  1. Interesting, I haven't seen any sign or anything posted about this property yet. However, they have started grading the area of infield between 290 and the feeder roads at the Barker Cypress intersection. There are signs up that say to expect delays through December 31st. Does anyone know what they are doing there? I'm hoping that it is an attempt to ease some of the congestion that area has but only listing one month leads me to think otherwise.

the article mentions they have done basically the same project in Atanta, so this rendering may not even be of Houston. The article doesn't say. I'm not sure if the first three to four floors in this rendering are enough for a parking garage, are they?

You are correct in assuming that rendering isn't for a Houston building. I saw on another website where I think Austin was having this group develop a building using this same rendering. Another poster in that thread said that the image used there (which is the same image here) was used for the Atlanta version of the tower. Either way, I would expect the building to look a lot like this one if that is who is developing it.

  3. It definitely wasn't a sell out but it was far from a disappointing crowd. I'd say there were probably around 16-17,000. Not too bad considering the Texans game was going on at the same time.

it doesnt look like it was even close to a sellout. I guess the stadium buzz is gone already?

  4. I went to the playoff game yesterday and thought I would share some pictures from the game. I ran into a guy who was leaving at halftime so he gave me tickets to his seats on the fourth row for the second half, that's why there are two separate locations for the pictures. (Pictures were taken from my phone)

  5. A squad of Yankee soldiers running around Texas in 1862 without major notice being taken seems very unlikely to me, so I did some quick google searching and came up with the following.

In 1862 Fitz Henry Warren was assigned to Missouri.

In Missouri, there is a town of Houston in Texas county.

About 100 miles from Houston, Texas county, Missouri, is an area called Bear Creek, Missouri, at least on current day Google Earth.

To me, that seems a more likely area for this skirmish than to think they managed to move from Missouri to Bear Creek here in Houston, TX.

Impressive work. The Civil War is very fascinating to me as it sounds like it is to a lot of people here. It is hard to imagine having any kind of actual battle in this area. I think I tend to agree with Filioscotia in thinking there may have been a little skirmish that grew in size over the years. Either way, something I didn't know before!

  6. Would love to be able to fly on one of those in the near future. I have no knowledge on the roll out schedule, but I'm assuming it will be a while before the next class of airplanes become the norm (at least here in the states). I can't complain too much though considering I've never been on a plane with a tv of any kind. I haven't even seen the nicest of what's out there as it is!

  7. I don't experience any issues outside of a slow load time here and there. Nothing for me to complain about so I am indifferent at this point if you're trying to judge public opinion...

  8. Rida-proposedhotel-092512.JPG

    It's exquisite.

One positive to draw on from the orientation of this hotel is that it would allow another tower behind the hotel to also have views of Discovery Green. Another tower behind this hotel could also lend to an 'encircling' effect - which I agree would be a good thing.

Agreed. Most of the people staying here would miss out on the views to DG but you would still get the downtown views and the other side would look out towards BBVA Stadium...nothing spectacular but it's a start. Hopefully the area around that stadium will start seeing more new development too.

Is that tower between this hotel and Hess/Discovery Tower just there for kicks or am I missing something?

  9. The site design has always called for three towers, originally I believe one office, one hotel, and one residential, although I think they switched the residential to second office if I remember correctly.

Here's an old rendering of what the site was supposed to look like circa 2009:

    perennial-rendering.jpg

You can tell that the building on the left is the one that's going up (http://swamplot.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/bbva-compass-bldg.jpg), albeit with a moderate redesign.

I don't believe I've seen any current renders for the whole site yet, though, but the plan should still be to have two additional towers on the site: one on the corner of Guilford and Post Oak, and one towards the back of the site.

I had never seen that rendering before. Thanks for posting that Golyadkin. Having those two other towers on the site would really improve the aesthetics. Has there been any news regarding them since this building started construction?
