  1. yeah...i thought about warrens. i like warren's, i was just looking for other ideas. never been in char bar, though. maybe tonight might be a good night to try it. Ha! actually we have been to el pueblito AND benjy's with this couple before but i never thought of el pueblito as a cocktail place but i do like their food. Never been to Zimms, but from what i have heard, that might be an option.
  2. we waited forever for our food on two different occasions. we had a distracted order taker once that didn't even acknowledge us for a full two minutes as we stood at the counter. several incidents of dirty tables and no one busing tables. there was probably something else that bugged me too. but i guess i should give it another try since it was a long time ago.
  3. How is the service there now? I stopped going to Cafe Artiste a couple of years ago after several incidents of really poor or non-existent service.
  4. I haven't been out a lot recently and I am usually a beer guy. We have friends coming into town this weekend that are more of a cocktail couple. Where would be a good place to go for cocktails tonight, in town, that would NOT be super trendy (i.e. ultra crowded) , a 30+ crowd, and the volume low enough that you can still have a conversation? Having a kitchen to do some noshing would be a plus but not a necessity. A place that doesn't frown on khaki shorts and sandals is also a plus Maybe i am asking for too much. How is Davenport in Shepherd Square, these days?

    Perpetual Pet

i feel sad for symba... The only thing is, my other 2 cats know its Snuffy, but they just can't understand why he doesn't move. Its really pretty funny. My girl cat "Symba" can't understand how Snuffy came back. She just keeps creeping up on him to see if he's going to swat her like he used too.
  6. This may have been the same problem i was having yesterday (but i am on Firefox so maybe it just didn't give me the same errors). It just seemed to stall out and i had to keep refreshing until it decided to work. Everything seems okay today. ps: editor...is it supposed to be "cholocaty"?

    Perpetual Pet

I accidently ran across this website and found it a little disturbing... http://www.perpetualpet.net/index.html "Freeze-dry pet preservation creates a lasting memorial and more importantly, preserves your pet in a natural state thereafter, without any alteration in appearance. This allows pet owners to see, touch and hold their pets, and in a sense, "never have to let go." Best of all, freeze-dry pet preservation results in the preservation of your pet's actual, physical body. This is in sharp contrast to the conventional method of taxidermy, in which only the outer hide of the animal typically remains, attached to a plastic form or other type of artificial mounting." and "The animal is carefully prepared and posed, supported by a custom made framework. It is then placed into a sealed vacuum chamber at extremely low temperature. Over time, frozen moisture is slowly converted into a gaseous state, and then extracted. The larger the subject, the greater the amount of moisture to be extracted. Typically, a small cat or dog will take 10 to 12 weeks. Larger pets will take a longer period of time, perhaps as much as 6 months in the case of a very large dog. However, all pets are unique, and sometimes take a bit more or less time than expected." Wow! This is just as I remember "Cisco"...always chillin' and listening to his Ipod.
  8. i dunno what it is today but my pc is having a hard time loading up HAIF. It is taking forever to download the ads..almost like it is hanging up. Sometimes i can refresh a couple times and i think it may change to a smaller ad or something and load it up. is it just me?
  9. Maybe he stole Ashikaga's identity and is using his library card and eating his canned corned beef from dollar general??!! Admit it north beaumont!! What have you done with Ashikaga??? Do we need to search under the old Winkler drive inn theater for evidence?
  10. even back then, they couldn't agree on spelling is it bellmeade or bellemeade???
  11. i don't think it's in manvel: found this at the city of pearland site - not that it provides any more details though... CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION
  12. and it may have something to do with Lowes being on Gulfgate (Wulfe) land while the Home Depot isn't considered part of "Gulfgate"
  13. that has to be the most "plain jane" mansion kitchen in existence. the house seems very ummm... maybe the word is utilitarian. the space is there but decor does not fit "mansion". the inside looks like a 1980's community center or something (from the har pictures anyway)
  14. i always looked forward to the new books with the artwork too. today's "official" yellow pages doesn't seem much better than the fifty offbrand phone books you get...esp. with all the ads. i read an article on the drawings a few years back. now if i could remember where it was in. also, seems like there was a website that had one of the drawings and you could zoom over it with a magnifyer to see all the details. anyone?
  15. that's HAIFs own brucesw's blog... see here (post 17) http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=7388#
  16. We used to to the Pasadena Pancho's often (when i was a kid). It was in the old Pasadena Mall at Spencer and Shaver. They had HUGE circular multi-colored booths and a conveyer belt for dirty dishes (like some Wyatts - but i may be confusing my memory). There were also some booths that had "windows" that opened onto a small "alley" (it was inside the mall - down the side of the restaurant). There was a barber shop down the alley that you could see from your seat. I remember that probably because I thought the electric barber pole was cool.
  17. i have always heard that US 80 was generally on the alignment of the old Dixie Overland Highway - at least east of Abilene. But - that said - there were several "trails" promoted by different highway associations and they sometimes overlapped. a cursory web search finds that the bankhead trail incorporated much of the western portion of the Dixie Overland - west of Van Horn. and as you can see in the posted map above - the OST incorporated a lot of it too. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/infrastructure/us80.htm
  18. Right now, I like the coffee at Empire - but I have to drink it outside. on a related note, i buy a lot of coffee beans and make my own. I have tried many different brands from different shops, freshly roasted, etc. For some reason I always come back to the beans at the Whole Foods on Bellaire. I can get the same variety of bean at the Alabama location, but they just aren't the same. I wonder if it's psychological , since I generally like the Bellaire Whole Foods location better?
  19. interesting...i glanced at a pre-I-10 map i have. The only thing specifically shown right there with an North or N. on the map is: NORTH ENTRANCE DR. (the entrance to memorial park) currently called E. Memorial Loop Drive. Maybe they abbreviated the word Entrance, so you didn't recognize it? Continuing on...just to see what streets were eliminated with construction: My map shows a street named Kirkley in the I-10 alignment right there. On the east side of the RR tracks it would have been Long and Kolb in the alignment. Looks also like there was also a short N-S street called Attar. It ran due north from Washington@Hamman (straight through the IHOP) to the RR (intersecting with Allen St. which ran parallel with the tracks past where it ends now at Stillman).
  20. The Washburn tunnel is county maintained - and as long as they can fund its maintenence, it will stay...same with the Lynchburg Ferry. The Baytown Tunnel was maintained by TxDOT. 146 is a major thoroughfare that needed to increase its capacity - especially since it is a hurricane evacuation route. Federal Rd and Richey are small arterial roads that do not carry near the capacity of Tx-146. Washburn's capacity will probably never increase significantly due to the close proximity of the Sidney Sherman Bridge on 610 and the toll bridge on the beltway.
  21. well he IS in the "new" part by fairmont and the belt his mansion is in the box made by vista, preston, fairmont pkwy, and the beltway. off of lily
