  1. I think that's right - with the trim comment I was thinking Tahoe-Yukon comparison, although I think the GMC stuff is both nicer and more heavy duty even in the pick-ups. It may be a whole different ball game with full size vans and commercial/bigger trucks. They had the GMC Safari since the 80's, which I think was slightly nicer than its counterpart Astro - which, by the way, is a crappy car to learn to drive with when it's raining. It is a great car (mini-van) for a group of teenage boys up to no good though.
  2. Yes, this is what I understand to be true. The GMC line are all Chevy's but with different trim. I don't think GMC has any models without a Chevy counterpart. Typically the GMC version is slightly nicer, or so I thought, but I am not sure that applies to all of their trucks. There might be commercial lines they have that I don't know anything about.
  3. Sounds like a great weekend to do those coolant flushes I've been putting off...
  4. What's up with the hatchback comeback (the Acura)? I'm not a big fan. I think they're trying to make cars look like a Prius so people look earth-friendly even if they're not. I agree that the Grand Cherokee doesn't look good. I think Jeep should stick to Wranglers and ditch everything else. Could you make a more feminine vehicle than the Liberty? Maybe they did that on purpose, maybe not. Where does the GMC Terrain fit into their lineup (Trailblazer-Tahoe-Suburban equivalent or separate altogether)?
  5. Hit Big Mamou tonight, I would rate it as good. I had the shrimp poboy, it was certainly big enough. They still have the soft opening menu. I'm not sure about the layout of the place. The building is nice, not very big. They have an order-at-the-counter thing going, and I think if they got rid of that and used the 2 cashiers as waiters they could fit 3-4 more tables inside. The front porch isn't huge, but they have a back porch with 4-5 picnic benches. One thing I never really thought about but noticed with 11th St Cafe as well is that the lots on Studewood are incredibly shallow. It's really hard to pull off a business AND parking. It's gotta be a small time place, and at least half a block long.
  6. No. 90 losses. 100 probably. Also, the Astros will post the highest team ERA of any team/season this century.
  7. Lots of time has passed since this thread started - can we switch the main title with the subtext? Not that important, but would be more clear to those who haven't been in on this since the beginning.
  8. Yeah they really need to make this happen. Damn Boston people, they suck more than just being annoying red sox and patriots fans. So has anyone done the math on how much rental revenue they lost by tearing down so quickly and not doing a damn thing? It would make me sick to hear, I can only imagine how it makes the property owners feel.
  9. Bayou City Art Festival. There's another thread, I am too lazy to locate and link it.
  10. Say it ain't so - 5 shrimp on a poboy? I don't care if they're big, that's pathetic. Are they pimping this place as upscale cajun or something? Poboys should always be overflowing with whatever meat is on it, and should always be offered as whole or half. And half better damn fill you up, whole would be for 2 people, or one male between the ages of 16 and 25.
  11. Thanks for the tips HAIFers, I'll be tackling this over the weekend, unless someone else has other plans for me.
  12. How often should I do a coolant flush? I know after a while there is scaling and potential for corrosion, but on newer vehicles (2004 and 2005 is what we have) what's the good standard for flushing and replacing? Also, I've never done it before but it seems like it would be damn easy. Or is this one of those things that's just easier to bring over to Jiffy Lube and have it done?
  13. I'm well past my times of eating out anywhere near 10pm, so if you keep your current valet policy it won't stop us from dropping in during happy hour times. And I like the idea of squeezing more money out of the club rats!
  14. Ausmus (avg, RBI, run, HR, CS%) 2006 .230, 39, 37, 2, .221 2007 .235, 25, 38, 3, .266 2008 .218, 24, 15, 3, .208 (only 81 games) Pudge 2006 .300, 69, 74, 13, .510 2007 .281, 63, 50, 11, .309 2008 .276, 35, 44, 7, .325 (115 games) I'd say better all around, and I think he's a better kind of leader than Ausmus.
  15. This makes good sense. He's 10 times the hitter Ausmus ever was, even at his current age and on the decline. Toby Hall and Towles weren't the answer either. Rodriguez should also give the many hispanics in the area even more reason to support the 'stros.
  16. Thanks for the video, and welcome to HAIF! Did the dust cloud make it to the top of the garage y'all were on? I wonder if it all settled before the rain came through, or if some nearby locations got some nasty coatings.
  17. I haven't put a lot of thought into it, I would need to in order to get my head around that idea. But really it's less insurance than glorified administration, which government can be very capable of doing. If "premiums" were taken directly out of taxes like social security that would seem to be easier than dealing with the uninsured masses. Then again how do you account for dependents, etc. I'm sure there are plans that outline all the details, but like I said I haven't gotten into it.
  18. The only thing I really like about the plan we just switched to this year is that preventive care is 100% paid for, there's not even a copay. I think more companies will go toward this. Of course at the same time the cost of non-preventive care will go up. I have never felt like I get my money's worth out of our health plan. I don't know how anyone could. But that's what you're stuck with, the alternative costs 10 times as much. I'm not sure socializing it will make anything better, but changes to the way it's run and regulated can only help. What possible way could there be for drug companies to be non-profit? The talent in America, by and large, goes where the money is. If that goes away it will put a huge dent in research and progress. And if socialized it would be riddled with bureaucracy and very average people, just like every other government department.
  19. The garage apartment I lived in had gas. It was built in 2003 I think, pretty new and bigger than most. I think it was actually bigger than my current house if you count the garage space footage. Anyway, maybe what you are talking about applies to add-ons and not new construction? I have no idea.
  20. I also hate valet parking and never do it out of principle. It's so completely unnecessary when they take your car and drive it 15 feet to a spot. Thanks, I really needed your help for that. There was no valet when we went at 6:30, does it do that later because the lot is shared with a club or something? Or is this just the following of an idiotic trend in Houston?
  21. Went there tonight and it was great. Awesome food and the place looks excellent. my only question is why the large restroom "lobby"? Looks like you could squeeze a couple more tables in a cramp that space down. unless there are plans for storage or something. Not really a big deal, I thought everything was fantastic.
  22. Someone in our row of houses looked into this, and said it was possible. They were quoted around $35k for doing the work, which sounded low to me, but what do I know. It may be different for your situation. Anyway, if the slab is good that's your only hope of avoiding complete demo, otherwise you can reuse some stuff.
  23. I went to one in Dillon, CO that was big for that town, and most of the teams there travel all over the country doing this. The way they pay for their travels is to sell plates to the public after they submit their competition food. I thought it was pretty good. This one in Houston just has a totally different flavor, it's all about sponsorships and parties. Yeah there are probably smaller teams all about the cooking, but mostly it's not.
