  1. I was searching for a forum for postings on 3 rd Ward — guess it’s still in works? Anyway I was wondering if there was any information on new construction at NW corner of Rosewood at Emancipation?
  2. Hi

  3. THere were lots of oldtymers there and many stories of popcorn machines, pool tables and insight family events. As a side note— I am glad the house is being saved, if the house was built in 1907, the same year Avondale was platted, it would make it one of the oldest structures within Avondale. It is a shame that historic properties can’t be added to adjoining historic districts, Historic Avondale East boundary stops at Baldwin street. I’m not sure but being inside an Historic district and renovating the property used to 8nclude tax benefits.
  4. Went to the celebration ceremony of old LULAC clubhouse at Bagby and Anita. American Express donated a little over 100k 5o kickstart the renovations. I love it when little bits of Houston History are saved.
  5. As far as the price difference for customers.......the luncheon menu is good till 5 pm- so if patrons go early and order from that and 30% taken off bill.....maybe the cash outlay might be close to the same. Will patrons go that route. No idea.
  6. Big article in today’s Chronicle.
  7. A sign on the door states reduction goes to 30% off at end of this month. Not sure reason- maybe food prices went way up- or maybe participation went way down and wasn’t worth it anymore?
  8. The little pink house on Grant street across from old El Felix has been torn down and cleared away. I was always told it was built for Felix Tijernia Mother some time in late 40's?
  9. From what I heard- the developer asked that the Montrose TIRZ lines be redrawn to include this development.
  10. Heard from member of MOntrose TIRZ at Near town-- after report we got this info-- Scenic Houston has posted an alert about a TXDOt plan to raise the maximum height of Billboard to 85 feet. This will not affect the billboards in Houston but will affect those outside of cities that have Billboard regulations. ACTION ALERT: TELL TXDOT YOU OPPOSE 10-STORY BILLBOARDS Proposed new TxDOT rules could double the height of billboards along Texas roadways, from 42 ½ feet to 85 feet! Tell TxDOT commissioners that oversized billboards are unsightly and a driver distraction. Click on the link below to send a letter to TxDOT today. http://www.scenictexas.org/urgent-legislative-action-letter https://www.facebook.com/ScenicHouston/posts/1051739104929527
  11. Just wondering if there is an external glass elevator on any of the downtown buildings?
  12. Is there a building downtown that has a glass elevator attached to an outside wall?
  13. Hmmmm guess I should have waited- A ND post says Hardware store not going anywhere..... guess I'm jittery since the flea market thingy. :/
  14. Moderator edit: User trymahjong created new thread entitled "Yucatán Taco closed? Is that a weirdly bad luck location?" It seems hard for restaurants to be successful at that Montrose location.
  15. Reading this made me think how much I miss the pipe organ pizza in memorial city...... what happened to that pipe organ after that place closed. another memory sparked a small restaurant La Grenouille Verte out in Memorial are, where we'd go to celebrate an anniversary. but also the number of people who just stood at each intersection downtown, the light would change and no one moved just stood there. Oh and the number of mounted patrol downtown.
  16. I read a post about this on my nextdoor site------is it true?
  17. Wow I hope I can be the voice of caution---- friendliness of neighbors might not be enough for a successful transition if the school your kids attend is a zero. Maybe a little research on quality schools, then do the pros and cons of each neighborhood.
  18. The discussion continues- Read the editorials in today's chronicle https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwjF-brBjdnUAhWDZCYKHQB4CMUQFggOMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.houstonchronicle.com%2Fopinion%2Feditorials%2Farticle%2FPlastic-bag-bans-11243618.php&usg=AFQjCNH8Hx6slbK7fDhs6ta6uE31G-E67Q
  19. Was this in one of those big houses that got torn down, where the Townhomes are now? Have any pictures?
  20. http://www.houstonpress.com/newsblog/2017/06/13/montrose-management-district-faces-not-one-but-two-lawsuits-from-business-owners wow maybe there was plenty of feedback
  21. Avondale is just at the beginning of trying to secure a wall for a mural painting
  22. I can hear the soapbox squeaking as I step up on it again but the whiff of sour grapes propels me to mention that the 11th hour is NOT the right time to whine about how unsuitable the results were from the lower Westheimer traffic study and the only way to fix it is the immediate intervention of the MMD ( and their valuable insight) :/---- really? Public input from ACTUAL residents isn't enough to give this study support?
  23. But maybe I should have asked about their proposed piece of public art to replace the M statue that was taken down 2 years ago... that Westheimer traffic study showed that small median at Bagby, Westheimer and Elgin as a Metro stop. Will those 2 things be possible on that small space?
