  1. Agreed, 100%. I'm just hoping that the majority of the clientele isn't the same clientele that frequents places like Pub Fiction. If the folks from Leon's for example, or the Continental Club or Big Top make it over to Crave, on the other hand, that would be awesome. I'm an elitist asshole like that.
  2. The bedroom is TO DIE FOR -- the views, the bedding, the adorable table, the comfy-looking couch. I would never leave it. Gah.
  3. Ding ding ding ding ding! Give the man his toaster, Wanda!
  4. Sweet. I am totally trying a sausage whatchamadoodlini this weekend.
  5. If I'm writing about you, you aren't exactly in your fifteen minutes of fame quite yet.
  6. This is what we've been reduced to as a society? Top dog and cat names as headline news? ...yeah, I'm a sucker for lowbrow news, too: Top Dog & Cat Names of 2008 (most unusual names are listed, too) Also feeling like a wholly unoriginal schmuck because both of my dogs' names are in the top ten.
  7. There aren't any Starbucks in the Heights. And where is Nicholson? (not trying to be a jerk, just asking...)
  8. Houstonist has put together a list of the best jukeboxes in town: Houston's Best Jukeboxes La Carafe got top nods. Agree or disagree? My personal favorite used to be at Hans' Bier Haus. So sad when they switched to the new internet-enabled jukebox. Those make Baby Jesus cry.
  9. You aren't missing anything. Every morning as I drive towards it I think, "Maybe this is the day that I'll come to peace with the Decepticon." I can't ever truly like the Decepticon, of course, but I'm hoping that I'll eventually make peace with its evil presence. But so far that day has yet to come.
  10. Thank you! I knew it reminded me of something and I couldn't put my finger on it... Robb Walsh of the Press stopped by the other day. Here's his review: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2009/...outh_burger.php For the record, ketchup on a burger = heresy.
  11. B4-U-Eat still lists it as open, and they're usually extremely vigilant about keeping their site updated: http://www.b4-u-eat.com/houston/restaurant...ews/rsv0968.asp That said, the last review is from back in November. Anyone want to go play detective? Would that I could today...
  12. Heh. Start her off easy with hand rolls and other non-threatening items, just so she can get the gist of the flavors. Then start working your way into actual sushi (again, the easy stuff like ebi) and move up from there. That's what I had to do with my husband. Also, for the rest of the thread, an article this morning on Crave at the Houston Press food blog: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2009/...eak_preview.php
  13. I'll be there, too. Watch out for the girl who's trying to run after the goat and his wagon, screaming "Just one pet! I just want to love you!"
  14. I've always felt that way: Room with a View They're insane for asking that much for those townhomes. In. Sane.
  15. Wow! So angry over some Wikipedia links! If you want the audio, go find it yourself. Payam isn't your personal Google. And there's no need to get so nasty.
  16. I believe we've commisserated about this before. I'm constantly surprised that this Kroger remains in business with three very nice grocery stores (and one awesome organic food store -- Sandy's) also in the immediate area. Like the Kroger at Hammerly and Long Point, the one on Memorial only seems to serve the people who walk there from the shady apartments directly behind it. Wouldn't be any great loss to see it go. Krogers in general just seem to have given up. It's too depressing to even try and shop in one anymore.
  17. Not to mention there's another, equally popular Asian market in the other direction: Komart, at Gessner and I-10. Who knew this corridor of I-10 was turning into the city's third Chinatown? Super H Mart is incredible, though. Favorite Asian market in the city, probably my second favorite store overall (behind Central Market). Their food court is wonderful, too -- if you can stake out a table, that is. Kimchee fried rice FTW!
  18. Although they aren't horror movies, there are two films I've seen that (1) I will never, ever, ever watch again and (2) scared the ever-living daylights out of me: Trainspotting Requiem for a Dream I felt dirty for literally weeks after watching Requiem for a Dream. I have nightmares about certain scenes in that movie to this day. *shudder* They scared me so badly that sometimes I think they should be mandatory viewing material in schools to scare kids away from drugs.
  19. Seriously. Who can hate a place with such delicious fried pickles?
  20. We still have Appletrees in Houston? Where have I been? I thougth they were just another vestige of my youth like Lewis & Coker or Continental Finer Foods.
  21. I hug and kiss nearly all of my friends when I first greet them and again when we're leaving. I'm also a terrible flirt. But for me, those two things have nothing to do with each other. Hugging and kissing as a form of greeting is nothing more to me than a handshake would be to other people. Interesting perspective, Vertigo... Do others feel that hugging and kissing when greeting/saying goodbye is flirtatious? I suppose that depends on whether or not your partner condones or is aware of the porn viewing. If they know that you're watching Debbie Does Dallas every once in a while and they don't care, then I certainly wouldn't call that cheating. On the other hand, if all you're doing is viewing porn and it interferes with your normal sexual life with your spouse, then I would class that in the "unfaithful" category. And I think at that point, you've crossed over into "disorder" territory, as well.
  22. Mark F. Barnes, I LOVE your dogs. So adorable. This is Niblet (with my husband, being interrupted during a Dynamo game): Part chihuahua, part Italian greyhound. She was a rescue from the HSPCA. And this is Daisy. Part German shepherd, part something else. She was a rescue from CAP. We also have Gracie (black cat), Sammy (miniature schanuzer), Ernie (lhasa apso/shih-tzu mix) and Logan (dobermann). In the past, I've had Angus (English springer spaniel), George (another spaniel), Casey (another spaniel), Frisky (a tabby cat), Speece (another tabby), Gray Cat (a Russian blue cat), Belle (a Persian cat), and Bernizzle (a black cat who was Gracie's brother, but went crazy one day and had to be put down). We like animals.
