  1. YAY!!!! I actually have nothing of actual value to post here. I'm just happy to know that that McDonald's is finally getting replaced by a really nice tower. I was so upset when the Titan was cancelled. I haven't been following the Astoria at all for a while, so this was awesome to see. Although once it starts going up, I'll have yet another project I can post updates about just by taking a picture out of my window. *does happy dance*
  2. They've started tearing into the last underground section, and have made a lot of progress clearing the site. They've also set up fences in the area where the Whole Foods is going and have what looks like chain link fencing ready to put up. What you can't really see in this picture is there appears to be some fencing over at the corner of San Felipe and Skylark, and there was an excavator working over there earlier today, so that might be an indication that the condo tower is moving ahead.
  3. It's one of three buildings going on that site. In the middle of the three will be a large entrance plaza. The building will open onto that. It will engage Post Oak quite well once it's finished.
  4. They appear to be starting to dig where the underground parking for the Whole Foods is going to be, and are filling in the pit where the Pavilion underground parking was with the dirt from it.
  5. I really enjoyed it. It's nice to have a good neighborhood bar now.
  6. There never was a ring above that intersection. That's the new intersection they put in a few months ago for the parking lots.
  7. They've got a lot of cladding, and even some windows up now, and by my count have the floor they are working on now plus two more before topping out: And as I was down there taking these pictures, this group came at me down Post Oak: Turns out it was the Houston janitor strike. There were at least 1,000 of them escorted by at least 15 police cars. Seeing them all coming towards me while I was walking down Post Oak felt a lot like this:
  8. Apparently the old Art Institute building on Yorktown is going to be demolished to make way from some midrise apartments: http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2012/07/old-art-institute-building-to-be-razed-for-luxury-apartments/
  9. Not that I can tell. From my window, the 24 Hour Fitness building still looks completely intact and there's no sign of any equipment around it.
  10. Got back into town last night. Got quite a bit of a shock when I saw this across the street. I only have one picture for you guys today, but given how there hasn't been a photo of the site uploaded in a while, this one is rather big: Not only is the building completely gone, but you can also see that they've put up banners of the different stores on the upper levels of the one completed building on the site.
  11. That area that's being covered is the parking, but it will only be a small corner of the building covered like that. I say we wait until the rest of the cladding is up before passing judgement, guys.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised, given the layout of the property, if the Apache site was designed into the BLVD site, rather than just its own thing sitting in the middle of another development. Also, given that this site was sold to Apache, I'm assuming that the Astoria tower will now die?
  13. It's only that corner that will be like that. The rest of it looks like it's going to be glass:
  14. Nah. I wish I could set up something like that, though. lol My mom is in Houston for a few weeks, and she knows I was following the demolition so she took it upon herself to snap a picture and email it to me.
  15. Isn't part of the new Apache parcel the same place Randal Davis wants to put up the Astoria? Update: They are currently tearing up the parking lot between the area of the building they demolished and Post Oak. It looks like they are digging into the underground parking, which a while ago someone over at the Ed Wulfe offices said they needed to get rid of before they would be able to start working on the underground parking for Whole Foods. Unfortunately, I won't be able to have any more pictures for you guys for quite a while. I'm leaving the country for 5 weeks in a few hours. Hopefully when I get back in July they'll be done with this and something constructive can actually start to happen on the site.
  16. More pictures from today. Around 4:30 I saw a very large cloud of dust come up form the site. I imagine it was either the roof or a wall falling in. I was under the impression that the park that was made there was put in so that the remaining house or two on that street could be forced to sell through eminent domain. From what I heard, the guy in the last house was demanding something like $2 million for his tiny house.
  17. I just figured out why that less than stunning Hanover tower is listed as Sky Lark Ln. and Post Oak Ln. rather than San Felipe and Post Oak Ln: It's not going on the site that we thought. It's not going in the middle island thing created by Sky Lark Ln, San Felipe, and Post Oak Ln. It's going around the outside of the corner of Sky Lark. From Swamplot: You can tell it's also nicer than was initially shown, but on the second picture, the little park in the front left is the area that was originally set as the site for this tower: This is fantastic news, IMO. I was wondering what they were going to do with that little strip of land, and this I think fits it perfectly. Also, it keeps that center block open for future development.
  18. They made some serious progress today: They've also got a large pile of debris in the center atrium, and have taken out almost all of the windows:
  19. The thing that gets me about that is that they say "...located at the intersection of Sky Lark and Post Oak Lanes..." Why not say the intersection of Post Oak Lane and San Felipe? Nobody knows Sky Lark, and everyone knows San Felipe. But I take it that's the new design of the residential tower. Certainly not as nice as the original. :/
