Congratulations Mayor-elect Parker... :-)

does anyone know how many de-icers IAH has? i heard only one.
half the Continental flights in and out of IAH were canceled today, supposedly the FAA required airlines to cancel since they knew IAH wouldn't be able to handle it (when my 7pm flight got canceled at 9am I called and asked and got that story from multiple agents)
Not sure. Before the snow started I heard the airports say they were prepared... dropped a friend off at Hobby this morning around 9am and his flight was canceled b/c they ran out of deicing stuff... he was able to get out of Intercontinental, though.

Last year, Houston tied a record for earliest snowfall - Dec 10th, I believe.
And Now This ??
And we haven't had a significant accumulation of snow two years in a row since the 20's
http://www.wxresearch.com/snowhou.htm
Al Gore will not be pleased....
If it snows on Friday which it's looking like it will it will be the earliest on record. And actually, this will be the first time it's EVER snowed two years in a row... the snow that fell in 1925 and 1926 was actually in the same winter.
-
Looks like we could see some snow in Houston on Friday... it's looking more and more likely... some areas could see some accumulation.

In daylight today.

Controversial prayer focuses on candidate
Hmmm... and Morales came in LAST place... I guess that means God punished him for allowing a hate-filled prayer to take place on election night.
Morales did say, "I didn't even know he was going to give a prayer. It kind of caught me off guard."
Riiiiight.

I live near this building... been enjoying watching it go up... definitely a tall one.

Between Coke Zero, Pepsi Max, and Diet Dr. Pepper there really is no more need for the old sodas.
I only drink diet soda, including Coke zero. Diet Mountain Dew is great... tastes like real mountain dew.

i now see the wisdom of designing One Park Place as a more stone that glass tower. Once the Hess Tower is completed its cladding will definately counter the surrounding buildings. i have changed my opinion and feel it was a good call to design OPP the way they did. Had it been more "glassy" i think asthetically, there would have been too much glass in that one area. i like the balance. Thoughts?
m.
I agree... a lot of glass, to me, says office tower... OPP reminds me of something you would see in one of the older Northeast cities like Philly or NYC.

Fox News is a joke, and I don't see anything wrong with White House communications director Dunn pointing that out.
Amen!

It's coming... will push through this evening... pushed through College Station a few hours ago... should be approaching the Huntsville / Conroe area now... can't wait!!

HOB was Black Crows last night. Did Pete's charge a cover?
There was no cover at Pete's.

Had a date last night.... after dinner I wanted to do something different so I took him to Lucky Strike Lanes... the wait was about 1 hour for a lane so we decided to pass though I will DEFINITELY be going back b/c the place looked great! As we walked out we noticed Pete's Piano Bar so we decided to go in... it wasn't that crowded (Wednesday night... 830pm) but we ended up having a blast! That place was so much fun!! The guys on the pianos really knew what they were doing and we laughed, we sang, we just had a blast!!
I can't wait to go back to Pete's and to take my friends and am looking forward to going to Lucky Strike Lanes!!
On a side note, House of Blues seemed packed.... huge crowd. The only downside to Houston Pavilions was the lack of everything else... lots of vacant places needing to be filled, but I guess that will happen w/ time. With what they have now I can't imagine this place not doing well in the end.

Texas Among Nation's Most Popular States
I know this isn't about just Houston, but still an interesting article. I was actually a bit surprised... I am not surprised Texas is popular, I just would have expected it to be a bit lower on the list... maybe between #5 and #10.
Most popular States...
#1 California
#2 Florida
#3 Hawaii
#4 Texas :-)
#5 Colorado (I would have thought CO would be a bit more popular than TX)

Forecasting 90s today and tomorrow. Won't see 80s until Tuesday or Wednesday apparently.
Yea, summer is back for a few days. Tomorrow will be hot again with relief on Tuesday... the rest of the week will be nice ... some days warm but not very hot. I am heading to Pennsylvania to visit family on Tuesday... it will be in the 30s and 40s at night with 50s and 60s during the day... that's going to feel weird!!

I looked in the windows last night and it's not all that huge. I know someone already mentioned that there arent' that many lanes. I think I saw 8 or so? Only 2 of them are long, the other 6 are short; not sure why. And they all have big screens over where the pins are, I guess for TV? There were bunches of HD TVs in the bar area playing a football game too. Looked like there were some business people in there late with their laptops still working too.
Looks like it'll worth a visit.
There are 14 lanes total.

Got a tour of Lucky Strike this afternoon and I will tell you that it is going to be a slam dunk at HP. Mark My Words...HP is about to be a huge success with that addition.
I so can't wait to go there!

How great has this cloudy weather been! Been loving the below normal temps. Looks like the 90s are back for this weekend, though.

What makes you think it was an employee?
Why did the police not want to take prints?
Currently I eat at their chains once a year (at most). Now I have a reason to never return. The food is not all that.
A friend I was with noticed 2 employees acting a bit weird as we were walking in... kind of checking us out... didn't think much of it until the break in happened. When he spoke to one of the employees after the break in (just asking him if he saw anything) he was acting VERY weird... almost scared... seemed very nervous... the other employee just happened to "leave" as we were walking in. There were other reasons, too, but since I don't have proof I don't want to accuse someone.
As for the cop... I think he was just being really lazy. He kept saying there was no point in taking prints since they probably wouldn't get much and that if I wanted prints taken it would take like 6 hours to get someone who is "qualified" to take prints... my friend I was with, who used to be a cop, basically told him we wanted prints taken now... what do you know we had someone taking prints in less than 30 minutes... not 6 hours.
Wow, sorry about your bad luck. I don't think any car is safe anywhere in Houston. Smash and grab can happen anywhere. But you'd think a busy place like that Chili's in broad daylight would at least deter thieves.
That's what I thought... guess I was wrong.

Were you parked on the Party City side? I just saw this thread now, but it we were there on Saturday, early evening. We parked over on that side and I saw glass on the ground in the parking lot and was thinking "hmm, must have been a break-in last night." Glad to report that our car survived the trip fine. We had a horribly slow waiter, though, and somehow stuff that we didn't even order ended up on our bill. Manager took care of it. It sounds like it was just a bad weekend to go to that Chili's!
Yup, I was parked on that side... cleaned up most of the glass guess some remained.

Things started to go to hell in this country when we gave women the vote.

A very strong cold front is forecast to push across the Houston area on Thursday. Temperatures will fall through the 30s on Thursday behind the front. Friday and Saturday will see lows in the teens and 20s and highs in the 30s... some areas may stay below freezing all day on Friday. Sunday morning could also be in the 20s with milder conditions by Sunday afternoon.
Don't forget about water pipes... exposed pipes could break!
