Triton
It's hilarious how much this forum hates this development but I will say, so many within the Asian community are talking about this place in a positive light. Bori is quite famous in Spring Branch, so to be able to attend a major event in the city and then come here afterwards or beforehand is something that a lot of foodies and people who know the Bori name are excited for.

We don't hate development at all. We just hate parking lots.

Most of the people coming here will definitely be coming from the burbs. With so many no parking zones or barely any parking in this area, I think they had to do it.

They should have demolished this house. Why bother keeping it? Â I am in the middle on zoning, but if you want to be a proponent, Lovett St is the perfect example of why zoning is a good thing... just one block south is the protected single family street of Courtland Place. That street is full of significant mansions on beautiful lots near the city center. Lovett was the same... Now its a mixture of few remaining mansions, townhome farms, commercial shops, and parking lots. It could have been 'Embassy Row' and had the mansions converted into businesses that aren't destroying the original beauty. Last thought - This could be considered a form of 'gentrification'; the bad kind that slowly destroys the original fabric of the area. This hasn't been a wealthy area in a long time but managed to keep its character. I am still bitter about the townhome farm on the corner of Taft and Lovett that took down the Carrier Mansion.

Oh yeah no to all of this. I really and truly do just hate parking lots. (And gated communities like Courtland Place).

I can agree with you there. Either way, I'll enjoy this place with my family. Been out in Asia for several months and we are already craving Korean BBQ again. lol
hindesky
Looks ready to be either paved over or with concrete. Notice the drains and expansion boards, so probably concrete. Â Â

Texasota
Why do I feel like they've done this poorly and are just going to dump runoff into the house's foundation.

Avossos
wouldn't it be just wild if they did all this work to essentially gut the historic charm out of this house and their restaurant never opened.
Texasota
It's genuinely amazing how much worse it looks.
hindesky
Prepping for the sidewalk and the rest of the parking lot, noticed a small porch toward the back of the building on the second floor. Â
ATaphorn
I wish they would just give up. They won't be satisfied until they successfully ruin this entire half of the block.

hindesky
I asked one of the workers when this will open, he said they are on the last leg of the construction and should open soon. He said they are going to install a metal fence in the groove between the sidewalk and the parking area. Valet parking only and they have a remote lot around the corner they can use also. Â Any Korean readers know what the top part of the sign says?

boop
The sign above Bori is just the Korean spelling of Bori, which means barley in Korean (though I'm not sure if there's any further significance).
gene
honestly i thought it was some new name or play on words... wine 2 wheat wine 2 barley drink to wheat looks like a glass of wine, the number 2 then wheat or barley haha

hindesky
I think one of the hold ups is HFD fire marshal inspected the restaurant and required that they build an outside staircase from the second floor. I saw the marshal last time I went by this project.
ATaphorn
At this point I just want them to fix the sidewalk (I have lost all hope with the overall project completion). This thing has been a lingering eyesore since they acquired the property.

hindesky
I'm guessing they are building a French drain next to the wall on the east side, they added a new fence and a roof structure over the entrance.
