  1. I had not heard this, but I had the feeling that might have been at least a part of the reason. I never knew Dave, but I remember Ben and Herman from the early 50s. I knew Martin, although not that well. But I knew he was getting up near the age where he might want to retire. I hate to see Kaplan
  2. My first real date was to the Cinerama to see How The West Was Won. I "doubled" with my sister and her boyfriend. I was in junior high at the time.
  3. I just heard from my mom this morning that Kaplan's is closing its doors next month. If you are familiar with this store, if, like me, you frequented this wonderful store since the time you were a kid, and if you knew the Kaplan family over the years, then maybe you can understand how really sad this news was to me. I suppose it is tough for a specialty store like Kaplan's to compete with Internet buying. I guess this closing was inevitable. But it is like losing a member of the family for me.
  4. Yeah, check it out, T-Bird. You won't be disappointed. There is the one on Richmond just inside the Loop, and another on Dairy Ashford just south of I-10. Those pork chpos are so tender you can cut 'em with a fork!
  5. To get on the Larry Kane Show, I had to take dancing from a guy named Jerry Roe (I think) at Bill Mraz Ballroom on W 34th. Well, that's the way it was supposed to work. I quit taking the lessons before I got to go on the show.
  6. Last interview I saw, probably last year (50th anniversary), Lewis was still being asked about that play.
  7. Arch Yancy was another at KNUZ.
  8. Atomic, my performance was in 1958, a bit before your time. In the early 70s, I wasn
  9. I remember them being three-dimensional figures, and they were kneeling, one on either side of the fire. They were not on top of the building, rather on the overhand of the entrance. I believe they were on the Fannin Street side, so you wouldn't necessarily see them from Main.
  10. I came home on leave in 1970, and my mom gave me a couple of Oilers
  11. Well, I did kinda sorta say that to her as if I WAS somebody.
  12. I was on their show in the 5th grade. A group of us from Love Elementary square danced at Woodland Park, and our group danced on the show which was taped at the Prudential Building on Holcomb. I was at a restaurant in Bastrop not long ago, and the owner was connected to many musicians. One of the posters in the restaurant was of Edgar Winter. I told the woman that I got my show biz start at the same place as did Edgar. She looked hard at me, and finally asked,
  13. Last week I had 4 tickets to the Texans game, and stupidly left them lying on the seat of the car while I ran in Home Depot. While I was in there, someone must have broken into the car, because there were 8 tickets on the seat when I got back.
  14. Not sure what that building is, but I would guess it is near the Pierce Elevated, possibly near St. Joseph.
  15. I remember an amusement park from the past called "Astroworld". Anyone remember it?
  16. That story was related in a segment from "Houston Remember When".
  17. If I am not mistaken, Julius LaRosa sang the National Anthem at the opening Dome game
  18. I saw my very first pro football game at Jeppesen in 1958. I got to see Bobby Lane play in his last season.
  19. The building at the top center is Christie's Seafood.
  20. Nope, no mention of Bay Shore Park in La Porte. However, there was a segment on the
