  1. I bought a 1BR condo for 95,000 10 years ago, at 2100 Tanglewilde, I was very pleased with it.... Their are some quality condos along Briar Forest just east of Gessner... You just need to do some more searching, their are thousand of affordable condos in nice areas....
  2. The crane on the east lot was going up this morning. Also the middle lot has a second base for a crane.
  3. The black plastic is gone from the Westheimer side of the fence. The hole a crew was working on, looks bigger then what is at the new DT park. Their were dozens of men working away.
  4. I used yahoo maps, and it is the irregular shape block bounded by McKinney, La Branch, WALKER, and Crawford. Thanks Red
  5. This weekend my team and I are playing in one of the largest amateur soccer tournaments in the state. If anyone is interested in watching some decent soccer and getting out to a park this weekend, their will plenty of games to watch at Bear Creek Park. Teams including some college squads will be coming from all over the state and few from out of state to participate. Here is the link to the website...I am very excited about this weekend... I
  6. East side of DT will/is becoming a cool neighborhood. With MMP, Toyota Center, Church expansions, new park, etc... It would be great to get more residential with street level retail... I'm sure more projects will be announced and break ground in this part of DT over the next couple of years. How do you estimate how many floors and/or heigth a building will be when the number of square feet is given?
  7. More good news for DT... I remember reading a few post from last year that mentioned, the new park would be a waste of money.
  8. Accidents happen and their will always be isolated incidents, exspecially if people are not aware and not being responsible. Saying that, How does someone not see a train and walk or drive in front of it? When I was kid my parents taught to look both ways before crossing...
  9. I keep on reading about this superior system in Dallas... If its so superior why does it have a horrible ridership, 60,000 daily riders for 45 miles. My brother lived and went to school in Dallas and met plenty of native dallasites( is that spelled right?) They don't even understand, why the system is getting exspanded, no one uses it... The first 7.5 mile line in Houston has 40,000 riders a day, runs through some of the most important areas, TMC, DT, schools, conventioneers from DT to Reliant. After the University line is built taking people from the main line through greenway plaza area to Uptown. The projected ridership for a 20 + mile line is close to 100,000. How is the Houston lines so horrible? Far as the wrecks, that is irresponsible drivers... Far as the homeless on the trains, that is less then 1% of the riders and homeless ride mass transportation for escape from the weather in every city in the U.S. I've been to Europe dozens of times and they don't have a problems with LRT at street grade... My family visit from England all the time and they have positve comments about our LRT. They just don't understand why their isn't more of it yet.
  10. I read somewhere that illegals add another 150,000 to the pop. of Houston and 300,000 to the metro area....They are not counted on the census report...
  11. Took a short walk to today down Dallas st. from Travis to the new park. The I went 1 block North and walk down Lamar back to Travis. A few observations.... - The base of the crane is in the ground for the lot farthest from Main ST. - The three lots for HP, the new park, and the tower hundreds of workers are at full speed bustin their *ss - The streets were full with people, from all walks of life. It was great atmosphere, people were eating, shopping, etc.. I don't understand why some people say the streets are dead DT. I realy like that the club scene is dying DT. Clubs do not bring in residents or business numbers. DT doesn't need a club scene it has one of the top theatre district, great restraunts, cool bars, sporting events etc... I truly beleive DT is starting to turn into a great neighborhood to live in. Further developments such as another residential project, offices and hotel buildings will happen over the next 12 months for DT, It is very exciting times for DT and all over the city...
  12. Another crane went up in the city yesterday. I believe thats close to the 30 for the city limits. Not to bad for a city that supposely nothing gets built... This crane is a block east of the beltway on the north side of Richmond - Does anyone have an idea of what is getting built?
  13. Those evil big companies!!! Creating 100's of thousands high paying jobs for college educated people.... Those high paying jobs supporting small buisness across this city.... Bad big companies, pumping billions of dollars into the economy...
  14. Projects in every city get cancelled or fall through. Plenty of projects have died in Dallas and Atlanta as well. I think we notice it more because we look for news about Houston every day. We only hear about ever other city a couple times a month when a project breaks ground or is announced. Plenty of those announce projects in other cities die, we just don't hear about it....
  15. Does Atlanta have more buildings under construction? If so, what are the numbers for both cities?
  16. Atlanta will not pass Houston, remember a few years ago it was Phoneix that was going to pass Houston. Houston countinues to have a consistent growth year after year. Atlanta has CNN, Coca-Cola, Home Depot etc... - that doesn't compare to the world's energy capital, NASA, medical center and research with its 100,000+ high paying employees etc.... In terms of metro population over the next couple decades it will end up like this and more likely stay like this over our life-time- 1. L.A. 2. NY 3. Chicago 4. DFW 5. Houston - Why are you so negative and rude about everything? Do you need to get laid or something? Just worry about your city and its problems.
  17. I've done a lot of work in Royal Oaks. The country club is in the middle of all the homes. It is beautiful, real upper-end. The homes are pack in their with little yards and side by side. I don't understand the location, the developers could have done a better job. I wonder what the people that live in the trailers and the small run-down homes in old Alief think of seeing that big brick wall and huge roof tops behind it, every morning?
  18. "Houston Pavilions- Ground breaking, yet? Mosaic- 1st tower UC, 2nd tower status? Medical Center- another hospital or office building UC? (not the latest one with the glowing crown) Park Tower- DT Ground breaking, yet? UT- Turnberry project as well as The Cosmopolitan- Groundbreaking, yet? Inside the Loop- 2727 Kirby UC Around Memorial City - new tower UC? Former T&C- any groundbreaking for new development? Energy corridor- UC- a few low rises" Their is at least 7 cranes in the TMC 2 cranes for the tower in Memorial City Half a billion dollar development where T+C use to be is UC 3 cranes in the energy corridor At least 4 cranes in UT (One for the cosmopolitan) 1 crane for the Chinese bank building on Bellaire Park Tower, HP, new park, new fire station, other smaller projects UC in DT Approx 2 dozen 3-5 stories structures for condos going up from the east side to midtown to uptown out to westchase Mosiac well UC Crane for 2727 Kirby is up and a crane for a midrise is up down Kirby from 2727 Kirby Hundreds of townhomes are UC inside the loop That is all I can think of brain storming for a min... If someone had the time, a detailed list of projects with pictures would be great ...
  19. Gus Wortham will stay a golf course. I forget his name this morining, but the UofH alumni pro golfer and other alumni are gathering funds to completely redo the course. Instructors will be added as well as plenty of other upgrades. UofH wants this to be the cougars golf team home course. Also their has been more out-cry from the community then the AO crowd has about rail. This golf course has so much history and has a beautiful natural terain that runs along the bayou. It needs to have a facelift and a good reminder to the public of what a hidden jem the city has. This course was the top place in Texas to play for many decades. As far as the Dynamo new stadium, I truly beleive something will be work out with the city some where, some how. Their is open space around the city. I truly hope the stadium could be just east of MMP. I have always heard HISD will get involved to build a multi-use stadium just like FriscoISD did for the Dallas team.
