  1. I've tried from my Blackjack II (Samsung SGH-i617) using IE and Opera Mini. Both work pretty well, but I almost prefer IE (! ) to Opera..
  2. Need more information for specific places to recommend like maximum price, definition of "decent," nearby amenities, etc...
  3. It's been a while so I may have forgotten, but has anyone seen/posted this? It's a detail of the block book map for the oval (the halves were on two sheets so I put them on one):
  4. I haven't personally noticed more than normal, but I do notice trends on the news (or news feeds, in my case). Not sure if that is just reporters picking and choosing/sensationalizing, or if they are real trends in crime. I guess taking a look at the HPD statistics in a few months would show something more definitive.
  5. ^True, there were quite a few cotton compresses/warehouses around the terminus of Harrisburg Blvd./Broadway and going north to the turning basin (looks like "Ship Channel Compress Co., Inc." was a big one). Iron/steel was pretty big, too.
  6. Landry lives (among other homeowners) in the 2900 block of Leeland...
  7. SW Houston encompasses a huge area depending on who's talking (from Bellaire to Sugar Land and everything in between for the less descriptive). Most places here you'll hear bad things about would be greater Fondren Southwest, Alief, and Westwood areas which take up a pretty big zone around Beltway 8 near US 59. 77099 seems statistically pretty diverse, but its center is around S. Kirkwood and Bissonnet, an area I'm not too familiar with. I'm sure if you provide a few more details such as price, square footage, and maximum drive time needs/wants, folks here will be able to help out..
  8. I saw a small blueprint of the building, and it had a small structure where the "house" would have been but it looked slightly different. The only label on it was "Dark Room."
  9. Interesting - helps explain some of the names/areas up there (Strack, Hufsmith, etc). It's also kinda of neat to look at some of the changes to the areas on the Harris County block book maps - like the Delesdernier land eventually became the Wimbledon Estates, Cypresswood, Northwood Farms, and Terranova/Oaks of Terranova neighborhoods..
  10. Yep - didn't put it on my calendar at work, and poof! We get a discount, too...bummer..
  11. Oops...looks like I missed out on this. Looking forward to hearing about it, though..
  12. Oh no, they're not moving for some time. Just trying to get ideas.
  13. ^After a brief discussion, this seems to be too far in/west and probably not going to meet the $ range. Thanks, though..
  14. Unfortunately, I think he was shot a few blocks from where he lives (new townhomes on Leeland). KTRK reports he was running to his neighbors' homes for help. Landry was apparently the victim of a random shooting. He was driving in the 3,000 block of Leeland at around 4am when two men rear-ended his car. When Landry got out to see what had happened, at least one of the two men shot him in the leg. Landry sustained a flesh would and ran to several of his neighbors' homes to try to get someone to help him. One of his neighbors who didn't want to be shown on camera said he had no idea it was Landry outside his door who needed help. He showed us the trail of blood Landry left behind. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=...article-6713932
  15. You're probably right. Just checked though, and I'm grateful - 84% of my premiums are paid by my employer as of right now (and geez...my quite average health insurance costs quite a lot)..
  16. Breakfast for every meal! And the occasional Smashburger (yes, it's from Denver and yes it's a chain, but there must be some sort of new MSG substance in it).
  17. Yes - and there's nothing about it on the St. Joseph's site. I thought maybe there used to be something...
  18. It is available for $60 here: http://thisisourhomeitisnotforsale.com/
  19. Just from a quick look at the Sanborn map (maybe from the 1940s? not quite sure) it looks like N. MacGregor Dr. (Outer Belt Dr., where the 579 is) did cut right through, but maybe dead-ended or went around the area near the Navy/ROTC building and continued to Cherokee St.: edit - 1949+ since Fondren is there..
  20. I think it stems from this line: "Though Guerilla Gay Bars are usually a surprise event in other cities, Houston organizers informed the bar owner in advance out of courtesy and were told they would be welcomed."
  21. Now that pages have been updated to look like profiles, maybe the discussion board feature was wiped out..
  22. ^I think you can get to it by coming in from Nance St. and walking under 59 - it's been a while since I've been there, but it's in that general area..
  23. Westridge? That area is still inner loop, though.
