  1. That bum won! See, it's not so bad for them.
  2. Agree with the first 2 replies - I scored tent tickets once and had a WAY different experience than the general public. Free booze, way more food, and an all day party. Unless you just like to walk around, people-watch, and smell barbecue it might be boring watching everyone else go into private tents to party. I did talk to a lot of other barbecue teams while walking around, but they weren't offering food or entry into their tent. There are so many people, they just have to limit it to tickets/invites/wrist bands or however they keep track of it.
  3. I agree that the current separation is practical and working well. I guess they just want to make it more "one park" and give walkers/joggers access to the hardly-ever-full parking lots on the south side. Lots of people park there already and just walk across at the light, this will just make it safer.
  4. Everyone on sports talk radio today can't figure out why the Rockets would do it. Maybe the GM knows something we don't. I don't follow them very closely, I haven't really heard of any of the players.
  5. What's wrong with a little jack-in-the-box after slamming appletinis all night? There are 24-hr options all over the place!
  6. But even Richmond is more spread out, it seems. These are getting stacked on top of each other. This thread depresses me because when I see a place called "Pig Stand" I have to eat there. And now I never can.
  7. No worries, I figured it was just a startup thing you're working through. We definitely want to try the place - any idea when the high chairs will arrive? I think we'll just call ahead next time to be sure.
  8. Went to try this place out today...didn't quite work out because they had no high chairs. The staff didn't seem to know if that was on purpose or if they just didn't have any yet, but I'd like to know. It looked pretty cool inside, very trendy. Maybe a few babies here and there would kill the trendy vibe or something. Ended up going to Tomo, which was ok but not as good as it was last time we went.
  9. No, that's the mattress store. It'll be next to the cell phone store.
  10. I don't mind the visual blight. Monuments to things are interesting. What bothers me is that this church decided that it was better to spend tons of money on this rather than feeding or clothing some poor people. Let's me know what that group is really all about.
  11. Sweet Temptation was good stuff. Very small inside, but still it was busy and loud enough that it didn't matter that we had a baby also making noise. Anyway, food was great, we'll add it to our rotation.
  12. So I guess it'll be relocating to Laredo then? Or can I just start telling people I live in the midwest just because I like the way it sounds?
  13. Houston is not south Texas at all. This would be a very stupid choice. Just do East Texas, it's much closer to being correct. They might as well just sell the naming rights if they go South Texas. GoldenNugget.com University!!!
  14. Tourists and upscale downtowners won't be drawn in by fruit and veggies. Downtown needs life, culture, and people milling around. That's why I'm thinking Jackson Square. Go there on a random Tuesday night, stuff is happening. I have no idea how to bring that kind of stuff to a place, but a start would be not driving it out. Sausage on a stick is not the answer. Maybe daiquiri to-go places that sell to anyone over 4 feet tall are.
  15. We're gonna check it out Friday, will report back with impressions.
  16. Why a farmer's market? I'm not going downtown for my veggies. They need to fill it with street artists, fortune tellers, and productive homeless people (beggar musicians). Jackson Square rocks.
  17. So where are the big screen TVs? I'm not going until that happens.
  18. I think it should be a rope and plank bridge, all natural. Like in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I mean, there are already some gators down there, so it's exactly the same. "Go ahead Dr. Jones...drop them! They will be found. You won't!!"
  19. Haven't tried the wing place, but I saw it and I want to. Hopefully I will in the next couple weeks and I'll post a review. Haven't been to that Chacho's, but the one on Westheimer was a popular lunch spot for us when our office was by the galleria. Huge burritos, pretty cheap. And huge margaritas.
  20. Why not Hess Discovery Tower or Hess Tower at DG. Probably not.
  21. Jazzie definitely does it right, it's just tough to remember when they are open. Go for the shrimp or other seafood poboy, they use pretty big shrimp and fry them up right. I had chicken wings from there one time and they weren't the best (same oil as the shrimp I'm guessing...mmm...seafood flavored chicken), so I'm going to stick to what I know they do well.
  22. Went to Mardi Gras Grill (not the first time) tonight, always good stuff. Somehow among a bunch of places who try but fail they got the whole Louisiana seafood place thing right. My only qualm is I wish they would stuff their poboys just a bit more. But that's our place to go for a taste of home.
  23. Did they open back up yet? Been expanding/renovating the past several weeks. We need to try it.
  24. I don't like the directional ones, they just put an automatic smallness/unimportance to a school. And South Texas to me isn't near Houston, it's waaaayy down there in Zapata and Laredo. But that might just be me.
