  1. How do they handle ticketing on their system? I like the idea of free downtown rides too, but wonder how it would be enforced with our ticketing system (which is pretty standard for light rail systems). Are all riders "home free", so to speak, while in the downtown zone?
  2. It's all right there in the linked website. Click on "About" Then "Maps" Then "Improved Parks"
  3. Wow, that was fast! I like that it is strikingly different from the Hilton, including the different orientation and greater height.
  4. An April 2012 article in Houston Business Journal included this: "Leasing activity has been so good on the 300,000-square-foot building, in which BBVA will occupy 175,000 square feet, that Redstone expects to construct another office building of similar size on the Post Oak development site."
  5. Is there really a meaningful difference between "on hold" and "seeking tenants"? In any event, something tells me the crack reporters at the Chron just now learned of this proposed project.

    IAH Vs. DFW

The word from the Director of Airports is that IAH is getting another new international carrier and destination next year. A major Asian carrier. Sounds like it's a done deal, but not yet public. My guess is Air China with flights to Beijing. (Or it could be Asiana, with flights to Seoul)
  7. You've added a bunch of new qualifiers. If we're leaving out projects that aren't very vertical and projects that are not completed, my Galleria area count drops to about 5 projects. (FWIW, I don't think I included any projets in either downtown or uptown that were not already under construction). I earlier left out the Mark and the Mercer condos in uptown. So that gives us 7 projects in Uptown (excluding uncompleted projects and projects that aren't very vertical). FWIW, the area of downtown we are discussing is approximately 200 acres (the area in the picture east of the then-existing tall buildings, plus Minutemaid and Toyota Center and the Pavilions). The Uptown District is officially 500 acres, but that area does not even include all of the listed projects or some acreage within the Galleria area.
  8. Should probably throw in Inn at the Ballpark too. It is not exactly fair or useful to compare one side of downtown with all of the Galleria area, but what the heck, I'll take a stab at it: Dominion Post Oak, 1200 Post Oak, Lofts on Post Oak, Uptown Park, Villa d'Este, Montebello, Centre at Post Oak, Blvd. Place, 2200 Post Oak Blvd, 3009 Post Oak Blvd., Whiteco Residential, WaterWall Place, 2525 McCue, Manhattan, the Mark, the Mercer, 16 projects and that taps out my memory. I'll add more as they are proposed by others. Meanwhile, to do an actual comparison of Downtown with Uptown, we would have to add at least the following to the downtown list: Hobby Center, Wortham Theater Center, Heritage Plaza, 1500 Louisiana, 1000 Main, 717 Texas, Post Rice Apartments, Houston Ballet Center for Dance, Bayou Place, Lofts at the Ballpark, BBVA Compass Stadium, BG Group Place, new Civil Courthouse, new criminal courthouse, new jury assembly plaza, City View Lofts, Bayou Lofts, Hotel Icon, Magnolia Hotel, Alden Hotel, Club Quarters Hotel, JW Marriott Hotel, Downtown Aquarium, Courtyard/Residence Inn/Humble Tower apartments, Commerce Towers condos, Keystone Lofts, Sabine Street Lofts. I think that's another 27 projects, leaving downtown with 37 projects.
  9. Cool. Two finalists are (1) Houston-based Rida Development Corp. and (2) Dallas-based TRT Holdings/Omni Hotel Man, I'd LOVE to see all of the proposals. Kinda funny that the top of Rida's website home page features an Omni Hotel they developed. Looks like either way, Omni is certainly a leading contender to be the flag on our new convention hotel.
  10. ... except for Houston Pavilions, Toyota Center, Hilton Americas, Embassy Suites, 5 Houston Center, Discovery Green, One Park Place, Hess Tower.
  11. I don't think a general store would need a TABC license. I suspect it's a bar/restaurant named The Heights General Store.
  12. Sweet! Thanks for the pics, Golyadkin. I wonder when we'll hear something from Apache about their tower.
  13. According to the history you posted, didn't it start witih two towers, then grow to three, then drop back to two, and now move up to 6?
  14. Very cool. Thanks for posting that info, Lockmat. The courthouse restoration is beautiful. They did a great job! I'll look forward to the show this Sunday.
  15. The two office tower clearly reflect Apache. Interesting that they show additional residential towers
  16. Our overall low housing prices are because of abundant supply, not a lack of demand. With more than 125,000 people moving to the metro area every year, there is no shortage of demand. IF the delta between our close-in housing and the far suburb housing is less than that delta, in, e.g., Chicago, there may be a case for what you are positing. Anyone have any idea about the relative premiums for close-in housing in various metropolitan areas?
  17. Huh? What are you trying to say?
  18. You should know better than to pay any attention to LTAWCS. I don't think there is any reason to believe the NBC/Comcast Studios will be canceled. In fact, I'm pretty sure the buildout of their space is proceeding right now.
  19. That was a bit misleading. There is currently one Nordstrom (at The Galleria) and 2 Nordstrom Rack stores.
  20. Great! Good find, Bachanon. I have never understood why it took them so long to get to Houston in the first place and why it has taken them so long to open a second full-line store.
