the works! Sorry for the delayed respones... Romas was a good slice - $3 quick and easy can't beat it. (Why is there no legit late night spot in Midtown ) Waffle House? Clutch City's prices were very reasonable - bartender was very chatty "in a good way" owner was talking to us too. Happy Hour 4-9 $5 gets you a TX Draft and a shot of Jameson.
  9. Looks like les grivals will be replaced by restaurant and coffee shop next door http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2013/03/clumsy_butcher_bobby_heugel_an.php Man my post was spot on!! Stolen from reddit The 300-500 block of Main just became... (self.houston) submitted 3 hours ago by fixedtehknollpost The densest concentration of bars in the city. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2013/03/clumsy_butcher_bobby_heugel_an.php http://www.29-95.com/bars-clubs/story/heugel-company-open-tequia-bar-main-st The surrounding area anyway. At least 15 full bars and a brewpub in less than a two block radius. And there are at least two more coming. From nearly dead to an entertainment district in under 18 months.
  10. Game changer - build it while we can!! Oils up - htowns hot - why only cookie cutter apts and sprawled Developement - ill guarantee this a success trust me I stayed at a holiday inn expresses last night!
  11. Between Dogwood on Bagby - new OTC (Union Bar) & this new addition Midtown nightlife is definitely picking up - the cynic in me can't help but wonder if Midtown isn't going to get a flow of a certain crowd from Washington Ave.
  12. This just got personal C H I P O T L E - now so much closer this is bad... real bad for my waistline.
  13. Spent Tuesday night downtown with a buddy. Started at Franklin Tap - then over to OKRA - then to Clutch City Squire and finished off the night with a NYC Slice from Roma's Pizza. Had a great night and all the new spots had customers and were not dead by any means. Talked to one of the owners of Clutch City - the building has a ridiculous history including a "one-way" safe door only opened from the former bank next door. I will be bringing friends to this area and truly believe it has a ton of potential to put a huge booster shot in DT nightlife. Also, the additional nearby spots that are just empty waiting for something new; I believe could be a huge benefit. Now just pump in one or two residential towers and we would be "cooking with kerosene" ! http://houston.eater.com/archives/2013/03/20/a-look-inside-goro-gun-opening-friday.php "Started with Original OKRA Charity Saloon and continued with Clutch City City Squire is only building more momentum with Goro & Gun. By the beginning of April, Justin Burrow's Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar and Spirit Lounge and Latin American restaurant Batanga will open"
  14. Stopped by Market Square last night after a bike ride with a friend. Started at Franklin Tap (Former Magnolia Brewery) then checked out OKRA. Very nice night and both places were not dead by any means for a Tuesday night. OKRA inside is really beautiful.
  15. Wow - wonder what hear 15 are gonna list @@
  16. True - give it 6-9 months and something new will pop up then it may just be a convenience to be so close. I see more bars popping up further down Bagby as construction finishes. Is UNION bar closed? PS -I've posted about it before but can we please install and light up Bagby at night. Pitch black still many months later.
  17. Do you live in the red brick or the white stucco? Already pretty busy area - and it's not a club but a bar
  18. When I saw this post I figured Cafe Layal was closing down. I live close and it is pretty dead on most nights. Nice place, I've been and enjoyed it but something is off on the set-up / interior. Glad to see the improvements and maybe I need to give it another shot!
  19. Also why the lights last? It's even know more dangerous than before with zero street lighting! Tonight I watched a guy come an inch of his life at Bagby and Mcgillhenry - to know major fault he driver it was pitch black

  21. That's cool for Dallas. I want to hate on big D as an adopted Houstonian I like it here so much more... but this is just gravy at this point for DART maybe they are looking at McKinney Ave Trolley and thinking today people for some reason like to ride an old trolley car even in a car obsessed city like Dallas. Yes, Oak Cliff is not Uptown but it's pretty funky and gentrifying quickly. I have a friend who's mom lives there after 75 years and she said the new "white influx" is extremely strange.. From her mouth: when a white man used to come to my door it was either police or a bill collector; now I don't answer as it's another person trying to low-ball me for my house.
  22. Very cool - someone told me the other day about urban planning and thinking in decades or half centuries over years. I firmly believe that the less jails and b.s. you build on along the bayou downtown will one day pay off.
  23. Here's my slightly different proposal for this line. Title:THE SOLUTION I think this train should ride the existing heavy rail tracks as to get service as soon as possible and it will probably have delays like Amtrack in the Midwest. FYI The Canadian Railway treats Amtrak like a a read headed step child. This will take money but can be done, the estimates from Metro and the articles lay out a 10 year plan.. With a little money provided by a new cruise ship tax? Pay UP or whatever railroad and get permission to use the tracks and give them the ultimate right-of-way. I think this could be done in 4-5 years with the construction of side tracks to get out of the way. All that being said I think weekend service and possibly once or twice daily service could catch on, be a benefit for both cities and maybe even make a little money. The money to fund this would need to be slit between Houston/Galveston and any other cities that get a stop if not lets fly by them. This needs to be operated by a separate and possibly stand-alone operation i.e. Metra in Chicago ( which is not CTA or Amtrak) and can from time to time be reliable/ make a small profit. Here's the idea... Leave downtown - arrive close the seawall not at some transit center many miles away. The right branding and commercials all over town showing probably Padre or some other nice beach and reasonable fares, side by side with 45 jam packed with traffic where it backs up on the small hill close to Hobby. BAMMMM a profitable and niche service that I as a Midtown resident would use on the 2-3 times per summer I go to Galveston. No need for a DD and no need to sit on Hobby wasting away while everyone in the car wonders why did traffic stop short of the belt-way for no reason whatsoever. Everyone must agree I am a genius!
  24. Very cool answers! Thanks for the replies, never thought about self driving cars and how that might play out with rail and roads. My prediction would be areas to the East will grow too as an option for people working DT & MC who don't want to live in the crazy booming and more costly West & North. Cheers!
