  1. I went for breakfast yesterday morning. Grits, cold in the middle, sausage just plain cold. Had to get up and ask for jelly and butter for toast that was already barely lukewarm. and no knives to be found. Buttered my then cold toast with a fork. Hopefully, they will pull it together. But they need to do it quick. The learning curve allowance period is almost over.
  2. The county clerk's office will definitely have them if any ever existed. YOu might also check with your council member. If all else fails, you can try to do minimum lotsize and minimum building line protections for your block.
  3. I have always loved the location and the feel of this place, but it has never ever lived up to its potential to be a neighborhood favorite. Hopefully, the new owners will bring some consistency to the food served. I would love a good greasy spoon, accent on "good."
  4. When Randall's was Randall's and not Safeway in a bad disguise, they were great. They introduced good customer service to the Houston market. Their stores were always clean and clutter free, employees always friendly and very helpful. The moment Safeway bought it, everything went down the tubes. Within a week I noticed little paper notes and such taped to the registers, the employees looked tired and stressed and I the brands all changed to the awful safeway brands.
  5. I don't get the fuss. Like someone said, it is already an ugly street. I'd thinkg that is just the place for a billboard.
  6. with acid stain it will come a character mark rather than a blemish.
  7. Auction unlikely, but Wilshire Village site on-the-block http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2009/11/01/west_university_examiner/news/wu_wilshire_auction.txt
  8. I went to Kroger on 11th last night. I love the new section. I had to cross back over to the old section and that was sad. I will withhold judgment for overall buildout until they have completed teh entire thing. But for now, I am certainly happy with what I see. No matter what they do, it is certainly a great improvement over what has been available.
  9. My house is listed in HCAD as having been built in 1920, but I was told it was probably actually built in 1910.
  10. iPhone has a Kindle app

  11. http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2009/10/22/west_university_examiner/news/wu_coming_going.txt "It turns out River Oaks area post offices at 1900 W. Gray St. and 2802 Timmons Lane will not be sold — at least, not any time soon."
  12. There is a requirement that he post his intentions to apply for a license for a certain number of days prior, of which I think he did half that number, if that many. It could be said, that had he fulfilled that requirement, a neighbor would have seen the notice and contacted the city to protest and therefore the license would not have passed. So no, he admittedly did not fulfill all the requirements.
  13. THey lost me in all those same ways, plus the pressure to tip the waiter in a cafeteria. If I am going to feel obligated to tip a waiter, I will sit at my table, have somebody "take my order and deliver it".
  14. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/politics/6672888.html According to this it does not lay the way for state taxing. In fact, it makes it possible for residences in commercial areas to be appraised as residences and not at "highest and best use" values.
  15. It's confusing. I can see how it can be read both ways. Would like clarification.
  16. From what I can tell, propositions 2 and 3 are paving the way for states taxes to be levied on residential properties.
  17. Oh, and it would probably be called HEB Heights Market. ANd most everything you guys brought up was brought up at the focus group. Let's hope.
  18. HEB did a big marketing survey yesterday with zips 77019, 77007, 77008, 77009. I didn't know who it was for, we actually thought it had to do with the rebuild of Kroger on 11th. I stated that HEB was missing an incredible opportunity to gain market share, that if they put a good store in the Heights they would own the Heights market. Again, when I said that, I thought the focus group was being done by Kroger. THey asked what they had to do that would guarantee our using their store in said location, and my answer was "open". After discussion of different HEBs in the state, she said that it would be closest in design to the Buffalo Speedway store. I gave her thehaif.com website and told her to check out this thread. So, tell Brenda what you want in that store.
  19. I participated this evening in a focus group for grocery stores in the Heights. At the end of the group, we were told it was for HEB with the possible location at Heights just north of the railroad tracks, across the street from the Art Car Museum. If they were to go there, it would be a store similar to the new one on Buffalo Speedway.
  20. Dr. lynda Case at Washington Heights Veterinary Clinic (over by the new Target), just did miraculous surgery on my foster dog that had a diaphragmatic hernia, her liver, intestines, and puppies were in her chest wall. They were fabulous from diagnosis all the way through. They worked with us on how best to do the surgery with a rescue organization budget.
  21. We drove from west Houston to eat at Matranga's. I saw Joe a few years back dishing out spaghetti at the Sacred Hearts Spaghetti lunch held every Thursday at the Sacred Hearts hall off of AIrline and I-45. Their spaghetti is almost as good as Joe's.

  23. Two helicopters hovering and I can hear sirens (multiples) Headed that direction. Anybody know what's up?
  24. I think it's a fabulous location and can't wait to try it.
