  1. weeeeeeellllllllllllllll not quite. . . . . . .

do get a quick automated response from my 3-1-1 app that my complaint has been received and a "unique" number has been attached that I can "reference" if I have any questions. . . . . . .

lol....typical of this administration and is quite frankly unacceptable.

I have to admit that I have joined others in my neighborhood ( keeping a journal of all the crappy potholes we have reported with those unique reference numbers duly noted) we actually do follow  call 3-1-1 (all of us) and give those reference numbers and ask if any process has taken place. . . . . . . we're still unsure if this tactic works.

keeping a journal is not the answer, send your complaints (with your photos) directly to the mayor's office and your councilmember's staff so that they know they are NOT being addressed. after i did this, my complaints were addressed. also send to jessica.michan@houstontx.gov, who is on parker's staff.

311 is a complete waste of time if you are dealing with potholes.

  2. KHOU's broadcast asked for pictures of potholes to be sent to their website-- I am way ahead of that-- I've been using my trusty 3-1-1 app to take pictures and ask for repairs for potholes near my house for a month now-- I will begin to forward those pictures to KHOU-- who knows what might happen.

and has the city fixed your complaints after a month?
  3. Park and ride can certainly be used to feed into the rail lines, some 25-33% of rail riders got there from P&R. The rail provides the last stop for many suburban commuters.

What numbers are you using as a basis? "many suburban commuters" is a vague statement.

And lastly, the P&R system is currently setup to serve Greenway, Downtown, and the TMC; that is 3 out 4 employment centers alongside the proposed rail lines.

what proposed rail lines are going thru TMC and greenway?

The lines under the construction will be more for the working class and students, no doubt. You are also correct about the ridership. I would imagine that will be used to justify not building the other lines. All the while another decade will be wasted and we will add another million people in the metro.....

The majority of those coming to houston will not be served by any rail line since the suburbs are were larger increases are happening. luckily the harris and surrounding counties continue to work to improve the remainder of the transporation system.
  4. Let me clarify Whitney, if you build rail, then you need the appropriate amount of buses to support it. Main St Line was built without the appropriate support. In the Main St. Line case, we should have expanded park &ride, especially in the SW and southern portions because of the TMC; and we should have simultaneously improved the local bus system that serves the downtown and TMC corridors.

The entire basis for the original line was that METRO was eliminating parallel bus lines so that riders would be forced to ride the METRO and gain immediate ridership. Main st buses and those parallel were the most dense in the city of houston. METRO has shortened multiple perpendicular lines to also force customers to ride the rail on their last leg of their destination.

Park and ride is not designed to be a system of transfers but rather one ride to your final destination which encourages ridership.

With the north, east and southeast lines coming online in the future, we are talking a completely different beast. There are not as many instant ridership possiblities as there were with the initial line so the expected ridership won't be comparable. This is why METRO was really pushing for the Richmond line to be build simultaneously. I fully suspect that this will be the final nail in the coffin for the Richmond line.

  5. Several years ago one of the neighbors of the 900th block of W 15 1/2 St. organized a petition to reintroduce deed restrictions on our street in Shady Acres Annex.  The majority of the residents approved and new restrictions were reimposed.  The was done through city channels, a hearing was held and the city signed off on this.

Deed restrictions are not implemented at the city level. They are governed by state law and filed with the county.

If you believe they are enforceable, you can file a complaint here.

  6. They need to call the Mayor's office period. Mayor Parker continues to ignore infrastructure. She promised roads would be maintained better if the drainage fee was passed. She promised none of this money would be used to pay salaries. She lied on both counts. 25% of the drainage fee is being used to pay salaries and road maintenance has declined under her administration. Her opponent is already taking advantage of this obvious failure and has been notifying neighborhood leaders.

  7. Can somone give me answer as to why all the sidewalk so inconsistent? There are patches with the grass strip along the side and a small narrow sidewalk.

It varies because the right of way varies due to front setbacks of buildings. While METRO was forced to claim some properties through eminent domain, there are others where they did not to save some money so the sidewalks are narrow. I turned in a few to my councilmember who said "I didn't know there were any that narrow" METRO has trees and even bus signs coming up from the middle of the sidewalk which limits access for those in wheelchairs. It definitely is not would be considered a walkable environment.
  8. It was a mix of both, but had there been no resistance the line would've gone down westheimer through highland village, making afton oaks a non-issue. So Culberson's and afton oaks' reaction was a secondary reaction to highland village protests. If there was no resistance period it would be hard to say that at this point ten years later that construction would have at least started.

if if if......fact, METRO is incompetent.

It would really help to keep the discussion in the present. The Richmond line is dead.

  9. I would bet a rail will get built before fat Houstonians, which are the majority, get skinny. And I would say the main reason the university line never got started is the stalling tactics of one John Culberson via Afton Oaks, and at this point, he won.

I think you're giving John Culberson more credit than he deserves. METRO's incompetancy did the line in.
  10. There are plenty of ways to get the funding.  Look at what the mayor of LA is doing.  If mayor Parker makes it a goal to get the University Line built, then she can find a way to get it built.

Name 3 realistic ways to get funding, especially with the METRO board itself declaring the Richmond rail dead for at least a decade.

METRO has wasted 60 to 100 million on the richmond line and has zero to show for that expenditure.

Mayor Parker's only goal is to get fat Houstonians to lose weight.

  11. Does anyone know how builders acquire lots in Shady Acres or Timbergrove area?

The builders contact the owners of empty parcels. If the parcel is able to be divided, most likely you wouldn't be able to match the price the builder offers because they are able to offer more since they will be building multiple structures.

you can easily drive thru the area you are interested in and go onto hcad and find the owner an any parcel of land.
