  1. Selection of stores is really important as well as having walkability and public space like a square. Autry Park for now seems to be designed for residents to enjoy as it doesn't have a big public gathering place like Sugar Land Town Center, City Centre in Memorial, or La Centera in Katy. These places always have people walking around and enjoying the open squares almost all the time. Autry Park doesn't have the space for that so I wouldn't be surprised to see it empty most of the time. These days coffee shops are driving peoples attraction so hopefully they add one soon.
  2. Downtown Houston's newest skyscraper snags another tenant (msn.com) "Developer Skanska announced it finalized a 13-year lease contract with Houston-based law firm Hicks Johnson PLLC on 21,000 square feet of space.
  3. Some of these affordable housing units will have very expensive views of downtown
  4. Centennial Yards: Connecting Atlanta's Downtown Communities The best example of a mixed-use district, new mini city is the centennial yards in Atlanta being built around the Mrecedes-Benz stadium. I mentioned this before when I took a photo from a flight going above the NRG stadium. We have plenty of room to actually make this happen. During off season this will still attract many people.
  5. I'm pretty sure this has been open for over a year or two now. I remember going here last year a few times for lunch.
  6. Haif really has everything covered in Houston. I was at the MKT and saw this area and was wondering if haif had anything about this property and what do you know!
  7. I get that these firms profited off of the freeze but just like the financial markets, there will always be a winner and loser. You could see the winter freeze as the 08' financial crisis when the market flipped. Thousands lost jobs and people suffered, yet there were others who profited big time from this. Thats how the game of money works. It wasn't just Kinder that profited but also Vitol, Band of America, and Goldman Sachs. Yet I don't see any of these other firms invest into the city like Kinder is.
  8. Gentrification is happening all across Houston and will continue. Most of the wards have already started the process of being gentrified. This happens in almost all big cities and is honestly an important part to progress in my opinion. Most of these areas have a high crime rate, bad infrastructure, and other disadvantages. There's both good and bad in gentrification. I agree that it affects the low income in an unfair manner however, when living within the 4th biggest city in America these things need to happen. Just look at NYC and all the surrounding neighborhoods they had to gentrify to progress the city and introduce wealthier and educated people. If Brooklyn and Manhattan were kept the way they were years ago the young middle-class professionals would have had to find other places outside of the city to live. Within the west side of the 610 loop its mostly being filled and now the city is focusing on eado, third ward, and fifth ward to meet housing demands. And after the 610 loop is all filled, the city will need to expand beyond it as the population continues to grow which will cause gentrification. So, at the end of the day, it can't be avoided and in my opinion is better for the overall economy of the city.
  9. Thats 4 big hospital campuses just minutes away from each other along 59. You have Memorial Hermann, MD Anderson in the near future, Methodist, and St. Lukes
  10. Wasn't there a new rule that said parking garages need to covered if the headlights of vehicles interfere with the surrounding residential areas? I remember someone mentioned it on the X Houston subtopic.
