  1. That top picture is incredible. I love how clear everything is after a storm. Are there any updates on the residential tower that was possibly going in next to this on the same block? This building looks great except for the side that would be facing the tower, which is incredibly boring.
  2. I drove by the other day, and saw that they've started putting up some actual buildings. There's a large one that's pretty far along with its wooden structure on the side nearest to the Seawall which I imagine might be for the Chart House and possibly another restaurant. There are also two much smaller buildings a bit further away from shore. I guess we'll find out Monday what those are.
  3. They've also started putting up the aluminum skin around the stadium. There's a cool video here talking about how it's done, as well as some updated pictures on their Facebook page. It's coming along very nicely, can't wait until it opens. http://www.houstondynamo.com/news/2011/12/construction-crew-begins-installation-stadium-exterior-skin
  4. The name is going to be BBVA Compass Stadium... http://www.chron.com...amo-2401086.php
  5. It's about time! We could use a Pappasito's/Pappadeux as well.
  6. Nancy has an article about this today. Not much new information here, except for maybe the rents (average $1735/month). http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/11/luxury-midrise-planned-near-tanglewood/
  7. Damn, looks like I jumped the gun... they decided not to build the full facility we were hoping for. http://www.chron.com/business/article/Aviation-school-decides-against-full-Houston-2238085.php
  8. We got it! http://www.fly2houston.com/0/3918858/0/83280D83283/
  9. I know it will probably never happen and even if it does it is lightyears away, but does anyone have any idea of roughly how much a ticket from Houston-Dallas (or Austin, San Antonio, whatever) would cost? I've been on a few trains in Europe but never really in the US and wasn't sure how cost effective it is compared to driving/flying.
  10. The menu looks pretty tasty, a bit more gourmet than I was expecting. As for the construction, parking is going to be a challenge. You used to be able to park literally right in front of this place/Flying Saucer on Capitol but now the nearest parking is at least 3 or 4 blocks away. It seems like every street downtown is under construction.
  11. Damn. I could see them coming back with a second flight when they get more aircraft, but hopefully in the meantime Continental/United starts a Dubai route, or Qatar adds a second daily flight, or Etihad begins service to Abu Dhabi.
  12. Well that sure is some exciting news. I'm not too familiar with the Wyndham brand, based on a quick search it sounds like it's approximately on par with a Marriott, is that about right?
  13. The article is confusingly worded, it says "domestic and noncommercial international flights" which sounds like the domestic flights could be commercial, but the international flights would be private/charter.
  14. Can we move this to Going Up now? It'll be easier for everyone to see the photo updates that some of you so graciously post. Also I'm really happy to see this coming along, I can't wait to go to some games here next season. Hopefully the Dynamo can get a designated player and actually be good again.
  15. How do people feel about Fuzzy's? It's my personal favorite, although I've only had the one in Katy so I'm not sure how that compares with the other locations. I would imagine they are pretty similar though.
  16. Looks like the ill-fated Airport Express is coming to an end after all... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7669918.html
  17. I have been wondering the same thing for quite awhile. My friend claims it's going to be a mosque, but I really don't think so. I drive by it often, but I have yet to see any signs saying what it's going to be, only the construction company signs. They are building a fence around it, for what it's worth.
  18. Opens July 5... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7619307.html

    United Airlines

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/7576652.html That's a pretty massive upgrade. I wonder how many new gates will be added?
  20. I don't think the traffic is quite as bad on the east side where this is supposed to go. But if it's built that whole Fry/99 intersection is going to become pretty awful. Personally I think this might be better as the main anchor in Phase II of La Centerra. Although I guess you wouldn't have direct freeway access from that location, so it might cause even worse traffic issues.
  21. Here's a Chronicle link confirming... http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/05/montrose-whole-foods-to-open-next-month-expansion-rumored/
  22. Right next to the enormous new HEB? That would be interesting. I guess it has to be the SE corner, since all the others are full.
  23. I thought I remembered a thread on Texas high-speed rail but I couldn't find it so I just made a new one. Feel free to place this into the proper place if there's already an existing thread. http://www.chron.com...an/7557609.html
  24. I believe that's what it was called when it was a similar entertainment-style concept back in the 1940's and 50's, so they just kept the name. It is a little strange though, but who really cares what the name is? They're almost done demolishing the Flagship Hotel, it's only the last floor left now. Hopefully the construction happens quickly.
  25. Great, an article that describes their PERFECTLY LEGAL business model, and only barely mentions EarthQuest as another one of their projects. They are selling water, there's nothing illegal about that. Obviously Evolv doesn't really cure cancer or anything like that, but it's not like any of those countless diet supplements and male enhancement pills that they advertise on TV work either. But if people are stupid enough to believe that they can be healthy through some lazy, easy way like taking pills or drinking water, then someone is going to make money on that. The only thing that makes me mad about their business plan is that I didn't think of it first. The fact of the matter is that they are building a pretty awesome looking theme park/development in Houston, and it will bring lots of jobs and money to the economy, especially during construction. If they don't plan on building it at all and are somehow looking to take investor money and run with it, then yes, that's a problem, but there's nothing that suggests that that is going to happen, nor would they be able to get away with it.
