  1. It kills a few minutes of lunch and takes me back to high school; so there is still some value here I guess.   After checking this forum, I like to ready the chron comments.  People sitting at their computer making a real difference on society.

So less than an hour after your last post, you decide to post again? LOL

  2. With businesses moving to the suburbs, the employees are just following.

Homes outside the beltway draw 8 out of 10 buyers

    http://www.chron.com/homes/neighborhood-survey-2013/article/Homes-outside-Loop-610-draw-8-out-of-10-buyers-4432802.php

More than 80 percent of the homes that sold last year were outside of Beltway 8, according to a study commissioned by the Houston Chronicle. Compare that to just 6 percent inside Loop 610 and 12.8 percent between the Loop and the Beltway.

  3. Every community meeting I have attended wanted to SLOW traffic down on Westheimer!

Avondale Civic put in one of it's CIP proposals for a flashing yellow light at the Stanford/Westheimer intersection, hoping to slow traffic down for Katz customers that cross street to get to their cars.--it was denied-

With lower Westheimer being served by the fire station located on Elgin in Midtown, I can understand why it was denied.
  4. Main Street Square is probably the least active section of downtown. Glad to hear that you'd like the rest of Main Street to be just as active.

Like I said, be careful what you ask for. If you and your FB friends believe after careful consideration that expanding Main Street Square from I-10 to US 59 is a winner, then y'all know who to contact. Honestly, I don't think I'll be signing your iPetition.

You are right The skaters went through this in the 90s when City Council was attempting to ban skating downtown. The problem was that a small group of skaters were causing property damage by grinding. So instead of banning grinding, they wanted to ban skating as a whole and a large group of us spoke before city council in order to allow skating to continue.

  5. I almost hit a motorist who ran a stop sign. I've had motorists yell obscenities at me as they attempt to cut me off in traffic.

The difference is that the people you complain of are operating vehicles that weigh 2 to 3 tons less than the ones doing it to me. Further, there are literally millions of motorists on the roads daily versus literally thousands of cyclists.

Would you like some cream with your hot steaming cup of manufactured outrage?

I'm not the outraged bunch who complained to city council in order to get this ordinance passed that ultimately won't make the cyclists safer. But I'm sure they feel better now.
  6. Critical Mass is really not a problem in this city. In some places, yes, they break as many laws as they can, but Houston's Critical Mass has always been completely respectful of other people using the road. I've never seen them take more than one lane (on roads with multiple lanes) and they have a good relationship with HPD.

And i've seen them go through red lights yelling obscenties at cars who have the green light and are honking at the cyclists. That's NOT being respectful to me. I personally almost hit a rider who decided to cross in the middle of a block in front of a parked vehicle which made him impossible to see until he was already in my lane.
