  1. Check out this clip on Mt. Houston. It was quite majestic! http://swamplot.com/categories/neighborhoods-west-mount-houston/
  2. Still don't know the reasoning behind the name. Mount Houston is a community in north central Harris County, Texas. It is east of U.S. Highway 59, near the Dyersdale oil field.[1] Mount Houston was established along the Houston, East and West Texas Railway. At that time it was 10 miles (16 km) away from Houston. A post office opened in 1910. In 1914 Mount Houston had 100 people. It featured several market gardeners. It included two churches, a sawmill, and a lumber company. The post office closed in 1918. By the 1980s Mount Houston did not significantly increase in size. Within 1 mile (1.6 km) of Mount Houston, three schools and three churches had been established.[1]
  3. I go with #1 also. I didn't even realize that they were adding another station and I ride it twice a day. It is currently kind of a hike from Preston to Main St Sqr. so this will add convenience.
  4. Here's an article with pictures. http://www.29-95.com/gallery/georgias-market-downtown I'll bet the opening date is a typo, as there are others in the article.
  5. Friday is January 27th, so it must be a typo. The apples certainly won't last that long.
  6. I thought it was a new Comcast sports network. I can't remember where I read about it yesterday.
  7. The news said that the flooded underpass on Travis was a dookie line backup.
  8. The produce and some of the coolers are stocked. Maybe they're going to open tomorrow.
  9. White Oak is a raging river where it dumps into Buffalo. Buffalo was actually going backwards, for a few blocks, earlier. The Travis entrance to the freeways is flooded and closed. The freeway exit to Milam is open, though.
  10. $7.00 and includes fries or rings. http://frankspizza.com/menu.html
  11. Frank's Pizza is good, but OMG have you tried their burger? It's one of the best burgers I've ever had, anywhere. It takes a good 15-20 minutes to prepare, so you might want to call ahead. I'm not crazy about the pizza oven cooked fries, though.
  12. I think we are still 20+ inches behind. Also, our lakes are not nearly overflowing.
  13. I'm not sure, since the BRB has been there 30+ years. But then again, it's a specialty bar.
  14. Okay then, back to the "actual" topic. By city ordinance, panhandlers are not allowed to ask more than once for anything. Believe it or not, they know this and abide by it.
  15. Isn't this supposed to be about Houston Pavilions??? That's why I clicked on it. Oh well.
  16. Yep, it's the Hogg Palace. There is a grass lawn on top, around the penthouse. I remember reading that the bottom floor was once a car dealership showroom.
  17. I wonder how a Barnaby's would do? I'd get fat for sure. On another note, there's some weird bird living in the Rice garage, across the street. I've been hearing it morning and evenings for weeks now. I can't tell by its squawk, but it sure is loud.
  18. They put up their sign yesterday and the shelves are nearly stocked. It looks really cool inside and the items they carry will be interesting to check out.
  19. Which leaked like crazy during last Monday's rain event (at least parts of it).
  20. "The Ranch" (a gay bar) moved here from Main St in the Med Ctr sometime in the '80's. It later went lesbian and was known as the largest gay bar in the state.
  21. I tried Frank's site to see if they had any building history like the Treebeards site has about their building - Nope. I was there a couple of months ago. We went straight upstairs to the balcony and ordered drinks, no food. Nice view. I wonder if Berryhill would be interested in moving in. They have better fish tacos anyway.
  22. Not sure why I don't have a reply option to post #2. 20thStDad, BB's is already two blocks away. Cabo had a water line break in the sidewalk last week, so I assumed they were closed because they had no water - guess not. On a positive note, Georgia's, on the other corner of that block is stocking their shelves. It looks like they'll open soon.
  23. The overpass has come to ground on the southeast end. Do we know why this portion on North Main is elevated anyway? Rather than start a new topic, what was going on with the Red Line this morning and why is it not being reported? One announcement said that there was a car (automobile) in the fountain at Main St Square and service would terminate there. We changed tracks at Greyhound and were instructed to board another train on the other platform at DT Transit Center. Then, the announcement on that platform was the polar opposite of what we'd been told whilst on the train. At any rate, I'll stop because I'm a tad bit worked up. Question: Is Jerome Gray behind such stories not getting out?
