Because the USA's problem with poverty is bad enough that the church can't solve it alone...

Sounds like you've given up on what people can achieve together and would prefer the state to be our nanny. The Godless left wants it that way.

What have you done for the poor lately?

I was at Star last week.

And I am still waiting for Red to define "RESPECT".

Don't be such a throwback matchstick maker.

Are you seriously questioning the Afghan war? I'd figure a wannabe Wright coaster like yourself would understand that NATO action.

Um, yeah, I do question the Afghan War.

The main question has to do with why we lost our focus and turned our attentions to Iraq? Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9-11 nor Bin-Laden. This has been proven to anyone with a brain, which apparently rules out 55% of Texans. This is unfortunate.

We are now approaching 7 years later and Bin Laden is still on the loose. The situation in Afghanistan, according to most experts, is more ripe now to produce future terrorists than it was before we invaded. In fact, the entire Middle East is probably more unstable than it has ever been. That is saying something.

But I have a feeling you are a Don't Ask, Don't Tell kinda GUY.

Is this child the left-over one from your first marriage? Does she even know who you are?

Good parenting can prevent teen babies.

These two posts are totally uncalled for.

It has nothing to do with being insensitive either. You crossed a line. I am not sure if you thought you were being funny or what, but bringing someone's child into the thread lacks class. As a father, I'd expect you to know that.

I will also point out that references to Karl Marx and communism do not impress me any more than comparisons of George Bush to Mussolini and fascism impress the 26% who support him. Neither do references to socialism. The fact is, the United States is already mildly socialist, and has been for at least 70 years. Socialism neither offends nor scares me. My parents are current beneficiaries of socialist United States programs, such as Social Security and Medicare, and not only do I not mind paying taxes so that my World War II veteran dad can get medical care, I will fight against any politician who seeks to take it away from him.

Given that the United States already has socialist programs in place that I support, it would be hypocritical of me to cringe at the use of the term. I do not.

What's up with the paranoia over socialism? It seems that many people don't understand the fact that there are multiple levels of socialism. It's not binary. It's not like you have to chose between Marxism or complete anarchism.

It is possible to have a free market while providing some social services as well.

It is possible to improve the lives of the poor without destroying the rich.

"Socialism - HUAH! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!"

Just kidding, but I'm serious. Obama is not going to have brain surgeons and janitors making the same hourly rate, but after that brain surgeon gets done paying his taxes under an Obama/Hillary administration, his salary will be alot closer to that of said janitor's . At least thats the fear of us successful conservatives.

I'm all for helping those in need, but like Midtown Coog, it's the lazy I worry about. The more we expand these welfare programs, the more lazy we will encompass. Look how many abuse the system we, the working class, finance now. What are we going to do 100 years from now if we allow the bottom end of the working class to become lazy and stop working because government sponsored programs are good enough to replace their crappy job.

Sure you don't care now because you democrats love everyone whether they pay into the system, whether they speak english, or whether they are even legal residents of this nation - but your great grand children will be cursing your selfishness 100 years from now when they have to work twice as hard to bring home half as much.

Call me crazy but we all know that this will be the scenario if we don't stop expanding welfare programs and reform the ones we have now.

Thats why I can't vote Hillary or Obama.

My main reason for supporting Obama is his stances on the Iraq War and diplomacy. The US used to be well respected in the world, and much of it owed to our diplomatic skills. We used to "walk softly and carry a big stick". Now, we act like drunk rednecks in a roadside honkytonk. I can see why that approach might appeal to certain Texans, but there is also a reason that certain Texans are not in positions of power. I want an intelligent president for a change, and Obama strikes me as the most intelligent one left in the race.

We haven't been respected since the 1960's. What's Obama going to do to change that? There's nothing he can do. We drew a line in the sand with Vietnam and there's no turning back. Don't be fooled like these teenagers into thinking that we can talk our way of our issues. There's no "Emo" song that will magically solve this country's problems.

Because certain people cannot stay on topic and refrain from personal attacks, this thread is closed.

Not everyone who deserves a warning got one this time, so everyone should be on notice that I do not approve of the deteriorating level of discourse on HAIF these days, and certain members are going to have their posting privileges suspended if they keep it up.
