  1. Okay, HISD spent 3 million dollars to revamp Key... But some parents still want HISD to bulldoze the old Key and build a new school... While Saavedra floated the idea of closing Key and using it as HISD offices: http://www.chron.com/disp/commnts.mpl/front/5767177.html I think all the Chron posters seeing the 3 million as HISD "waste" don't understand that in fact there are various political forces. What it boils down to is that the Kashmere Gardens/Houston Gardens area wants a "bigger slice of the pie" and I feel the Kashmere Gardens/Houston Gardens communities used distortion to try to gain from the district.
  2. The Mykawa School is now used as the Minnetex Civic Center. My question: Where is it? I have searched the internet and cannot find an address for the place. Does anyone know where it is?
  3. Also don't forget to check the houses in this, http://fmp.springbranchisd.com/address/address.htm - You can tell which houses are zoned to which schools.
  4. Maybe we could have "Durian Durian day" and dedicate it to the fruit (Durian has a distinctive odor and therefore is not allowed on Singapore subways)
  5. He was drunk while driving - http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5748031.html
  6. Hopefully you guys can get a deal like the one that saved O'Connell. IMO the archdiocese should try to get a South Belt/Clear Lake location.
  7. http://web.archive.org/web/20030524175058/...nfo/history.htm It opened on September 8, 1965.
  8. Do you think the outcome would be different if you had asked a staff member for permission to use the staff toilet? IMO that punishment is too harsh, considering that the toilet was a single room (and therefore there isn't as much sense) - I think a lunch detention would have been a better punishment.
  9. Those neighborhoods became questionable in the 1990s and 2000s - and now the questionable neighborhoods are moving north. See the schooldigger stats for free lunch.
  10. One would think the Starbucks toilets would be way better...
  11. This is in Houston ISD - The zoned schools are Wilson ES, Lanier MS, and Lamar HS. With that said, what will happen to the Tremont now? Will it change ownership? Will it get a more competent and less heavy-handed leadership?
  12. I have no idea - I think Warner Brothers doesn't mind this use of its characters as it is free publicity. I wonder if any fire stations have any other colorful mascots...
  13. I think the subdivision itself is fine, but the surroundings are slummish - This explains how the apartments on the SW side are slums: http://www.firehouse68.com/district.aspx
  14. In terms of "Spring, Texas" addresses in Spring ISD, the demographics of the schools are changing: High school * Spring: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...720/school.aspx Middle schools * Dueitt: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...602/school.aspx * Twin Creeks: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...044/school.aspx Elementary schools: * Anderson: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...601/school.aspx * Burchett: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...788/school.aspx * Hirsch: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...717/school.aspx * Jenkins: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...715/school.aspx * Salyers: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...662/school.aspx * Smith: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...330/school.aspx * Winship: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...713/school.aspx Look at the free/reduced lunch rates - Notice how they are climbing. As for the Klein ISD areas with "Spring, Texas" - they do not seem to have high numbers of free/lunch kids yet - some are changing slowly and some are stable: High schools: * Klein Collins: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...631/school.aspx * Klein Oak: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...759/school.aspx Middle schools: * Hildebrandt: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...901/school.aspx * Schindewolf: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...281/school.aspx Elementary schools: * Haude: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...900/school.aspx * Krienhop: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...771/school.aspx * Lemm: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...524/school.aspx * Metzler: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...773/school.aspx * Northampton: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...904/school.aspx * Roth: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...007/school.aspx As for the school in Conroe ISD with a Spring address: * A. D. Ford Elementary School: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...997/school.aspx
  15. Here is a population graph showing the changes to Westbury High School over the years: http://www.schooldigger.com/go/TX/schools/...609/school.aspx But in 2006-2007 the population dipped to 2,099 with African-American percentages going from 52% to 49% and Hispanic going from 38% to 42%: http://dept.houstonisd.org/profiles/Westbury_HS.pdf Also here is the school's boundary map http://dept.houstonisd.org/ab/schoolbounda.../WestburyHS.pdf
  16. If the Mt. Carmel kids living in Houston ISD (or those outside of HISD who want to pay tuition) want to go to a small school they could try some of the HISD magnet schools. Clear Creek ISD has an Early College High School in Houston for its students. Those living in Pasadena ISD have to small university preparatory options, though.
  17. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5734908.html It seems like Forest Brook HS cannot properly administer TAKS tests. Not a surprise, huh?

    Delta Airlines

How would CO get a hostile takeover? I would think CO would resist in the same manner that Alaska Airlines would resist hostile takeovers.
  19. AFAIK Palace Lanes in Southside Place is the only bowling alley inside the 610 Loop...
  20. This is in Houston ISD and is zoned to: * Lantrip ES * Jackson MS * Austin HS
  21. I'd also like to know exactly what happened with the idea of moving Mt. Carmel to the South Belt...
  22. The Spring ISD area is certainly adhering to TheNiche's predictions...
  23. Or lack of a city... it's in an unincorporated area.
  24. The Chronicle article expands on this: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5729344.html The other schools are associated with, but not operated by, the archdiocese; that's why I wondered how many students would transfer to the other schools. It turns out that the other schools all have higher tuitions and some do not accept 4th year (senior) students. If the majority of students will not stay in the Catholic school system, then where will they do? Other private schools? Comprehensive high schools? Charter schools? Magnet schools?
