  1. I don't know how DART does it. It even has pathetic ridership numbers but they still get billions to expand their lines....
  2. Oliver Luck today said an announcement could be in the next month. He also said east of MMP and one or two other locations are in discussion with the city. He said he can not mention more than that..........
  3. Good points and I agree. Rules are Rules... I just feel bad for the guy because some lady with nothing else to do is going to bust his balls about a work van....
  4. The guy works hard to give his family nice home and schools... Leave him alone about his truck. Is his company truck in the street really causing a problem? I understand why families live in the burbs but when so many of those people have OCD and cause problems over a hard-working persons truck in the street or if the grass isn't between 1.5 and 2.5 inches tall that is a problem.
  5. I was told the same thing yesterday from someone who does some work with the Dynamo. I was told look for an announcement during the playoffs or in the off-season. The off-season is short for soccer, so an announcement will help keep team/fan excitement up untill next season.
  6. Cross Our Fingers -- Maybe they are starting the soil study....
  7. I have noticed survey crews, several different times along the new lines... Is this major purchase going to be a good suprise and/or be impressive... I guess I'm trying to ask, is it going to make pro-rail persons happy?
  8. All three blocks were busy today. Foot traffic along Dallas and Lamar was very busy. Also the blocks that they cross from HP west were full of people as well. There is a good vibe DT. It is very exciting.... More Good News With billions being invested into new construction DT, the investors must know how great DT is becoming and what it will be...........
  9. Another good fact showing that Houston is a great sports city... NFL Tailgating
  10. I was meaning Dallas. I didn't want to sart a my **** is bigger then yours conversation by saying what city. I've been to Dallas hundreds of times and DT Dallas is very limited. I'm sure your friend and others very conviently would like to include Uptown in with DT Dallas. Also from what I have heard Atlanta DT is very limited as well, unless you would want to include Buckhead/Uptown in with Atlanta's DT... When I said larger cities, I did not mean larger then Houston, I meant a large city in general.
  11. I think DT ends at 59, so no. As far as retail, I think it will work. Their is some, and even a department store that works DT. Their is more DT retail here then some other large city DT's that are close to us. To create a central area, like DT, for people to go shopping is going to be difficult, because their is plenty of other established options within a couple miles. Their is the village, River Oaks shopping center, highland village etc... Thies places not only have higher-end stuff but their is avrg. shopping there as well, for example the Gap... HP is the "kick in the butt" DT needs and I think DT will have its fair share of retail before we know it, but not as much as we would like because of the other popular areas that are close...
  12. Uptown is a little farther then a stone's throw away from Gulfton. In DT, the clubs are two or three blocks away........
  13. Yeah, the clubs DT don't have a thug element? Shooting. Individuals wonder why people stop going to the clubs DT and hang out at other areas. This is also why the city is trying to close the clubs down and only allow upscale bars and restraunts to open/ stay open DT. It will continue to make it into a quality livable neighborhood. Why would someone want to buy a $300,000+ condo a couple blocks from this nonsense that is full of thugs?
  14. Chris Canetti (Dynamo FO) at the Soccer 101 event a few nights back, said that the Dynamo are still negotiating with the city for the site near MMP. He said that they're hoping to make an announcement in a couple of months (date keeps on being pushed back/ look for news around Sept. 15th) and the Dynamo will play their first game in their new stadium in April 2010. I also heard a rumor that Drayton wants his parking garage built/started before the season ticket lots are torn up for the stadium.
  15. Biggest diffrence to me is that all of Houston's museums, universities, theatres, sports venues, top- end neighborhoods (West U, the Village, River Oaks etc...), best parks (Herman Park and Memorial Park), and the all the great things about the city are all inside the west-side of the loop. Great 50 sq. miles or so to live, play, work. To get to the Dallas areas best areas like the sport venues, museums, etc.. Ft. Worth and the whole metro needs to be included. I know both metro areas are very sprawled out but at least Houston's best qualities are in the core and not 50 miles from each other.
  16. I was being vey sarcastic. Every suburb from Sugarland to the Woodlands blames Houston and/or metro for increased crime. I figured its just Pearlands turn to blame their own crime and problems that they can't police or control on the Big Bad City.
  17. I blame Metro and the City of Houston for the crime in Pearland.
  18. This LR Toy Crap is ridden by 40,000 people a day to school, work and entertainment. If not for this train more busses and cars would be on the road. Before a city can have a "real Train" from outlying areas a strong infrastructure of "LR toy crap" needs to be placed around the core so when the individuals came in on "Real Trains" they can get to their point of destination. The main line is the first step and is a successful one. I don't understand how people in your neighborhood complain about a quiet clean LR running down Richmond when the road already is full of potholes and cars blowing exhaust and noice into your neighborhood. The LR will help this problem. What are you guys going to do when Richmond needs more lanes added and more noice and exhaust is blown throughout your neighborhood?
  19. I'm aware of this but the press and individuals against rail make the issue into a serious problem when it is not. TMC stusy reported that their is a leak but did not contain facts saying it the leak is minimal and has zero effect on infrastructure and health. Very convient for the individuals against rail and our "turn anything into a big serious story" local press into an issue.
  20. This is exciting news. I hope the other proposed building where the Shamrock Building was going to be gets built as well. DT alone could have a dozen cranes up next year...
  21. I know someone can explain this much better then I can. The leaking electricity is not an uncommon thing from every line around the nation. I heard on a talk-radio show that Houston is at 85 - something (can't remember) which is a good rating for amount of electricity being leaked. This has zero effect on infrastructure or health of animals/people. Other lines around the nation have a 50 -something on the amount of electricity being leaked which has a very minimal negative effect on infrastructure only, not health concerns. Metro is doing very good on this issue. This is just another thing the Chron. made into a big issue as well as individuals who are against rail or who just are very pesimistic about anything Houston... I hope someone could explain this better and give more details...
  22. From Shasta at SSP: in some REALLY good news, The HBJ reports today that the second tower of the Mosaic broke ground this week officially after funding was secured. The first tower has seen excellent sales (218 units have SOLD). Other tidbits from the article, The base structure that connects the 2 towers will contain a Yapa Prepared Food Store, Unity Bank, a Dry Cleaners, and a 4,000 square foot restaurant/bar. Tower II will contain a sushi bar, a day spa, and a postal store. Great to see well planned ground floor retail in that area!
  23. I don't understand why they have to demolish structures when their is empty parking lots two blocks away along Main. Is their a logical reason for this?
  24. The news and the public are reporting the SE route as LRT. I thought this new route and the other three will be BRT. Also, the other week there was a survey team on Post Oak between the West Loop and San Felipe. I asked them what they were doing and they mentioned they were surveying for the new LRT line. Are we getting LRT instead of BRT and it hasn't been announced yet?
