I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Cannady last Saturday at our gallery. He had come by to see Paul Hesters Fotofest exhibit. Paul was one of William's students many years ago, and has been photographing architectural projects in and around the state of Texas for many years. He contributed to Cite magazine and Texas Architect. He also has been one of the Menil's main photographers of artwork for ever. He taught at Rice for 18 years.

We talked about the new building bearing his name, and he was very pleased with how the building was sited. He said he was looking forward to being there and being able to walk down the mall to his good friends (Brockstein), coffee shop.

He also told me that one time he was sitting on the curb weeding his flower beds at his home on the corner of Bissonnet and Montrose and a guy walked by and exclaimed, Wow, who do you think lives here, And Bill said "I do", to which the guy replied," yeah, sure.!" He thought that very funny. He 's looking forward to the opening of Canady Hall. I invited him to join us on HAIF. He said he would check it out.

If you're interested the exhibit featuring Paul Hesters fifty years of photography, and Sarah Sudhoff's work will be up until May 18th. Andrew Durham Gallery, 1821 West Alabama. Come by we're open from 11-6 Wed. thru Sat.

Love to see some HAIFER's come by.

The Ivy League….you can list them in any order as long as you list Brown last.

Harris Gully Natural Area

Houston is known as "The Bayou City," and long before the Rice campus existed rainwater that fell in this area drained into the nearby bayou system through a series of natural gullies. The Harris Gully was once a prominent feature of the Rice campus, until construction of Rice Stadium necessitated the transformation of the open ditch into an enclosed, subterranean drainage culvert.  On the south eastside of the campus, Between Wiess College and the Wendel Ley Track, near Main Street, a portion of the original gully's path is still preserved, and as a project of Rice's Lynn Lowery Arboretum, has been reseeded with plantings of native grasses, wildflowers, trees and shrubs to create a replica of the natural systems of riparian woodlands that once existed on the banks many such gullies in the Houston area.

Rice's Harris Gully Natural Area also includes a walking path and disc golf course.

On May 9, officials with Rice University broke ground on a new building for the Jones Graduate School of Business, meant to support the school's growing student and faculty populations and nurture the next generation of global business leaders, per a May 10 news release.

Officials said the 112,000-square-foot building addition is set to be completed in 2026. To meet the demands of evolving modes of teaching and learning, as well as promote collaboration among students, faculty and visiting professionals, the release said the new building will feature:

Two 120-seat classrooms

Two 65-person classrooms

Office and open gathering spaces

Dining areas

Facilities for private events

Officials with the New York City-based design firm Architecture Research Office said they aim to combine innovative designs and interiors with the business school's historic layout—which includes the already existing 160,000-square-foot McNair Hall.

McNair Hall addition has started some minor work, temporary sidewalk forms along Brown Hall, I wonder if they are going to be concrete sidewalks or temporary crushed granite?

You know, I didn't like the initial renderings before but now that it's coming to life it actually looks really good. Before, the quad looked very bland and simple however, now with the added greenery it gives it more character. 5-10 years from now when these trees mature it'll look even better.
