  1. Westheimer Road, or FM1093 as it is formally called, is approximately 16 miles in distance, as the crow flies. The street begins at Bagby downtown, and ends at State Highway 6, where it becomes simply FM1093. The first 5 miles, beginning at Bagby, heads west to I-610. This section of Westheimer is as old as the city itself. It is at most a 4 lane paved street with a turn lane in the center at certain points throughout. It is home to various famous & historical landmarks, schools, universities, churches & neighborhoods. From it's beginning at Bagby to about Shepherd you can find anything from tattoo shops & thrift stores to 4 star gourmet restaurants, all next to each other. Beyond Shepherd to I-610 is the beginning of River Oaks, Houston's most prestige neighborhood. Westheimer becomes more of a Rodeo Dr., if you will, with exclusive boutique shopping experiences from the Upper Kirby Shopping District & the Highland Village Shopping Center.

The best part of Westheimer! (in my opinion ^_^ )

  2. Htown: North Korea has money, it's just that Kim Jong-il chooses to spend it on his military and his extravagant luxuries.

Yea, I know... it's still crazy, though. They just remind me of some bratty little kid who screams and smashes things just for attention... you want to just go up and smack the kid in the face but then you would get in trouble and it's just not worth it... but man how much would you just like to slap the crap out of that kid!

  3. Thanks for the updated man, why is everything still quiet regarding the other lines?

From what I read the other two lines are just taking a bit longer because they are just a bit more complicated... particularly the University Line. Since the Uptown Line connects through the University Line, there's no point in starting that until they start the University Line.

  4. I'm holding you to it. You better not be wx'ing poetic.

I'm taking tomorrow off. If it does rain, I intend to bask in it. (Watch HPD active incident reports for a 314). biggrin.gif

Not sure if everyone will see rain... there is a good band of rain / storms slowly pushing in from the north right now. The clouds alone, however, will keep temperatures from reaching 100F like we have been seeing... should top out in the mid 90s this afternoon... give or take a few degrees.

  5. I haven't looked over things in too great a detail but one thing that kind of stands out is that it seems a bit "busy" and "cluttered". It's a little harder on the eyes  ... guess it just takes getting used to like anything else.

  6. Good News... today should be the last day of 100F+ weather for at least for a little bit... a frontal boundary is pushing in from the north... it should bring us increased clouds and rain chances beginning on Monday which will at least put our afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 90s where they belong as opposed to the upper 90s / low 100s. It's not a huge cool down but it's better than nothing... I mean it is still summer in Houston so it's going to be hot / humid. B)

  7. I think, with Kathy Whitmire, there was always speculation that she was gay. She supported the gay community and dressed like Dustin Hoffman in drag, as Tootsie (or Dustin dressed like her). There was also the close relationship she had with Clintine Cashion, who died of an asthma attack. What's wrong with a girl having a good GF?

  8. Wasn't Kathy Whitmire also a lesbian?

There is a lesbian running for Mayor... Annise Parker. She is currently leading in the polls. If she were to win she would become the first openly gay American to become Mayor of one of the 10 biggest cities in the Nation. Currently Portland, OR is the largest city with an openly gay mayor.

Will Houston Elect a Lesbian Mayor?

  9. The mini train in Hermann Park now picks people up near the Hermann park Metro Rail station and drops them off at the Zoo. Parking in the medical center or on the street somewhere for free and taking the Metro Rail in might work.

Most people aren't going to know that... if they take the light rail they are going to go to the "Houston Zoo" station since it says... "Houston Zoo"! <_< They need to add "Houston Zoo weekday / alternative" to the name of the Hermann Park light rail station. :P

  10. Wow, is all i can say! It is a MAJOR pain in the butt to get to it during the weekends! Not just traffic/construction but the lot fills up and they close it. In the past 4 years i have been turned away atleast 6 times. I know they say take the rail but everytime i do the lot is managable and open!

Here's something that bugged me. My family came to visit in the spring and they stayed Downtown on Main Street. We took the train to the zoo one weekday (mainly for my 2 year old niece) and got off at the "Houston Zoo" station and had to walk all the way around to the other side of the zoo to enter b/c the entrance closest to the train station is not open on weekdays. <_< When we left we walked through Hermann Park and caught the train on the Hermann Park / Rice U station to get back to Downtown... shorter walk.

  11. I'd argue that this building is actually pretty well built. Even after toppling over it looks pretty intact. Maybe they over-engineered the building and under-engineered the foundation.

I was thinking the same thing... it seems like the foundation gave way on one side or something and it just tipped over. Wow that is crazy! Imagine if it was full of people!

    The development, known as

  12. Ike pushed us over the top...no electricity, nothing open and nothing else to do...

Funny you said that... I was listening to the radio the other morning coming home from work and they were talking about how there has been a surge in births across Houston... 9 months after Ike.

Oo... just found one article about it...

    Ike Baby Boom

#1 when it comes to sex... definitely something to be proud of... go Houston!! :D

  13. 1. The economy will begin to rebound... Dow above 11000 by end of year

    2. President Obama will end the year with an approval rating above 60%

    3. Winter '08 / '09 (once it's over) will be remembered for being abnormally cold and snowy for much of the Nation

    4. Gas will be back above $2.00 a gallon but will remain below $3.00 a gallon throughout the year

    5. Gay marriage will become legal in at least one more U.S. state and at least one other foreign Nation

I am not doing bad so far... #4 is on track to be correct, #5 already came true big time, as for #1 the economy is rebounding just may not see Dow as high as I predicted... will see how things turn out at the end of the year.
