7-Eleven drops Houston based Citgo gasoline

it's houston related and i was wondering if this makes a large impact or not...

i don't know much about this sort of thing. is this a wise decision?

Chavez probably won't lose any sleep over the matter but it's a wise PR move on 7-11's part. Whether you like Bush or not Chavez's comments were pretty offensive and juvenile for the leader of a country. The best comeback I've heard to his "the stage still smells of sulphur" comment was "he who smel't it dealt it".

NNNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! 7 elevn drop citgo? Why aer all these desisions being made shortley after they decide to move to Houston? Now Citgo's busness is going to be less when they lose out on a custoemr base from 7elevn. Wi8th 7elven droping citgo, it will stifle the busness which could result in citgo not being as big of a major player in the U.S. That sucks!

forgive me but what do you mean by this?

BTW: Zebra. I think you'd do us all a favor by using a spellcheck feature. Most computers of the millineum decade should have them! ;)

Im glad they're dropping them. Chavez is a jackass and by calling the President the devil in our own country is just unacceptable. Only we can call him names!

And I agree with the look of Citgo stations, I don't think I have ever seen one that is decent looking. They all look rundown.

Take it as constructive criticism. If you load the Google toolbar it has a good spell checker. Running the spell check against your posts is a good way to improve your spelling.

Well, since we do not have anymore 7 Eleven's here, what happens to the Citgo stations, are they being boy-cotted by the local houstonians?

I no longer go to Citgo gas, but I WILL buy other things at the station if I need to. Gasoline sales go straight to the nation of Venezuela while the actual money maker for the stations are what's sold inside.

Hate to throw out facts and statistics, but Venezuela is the third leading importer of crude to the US behind Canada and Mexico. Being that Citgo isn't the third largest gas station in America, chance are you are buying gas made from Evil Chavez's oil a lot more than you think.

You're on the mark. The energy industry is so completely incestuous that there really isn't any effective way to boycott any particular company that is any further downstream than your local gas retailer...and the retailer is usually privately-owned, so boycotters may just end up hurting a small business owners more than Chavez.

The best thing for us lowly consumers to do would be to lobby for political pressure to be placed upon Chavez. He may just blow it off, but even if the U.S. government were to ban oil imports from Venezuala, we'd just import more from other exporting countries, and other importing countries would just import more from Venezuala; the effect would be a wash.

Not to mention the fact that 7-11 decided A YEAR AGO to use more distributors than just Citgo. This move had nothing to do with Chavez's remarks. 7-11 is just trying to play up that angle.

Besides, we call more people names than anyone else. In fact, we called Chavez names first. Who even cares (other than 7-11)?

Citgo has big brand loyalty in New England. First, there's the famous sign near Fenway Park in Kenmore Square. Second, their stations are everywhere. Finally, Chavez/ Venezuela have institituted a low-cost home heating oil service for low income families around New England, affectively cutting a qualifier's average bill in HALF.

You can question his motives all you want, but the people who can afford to heat their homes don't care!

Did you mean "exporter of petroleum"?

Because its #4, behind Saudi Arabia (in crude oil exports to the U.S.) Source

Its #3 in Petroleum. Besides, Petroleum companies don't just sell gas at the gas pumps. But energy (crude oil/petroleum) companies have wells in alot of various nations.

So in conclusion, it is impossible to boycott one nation/person by simply not buying from one company. As said many times before, you only hurt the local store owners.

The local "store owners" that lend an eye sore to the community? Most non branded gas stations are horrible. They sell Condoms everywhere, beer, porn and a bunch of 99cent store junk... I'll stick with Valero or another decent looking store.
