We did El Tiempo the weekend before last. It was marginal at best and they sure have a sorrry excuse for a top shelf rita. But I really don't see "Washington Ave." needing its own forum. It's still a tacky little street at best.

Other cities comparing themselves to Houston
MidtownCoog replied to editor's topic in Houston and the Media
WSJ calls it an "exhibitionist skyline". http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1181339283...=googlenews_wsj -
Wow. I am on the 29th downtown and you can actually see the Endeavor from here on a nice day.

Harris County Commissioners to vote to raise toll fees
MidtownCoog replied to musicman's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Other than people rightfully complaining about the fee doubling, I don't see any commuters asking for sympathy regarding their commute. People do not commute with a gun held to their head. -
Entrepreneurs Filling Niche Keeping Ponds Sparkling

I've never seen a tidy-bowl colored fake lake. Must be a Sugar Land thing. And FWIW, the trees on Will Clayton are looking great. They even have soakers hoses on them, not that we have needed it. -
Well if you follow my mantra for Houston lawn parking is cool. Are that many people doing it? I know the townhome trend is eating up a lot of street parking. As I kid I remember my Dad doing shade tree mechanic stuff. But they always put the car back in the drive when he was done.

Harris County Commissioners to vote to raise toll fees
MidtownCoog replied to musicman's topic in Traffic and Transportation
The court agreed to a schedule that would double all toll rates over the next 20 years. Rates will go up annually: 2 percent or at the rate of the rise in the consumer price index, whichever is greater. -

Well this time it looks like logic won and the big bad Harris County boys lost this game of chicken. Put that into your equations and compute it. -

Take out the word "poor" and that's an exact quote from Raddack. And that's the exact message that came across, hence, the PR/backpedaling job performed today by the CO. commissioners. They bit the hand that feeds them and they realized it. My advice to you, -
I noticed some "tagist" recently tagged the cool mural across 59 from the GRB. The mural was great. Why some Vato had to ruin it with their Mexican balloon letters is beyond me. Must be some kind of Vato competition.

Too funny. Niche may poo-poo the "highly vocal constituents", but when the benefit of the hike was to "get the poor people off the toll roards" you can always expect a revolt. -

If you are a football fan, I encourage you to get involved with the Cougar Crew. It's the student group and they have events at the games, tailgates, etc. Good way to meet a bunch of students. -
Harris County Commissioners to vote to raise toll fees

Niche is a bit oblivious to reality. The star of this zoo crew, County Judge Ed Emmett, wants to run for Co. Commissioner. He's been raising money for ove a year. The headline says it all: County to take another look at doubling fees. -
Who cares about Hitler and silly poser cool guy quotes? We all know the best quotes are one's own. Back on topic... So today even The Chron has symathy for yard parkers: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/editorial/4907274.html Sounds like it's cool to yard park as long as you are economically and culturally diverse. And we all know what that means.

Looks like Austin has a process where neighborhoods can request to be in the "no yard parking" zone. https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/zoning/front_yd_parking.htm As of August 2002, neighborhoods going through the Neighborhood Planning Process can also decide whether or not to allow front yard parking in their areas. See below for more information and for an application. Applications will only be accepted during the month of February each year.

Only in Houston can you find people who don't seem to mind "yard parking". Houston - Be Yourself!

Kill the grass? Yard-parking scuzballs don't have grass. They have dirt.

New Orleans has one, too. And it has (had) a cool little rotating bar at the top called "Top of the Mart". It was nice. They used to call the building Internationl Trade Mart. They had to change the name becuase too many illegals thought it was a new K-Mart.

Houston's own food

The banh mi is a nice fit, but NYC already thinks they invented it. At least the NYC section of Chowhound.com does. -

I've had the kolaches in Praha but they didn't seem the same. Too sugary. And I don't recall seeing one with sausage. All the sausage I saw look like what you find in Wenceslas Square and served with a bun. Yum! -
Harris County Commissioners to vote to raise toll fees
MidtownCoog replied to musicman's topic in Traffic and Transportation
I can see it now: "When visting Houston, be sure to avoid the "poor roads". Not poor in quality per se, just filled to capacity with poor dumb bastards who can't afford the toll." Everybody follow the dancing ball and sing along, now: "Oh ye'll take the poor road and I'll take the rich road, An' I'll be to work before ye', ... " -

Anyone with a brain already takes the HOV or a Park and Ride bus downtown from the burbs. The daily drivers are the exception.
