jfre81
Hey look people! It's not cloudy or rainy anymore! Man, I was getting really tired of shooting in the January dreariness. I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE RAIN IS GONE Oh, hum. Anyhow, let's get started, shall we? Here we are in the somewhat-world famous Texas Medical Center. And we thought Houston was all about oil. Now what becomes of this other elephant in the living room that is the economy of America's fourth-largest city with healthcare reform is anyone's guess, and you'll probably get a lot of different answers. But that's another discussion for another place. Moving on. OMG WEAR R TEH PPL?!?!?!?! They're at work. Isn't that good to hear during a recession? By the way, anyone hiring? Now even though this is a place for people to work, there are spots that are pretty good for relaxing a bit. I thought so, anyway. Moreover, I'm just kind of on the outside of TMC. I've got a few spots I'm hitting up today. Besides, we'd get bored all day looking at hospitals and people in scrubs, wouldn't we? Then again, saving lives is the stuff primetime dramas are made of. ER, Grey's anyone? ....and then like that, we see places where people live. Why, that no-zoning bug bit us again! It's our way of ensuring everyone's access to healthcare. Har. Take that, Minneapolis. Rice Stadium parking lot. They've got a little track set up for people to ride bikes. Which is good, because I had to dodge some joggers walking on the trail around the university and stadium. Rice Stadium. They played a Super Bowl here 36 years ago. The Miami Dolphins beat the Minnesota Vikings. If they processed your media credential request like they should, your pass will be in will call. If they did not, it'll be in won't call. Sorry, that's some cheesy-ass sportswriter humor. I figured I'd eventually get around to visiting Rice Village. That would be "Tex-A-Dee-Ya" There's parking on the rooftop. Let's go up here. Whoops! Access denied. I'm a pedestrian. Or am I? You know what, until further notice, I'm a car. So what car am I up here? Maybe an '82 Corvette? Probably more like a '78 Yugo. I should've come out here on a Saturday or something. So, uh, I'm not a car anymore. Good thing I'm not a car (or in one) because heading this way on this particular street would be illegal. And like that, I've left the city of Houston. Now how did I do that? This is West University Place, locally known simply as "West U" and is its own municipality. See these blue street signs? That's a West U thing. Look at that. We're being trendsetters for alternative energy. And you know what? This is the end of the line for today. Thanks for coming along. sevfiv
Not sure what is going on - maybe a photo limit per post? I will check. Here are the ones that didn't show inline: And like that, I've left the city of Houston. Now how did I do that? marmer
I thought Indian summer was the last big warm/nice weather period around Halloween, AFTER the first cold snap and before Thanksgiving. We tend to have a pretty significant one around here, most years. I would call what we're having now "early spring." Or, if it gets cold again later, maybe "Indian spring?" It is for places that have "normal" seasons when you'll get a frost in October. We roll a little differently here in HTX. Are larger images not resizing on their own as well? Might ask editor on this one. Thanks everyone...

jfre81
Wanted to ask did you take all these with your phone? No, but I might as well have. Everything I've posted on here is taken with a Nikon Coolpix L4 point-n-shoot. Turns four years old this year. Squeezing all I can out of this until I can afford to make the jump to DSLR.They'll probably be selling cameras like the one I've got at Kroger for $20 in a year or two. sevfiv
It's not the camera, it's the eye Fwiw, I usually like my camera phone pictures better than those from my DSLR because they're never planned (whereas the DSLR - or as I have name it "the big 'un" - needs its own bag and so on)..
