  1. Very cool - someone told me the other day about urban planning and thinking in decades or half centuries over years. I firmly believe that the less jails and b.s. you build on along the bayou downtown will one day pay off.
  2. Here's my slightly different proposal for this line. Title:THE SOLUTION I think this train should ride the existing heavy rail tracks as to get service as soon as possible and it will probably have delays like Amtrack in the Midwest. FYI The Canadian Railway treats Amtrak like a a read headed step child. This will take money but can be done, the estimates from Metro and the articles lay out a 10 year plan.. With a little money provided by a new cruise ship tax? Pay UP or whatever railroad and get permission to use the tracks and give them the ultimate right-of-way. I think this could be done in 4-5 years with the construction of side tracks to get out of the way. All that being said I think weekend service and possibly once or twice daily service could catch on, be a benefit for both cities and maybe even make a little money. The money to fund this would need to be slit between Houston/Galveston and any other cities that get a stop if not lets fly by them. This needs to be operated by a separate and possibly stand-alone operation i.e. Metra in Chicago ( which is not CTA or Amtrak) and can from time to time be reliable/ make a small profit. Here's the idea... Leave downtown - arrive close the seawall not at some transit center many miles away. The right branding and commercials all over town showing probably Padre or some other nice beach and reasonable fares, side by side with 45 jam packed with traffic where it backs up on the small hill close to Hobby. BAMMMM a profitable and niche service that I as a Midtown resident would use on the 2-3 times per summer I go to Galveston. No need for a DD and no need to sit on Hobby wasting away while everyone in the car wonders why did traffic stop short of the belt-way for no reason whatsoever. Everyone must agree I am a genius!
  3. Where is the Sunnyland Wharehouse? Went back in thread can't find location. TY
  4. I'm not sure your post was in the wrong place - although likely do you know if BRB building is going to be demolished? Excited to see this block continue to change / side note the Dogeood Bar is really coming along next door
  5. Via Swamplot - http://www.houstonvoice.org/2013/02/05/after-serving-houstons-lgbt-country-genre-since-1979-the-brb-is-closing/ 2400 Brazos St, Houston, TX BRB Closing sold the land - woner what will be coming here? There is also that little Printing shop and the empty lot on the corner that seems destined for something new as well.
  6. I was just curious what happens to the lot. I knew about the arson. Thinking about it some more; could be a while before it gets sorted out sold/taken from him. Saw some squatters inside in the former beer garden while riding my bike over the weekend.
  7. Any idea on what is happening here? Looks pretty bad half burned down
  8. I used to ride Amtrak in Illinois in college and would get on at the same small town station as the newly freed inmates. They would get off bus with guards with rifles then get on train with me sans guards wearing all white; we'd hit the drink car together and every time they would roam the cars borrowing people's phones screaming I'm out come pick me up!!!Fun times
  9. I got excited but seeing the lack of a response probably means this is the longest of long shots. I agree with one of the comments on swamplot - until the Greyhound Station is moved - nothing will happen to Central Square. Yesterday I was driving down Grey came up to the light at Main. A lunatic man came up to my hood and dumped a bag of McDonalds trash on my hood and screamed at himself/me?. There was a constable right by the High Rise he threw his hands up and I drove East. Strange people all the time around that Gas Station/McDonalds/Greyhound station. Could you imagine watching the goings on from high up on 2016 Main - it would be better than reality TV.
  10. James - cant open on iPad, went back through the thread too. seriously not trolling
  11. Have we confirmed here or elsewhere that the construction past Bayou Place & Sundance across the Buff Bayou is for this line?
  12. Was the Route 66 Cafe any good? Don't know the history - can someone give me the history of the other side of Main St. - I mean when did it all close up? After light rail? Long before? There is a lot of potential especially 1-3 blocks away from Main East of Tracks. Don't know the history - dont want to get to side-tracked can start a new topic if need be. Grazie!
  13. Construction gutting the place right now. Kobeque***
  14. That makes sense and will passify me for a couple weeks; expect another snappy email from me at the end of FEB
  15. You know how I know this is a federal government project? They are adding one piece of reflective glass per week. lol Seriously though...
  16. Any insiders know who owns this property? With the Bagby Re-Do it's screaming to be developed. Also, I know there is a historic plaque outside but any inside info on 3004 Bagby Houston - looks like it might have been a Latino Museum? Grazie!
  17. Signs up on every sign of the block. The brick structure/wall always intruiged me and the lofts next door are cool re-use of an old building. Anyone know whats up?
  18. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8887183 Federal spending waste in Houston? Did anyone post this?
  19. I live in Midtown now, every morning I wake up and as I drive down Brazos heading to 45... I think the whole time as I pass full blocks of great bars, restaurants where is my Super Target? Where is DSW Shoe Wharehouse? This article is insane, those things exist and are being built up in Rice Military / Heights as we speak. Midtown has some issues sure, lack of big box stores is not one of them. I think the larger issue with Midtown is the light rail barrier (which can be breached) and the multitude of homeless charities expanding faster than condos/apts. i.e. they aren't going anywhere. I have no problem with the homeless in Midtown but as mentioned on 100 + threads on this forum, it's not ideal for a growing neighborhood and although I am understanding they need to operate somewhere and you can't have it both ways / move to The Woodlands, there is an excess amount of drifters and all around shady characters East of the tracks. For the haters who are going to say I live in Midtown and I have never experienced ..... I dare you to walk down Caroline from Elgin to Pierce Elevated on any night and count the times you are hit up for money and see how safe you feel approaching 45. Friend got held up by gunpoint in house condo next to Baldwin Park less than two months ago.
  20. Wish I had some news but walked past last night and noticed a rendering of a future cafe/retail on the Grey St. Side of the building. Is that new or has it been there?
  21. Looks like I started a hot topic - I am very curious about the Freedman's town - 4th Ward - thanks for the subject change. It's no wonder everyone has opinions from the people living in the area to those like me who live around it - with the long history of the area and the new squeze of new developement the next five years should be extremely interesting for the immediate area around the new Post/Camden Grey St. Cheers.
  22. I guess I am looking for some thoughts on this immediate area - Freedman's town seems to be getting squezed from all sides with developement. Any insight on living in Freedman's town?
