I really like the idea of preserving the dome and love the idea of a STEM museum. There's a big part of me though that wonders whether a STEM museum would be better situated in a development of the NASA site in Clear Lake. I know that it's further from the city and the rest of the museum district, but I would think that there could be a really nice connection/integration with the space program.

I refuse to accept any airport naming ideas that include the word "intergalactic" but doesn't also reference The Beastie Boys.

Bonefish is open. I haven't been able to find an opening date for Grimaldi's yet, but I'm guessing less than 30 days. World of Beer looks outstanding, but I save most of my beer consumption for my No Label Saturdays.

In the article, they state that the complex is 100% leased. If that's correct, then there's a bunch of leases that they haven't announced yet for phase II.

Memorial Park At 6501 Memorial Dr.
livincinco replied to themidtownguy's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
Hopefully, they're going to re-look at the trail network before they plant new trees. This would be a perfect time to extend the jogging trails. -
PNC Plaza At 2200 Post Oak Blvd. & Mixed-Use At 2120 Post Oak Blvd.

I agree. I went by it the other day and was quite surprised by how much better it looked in person. Hopefully, they'll build out the other two buildings per the plan. It'll be a really nice addition to the area if that happens.- 645 replies

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that 8 out of 10 home purchases occur outside of the Beltway. http://www.chron.com/business/real-estate/article/Homes-outside-Loop-610-draw-8-out-of-10-buyers-4432802.php

Yes, it's an assumption that it's the same corridor, but the attached article describes the route and it sounds like it's a correct assumption. It also breaks out the cost for the BRT at $177.5 million which seems much more reasonable. http://www.uptown-houston.com/images/uploads/HouChron%2003%2024%2013a.pdf

Lots of development in that area. Not surprising though since it is the "centre" of the city.

I'm really curious to see the budget for this because $556 million is a lot of money for 4.4 miles of brt. I know that they've grouped some other things into this, but that seems like a big number.

Marriott Marquis: GRB Convention Center Hotel At 1777 Walker St.
livincinco replied to Subdude's topic in Downtown
I meant that it's a part of the Marriott Brand of the Marriott corporation although it does look like they've opened a JW Marriott Marquis in Dubai so it appears that they are looking at it as a cross brand identification.- 2,096 replies

Marriott Marquis: GRB Convention Center Hotel At 1777 Walker St.
livincinco replied to Subdude's topic in Downtown
Its considered part of the Marriott brand and I believe that they use it to designate their largest hotels. There aren't a lot of them.- 2,096 replies

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that anytime in the near future. There's a huge number of homes under construction out on the west side. I'm guessing that the same is true in a number of other suburbs too. Houston is continuing to sprawl.

Hipster \hip-stur\n. One who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream. A Hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat.

This is going to come of as trolling, but it's a serious question, because this kind of comment always fascinates me. I think I understand your comments related to Chipotle and Starbucks because they're big corporations, they have a lot of locations and aren't unique to the area. But when in a companies' growth does that happen? Did Chipotle become bad when they took McDonalds money to finance their growth or was it before that (they had already expanded to 16 locations when that happened). Would you feel differently if Freebirds (80 locations, headquartered in California and growing) went into that space? What about Mission Burrito (4 locations and local)? What if an entrepreneur/chef who was trained at the Culinary Institute of America opened a fast, casual restaurant that was committed to sustainable agriculture (description of the first Chipotle Location opened by current chairman and CEO Steve Ellis)? I'm all in favor of supporting local restaurants and entrepreneurs and hopefully some of our locals will win the lottery, like Steve Ellis did. If you don't like Starbucks and Chipotle, don't patronize them, but a "tragedy"?

This seems like an awful lot of analysis dedicated to the economic impact of the loss of 82 residence units. If that loss of revenue has a severe impact on downtown restaurants (especially considering all of the current upside) then they were probably going out of business anyway. There are two major residential projects in the near future and a major city initiative to support future development of that kind. Downtown's population is growing. Even in the worst case scenario, this is a minor setback.

I agree. Could be an amazing performance space also. You could rig a sound and lighting system unlike any other outdoor amphitheater.
