hysinger
1900 W. Gray St. and 2802 Timmons Lane The River Oaks Examiner has an article today announcing that after receiving several unsolicited offers, the River Oaks Post Office at the corner of West Gray and Dunlavy is being put up for sale. The article can be found at http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2009/01/...post_office.txt This probably won't make the people who live in the condo building next door (metropolis?) very happy. Some or all of them might be losing their view of downtown.

houston-development
its been on the market for a while now (6+ months, at least), along with several other post office sites. i seriously doubt a buyer could perform, with USPS' requirements, in todays market. a year or two ago, some buyer would have bent over backwards to get the deal done. $130 psf, condo-ed out a space for a post office, and still got financing. today, not so much. i would be absolutely shocked if anything happened in the foreseeable future. rsb320
I find this odd. This post office is not really that old. The one before this one is on Woodhead and houses Neartown Animal Clinic.

sevfiv
Yeah, I couldn't get HCAD to cooperate (and maybe the purchase dates aren't as hit or miss as the build dates...).
houston-development
Yeah, I couldn't get HCAD to cooperate (and maybe the purchase dates aren't as hit or miss as the build dates...).glad it wasnt just me. however, hcad is back working again.http://hcad.org/records/details.asp?tab=2&...t=0442220000145MCBRIDE RANDY DR 4/1/1999 D AND L INVESTMENT CO 1/2/1988 that means they sold woodhead before purchasing gray.i assume they sold woodhead and stayed with a lease, used sale proceeds to close gray, took x-months to build, and then moved in. rsb320
When did the postal service move the post office from 1314 Woodhead? Here's the 1976 listing: I don't know, but it was a long time ago. I used to use Neartown Animal Clinic, but I finally got my barking under control. There used to be another PO @ Waugh & Hyde Park. I think when Woodhead was closed, it was consolidated to Hyde Park and then the new one was built. They eventually closed the Hyde Park location also. native_Houstonian
Anyone have any more info on the sale of the post office? There are currently 8 units for sale in The Metropolis. Sounds like a high percentage....

Checkers
Several years later...I am wondering if there is an update on this topic. In other words; is there still talk of the West Gray Post Office being offered up for sale anytime soon?Does anyone know other places where information on this might be located? Thanks. rsb320
It's interesting that the prior post office building is now Neartown Animal Clinic, on Woodhead, behind Kroger. If sold, I wonder what the newer post office building would become.
