  1. Yes, Aurora's house was in two locations. One house for the front and one for the back.
  2. My first guess is gun running to Mexico. But that's just because it's headline news. I facebooked about it, and somebody asked, "so it wasn't you cooking speed in your garage?" It'll be interesting to see what it's about. I wondered if it isn't something city, state or countrywide going on. Every now and then they bust coyotes in the area, but that would involve ICE.
  3. HA! That wasn't very clear of me. My neighbor in trying to report that the occupants of the house have been problem neighbors was saying that they keep chickens, dogs (she implied vicious), and drugs. I don't think the chickens and the dogs were involved in the action this morning.
  4. My neighbor who reported it to me and lives in the next block of Aurora from where it occurred, called KHOU. THey told her they knew what was happening but could not tell her and advised her to stay in her house. Another neighbor, same block and street contacted an FBI friend of hers, he told her he did not know what it was about but heard alot of radio traffic regarding taking several individuals to the federal detention center. As soon as I know more, I will report.
  5. www.houston.Craigslist.org www.theGreensheet.com www.houstonpress.com I am sure there are others, but these come to mind rather quickly. HAR does have rentals as well, but probably not as many.
  6. ATF, FBI and SWAT are all at house in the 900 block of Aurora since early this morning. No news yet on what brought them there. A neighbor tells me that the occupants of the house have been problematic for a long time. She reports drugs, dogs, chickens and fights. Perhaps these kinds of law enforcement efforts will help eradicate the Halbert Park and other gang/drug dealer problems. I will report more as I know it.
  7. Yep, I think this entire thread proves that you want to rent for awhile before deciding where to live. We are many, we are different, we are humbly (on occasion) opinionated, but in the end, we are worth it. Good luck to you!
  8. I am in full agreement with RedScare. For me, I don't want a lot of square footage, but I may like to have more acreage. For me, conservative/liberal leanings makes a difference. I don't want to live near where the majority of my neighbors that I am interacting with regularly (or hope to) are not rabidely conservative (in my case). And if I was a conservative, I would think I wouldn't want my home, my sanctuary to be filled with rabid liberals. I love the moderates for neighbors. Those are people who might have strong or mild political beliefs, but respect the manner of not discussing politics or religion in mixed (politically/spiritually) company and instead seek to find the similarities in people rather than differences. In the loop, you are going to find more liberals, some moderates and a few conservatives. In the suburbs you can reverse that order. That's all. I am not saying all are not lovable. Just more lovable to some than others.
  9. Another point, I am not asking your leanings, just offering my perspective. If you lean towards the conservative you will love the suburbs of Houston. If you lean moderate or even more so towards being liberal, you will really like living inside the loop.
  10. I quit smoking 15 years ago on April 19. Hardest and best thing I ever did! Hang in there, it really does get easier.
  11. Houston is a very spread out city with lots of different neighborhood personalities. I suggest to anybody coming here that is not familiar with the area to take at least 3-6 months to decide where to live. Lease for awhile until you know where you want to be. Particularly if you are coming from the east coast. Our suburbs tend to be very self contained, one dimensional while the innercity neighborhoods hold a lot of diversity in people and architecture. It is a matter of personal taste which you would be more comfortable in.
  12. I remember skating there and the big big fan. I used to be afraid someone would reverse it and we would all get sucked in.
  13. yep, you're right. I don't get outside the loop that much.
  14. We had a Ritz Carlton. It is now the St. Regis.
  15. There's a beachhouse in Galveston with a similar shape. It lost its staircase years ago and it has never been replaced. It has to be a Cohen property. This whole family is seeming quite "touched." Is this the only shape he ever built? Definitely a signature. Jay Cohen must be Bob Cohen's son. Too much coincidence.
  16. I signed the petition to get curbs on my block and now I regret it. My ditches are a known quantity. I know that the street will flood and my house will not. With underground drainage, I don't know that.
  17. My ditches didn't completely empty until yesterday afternoon. I bought my bungalow in March 2002. The first thing I asked was, "Did the house or garage flood during Alison?" When the answer was no, I signed on the dotted line.
  18. I wouldn't recommend the confrontation. Smokers can get pretty frisky about their butts. (OMG, it sounded like I was making a pun, and I wasn't...HA!)
  19. I think the Woodlands is pretty well set to stay, probably even more than most. There are things going bankrupt all over and even less so in Houston. The Woodlands was built with a slant towards saving all the trees. So malls and gas stations and any other retail is pretty much hidden behind trees from the road which keeps the area looking very pretty. It is very clean and well maintained. I am an inside the loop girl and would never ever move in the burbs, but if I were to consider one, it would be the Woodlands. Bush Intercontinental Airport is off of I-45 north or 59 north. Spring and Kingwood are off of 59. The Woodlands is off of 45. Good luck to you! Where are you coming from?
  20. When it comes to family, business isn't what business is about. It just gets ugly.
  21. From my experience, Canada takes their landscape very seriously and wouldn't even consider allowing litter to become anybody's habit.
  22. Rumor has it David Cohen's sister owns Fiesta property and that they hated each other. Post earlier in this thread supposes that is why David Cohen would not allow upkeep of the exterior of his building, to bring her property values down. Inheritances bring out the worst in siblings.
