Rendering for this page:
Imagine this with the Astoria and on top of that, all of the BLVD place towers. Very busy neighborhood now and for the next few years.

What's up with the funky water color?
It's a glacial lake, hence the very light coloring.
I ended up at the Galleria this weekend and saw this up close. It will be much nicer when they have the building up to shield off the parking garage. I was wondering why they had so much CMU exposed but then I see on here that you won't be seeing it anyway.

MAJOR upgarde. That is a pretty slick looking stadium there. I really like the arbor things they are showing on the corners of the building. That would be pretty unique. Can't really see any luxury box seating in the renderings but it would appear they might be on the left hand/closer side of the stadium in both of the new renderings.

Here's one my firm rendered last year it's the second one down on the left, I can't attach pictures for some reason.
Awesome work! What software do you use for your renderings? I mainly work in Sketchup and then use another program like Podium for the rendering. However, I work for a landscape architecture firm so we don't have too much in terms of architecture but I do get some in! Those are the fun days.

I posted in it on another thread. Light rail's coming along, it seems, and 290 is in the preliminary stages of expanding (bye bye Taco Bell)
Do I get bonus points for calling it first?
I like the fact that the new stadium is in there. That area would look great with some mid rises...just my opinion though.

A little late to the party, but I saw that as of today inner city Houston has been updated. You can now see BBVA Stadium and I also noticed that you can see construction on the whole foods for BLVD Place. It's only in standard aerial though, not 45 degree.
Edit: It looks like the update is pretty widespread as the Exxon campus is shown further along but certain areas are still behind (like where my office is in Cinco Ranch).

I know that will make a lot of people out this way happy. Was budgeting the reason why they didn't incorporate this when they did the big interchange overhaul a few years ago?
-
How about weaving a lacework of lanes through the blocks? The downtown grid is so long to a side that - even if you do have more than a single entrance - most of the street face is inert.
Are you talking about vehicular lanes? I definitely wanted to incorporate a strong connecting element but I was thinking it would be more tailored to pedestrians.
-
Ha, that would definitely be unique!

This building was basically going to be a mirror image of the one next door, right? I thought that's what I saw in the rendering, however, looks like there are some more columns going up on top which would make it taller than the Mays Business School building.

Alright, I have settled on a study area. I'm attaching an image which shows the 10 lots I have chosen to work with. I chose them mainly due to the fact that they are primarily surface lots. This also could act as a connector from the part of downtown that has some of the current highrise residential buildings (savoy, houston house and future skyhouse....) with discovery green and the convention center. I think the east side of downtown has a lot of potential for residential growth.

Fellow HAIFers,
I have always wanted to set some time aside and design a building or city block...hell even an entire city scape of town just the way I would like to see things built but have always found a way to lose interest before ever fully committing to an idea. I've had the itch again lately and would like to get some other people (you guys) involved to help maybe steer things in a solid direction and also to have someone to bounce ideas off of. I think I would stay on task much better if I had a place to share ideas. Plus I'm working on building my portfolio and I would like to diversify my work.
With that said, I'm opening the floor to some of the things you guys would like to see. What I was planning on doing was something downtown, perhaps around BBVA Compass Stadium of a mixed use variety. Tower with retail as well as greenspace. This could easily eat up a few blocks so that's not out of the question. I had also wanted to maybe develop an entire streetscape project that helped better connect our existing downtown parks while adding in some new ones. These were just some things I'd like to see myself. What kind of things would you guys like?
Once I figure out what direction I want to go, I'll start coming up with some designs and then work on sketches/plans and 3d models/renderings. I think it would be fun to see everyone's ideas and then come up with something based on those ideas.
Hope to hear some cool things.
Regards,
Bryan

Very good news indeed! It's not prettiest or trendiest looking but it is far from offensive and the fact that there is ground level retail helps too. Should be a good fit for Gray.

Great photo update, thank you. They sure are making progress!
-
Interesting. It looks like this will go on the piece of land that currently sits vacant adjacent to the highway. The old Compaq campus sure has been carved up and recycled.
-
I think this building is looking much nicer than the rendering that accompanied it. However, I will hold off final judgement until all of the scaffolding is out of the way.
-
Yes, thank you sir. I always say I'll go out one weekend to do this myself yet here I sit relying on others. It will happen someday!

I'm excited to watch this one go up! Thanks for all the updates Lockmat!
-
Does this mean you've updated your website, Lockmat?
-
That's pretty interesting. Here's the site... (taken with my phone... it's 8am and I'm feeling lazy).
Looks like you just committed to being the "update guy" for this tower...thanks in advance for all the pictures

Man that's a clean construction site! I have total faith in this responsible developer (GID Development) and of all the projects going up in Houston over the next few years, this is the one I'm most excited about!! And that includes City Centre, BLVD Place, and the River Oaks District. The only project(s) that come close are what's going on in the "Convention District" downtown.
What makes this project more exciting to you than say a BLVD place or new convention center hotel?

I work in La Centerra and decided to take a couple pictures from my office today in case anyone was interested in seeing what exactly this is.
The building in the foreground is going to be a restaurant (not sure which one) and that has only recently started going up. The metal roof is blinding in the morning. The building obstructed on the right was the first to go up and they just started bricking up the walls within the last day or two. I'm also not sure what's going in there but it will be a few shops and maybe a restaurant with an outdoor patio.
The building that is obstructed to the left is going to house a majority of the new restaurants and shops (including beer world which sounds good to me already). The dirt area in front of that building is going to be an open space which will supposedly have an amphitheater. There is another building that you can't see here that is further to the left which is nearly complete from the outside and will house a few other stores.

Not all Schaub's fault today but he is just not getting it done. Good to above average when he can sit in the pocket all day but when there is anything resembling pressure all bets are off.
