Appears to be on the site of TWU's old air control tower-esque building that Methodist acquired a couple years ago...

MD Anderson Main Building At 1515 Holcombe Blvd.
wernicke replied to tmariar's topic in Texas Medical Center
Parking within the TMC core is extremely profitable. Standard TMC rates get to $12 at just over 2 hours, which is as long as any doctor visit takes in the TMC. I'm sure MD Anderson will add a new building on the site with a large garage. Hopefully they integrate the adjacent rail stop thoughtfully.- 111 replies

And, of course, they forgot to promote that the Ruggles Green will have fantastic, up close views of... an electrical substation.

I agree... interesting how people love to come onto an architecture site and b"tch and moan about people critiquing architecture.

This is probably the ugliest building to go up downtown in the last 30 years... the worst part is it's prime location on the park and the fact that the city subsidized this crap. I mean if you're going to incentivize building something right on the CBD's most attractive feature, you should be able to demand a certain level of quality in design...

I must say that The Niche's constant antagonism makes me less inclined to post on this site... DT turned out better than I expected. Makes a nice impression from the park... it looks modern and the turbines do add an aesthetic flare. Too bad I can't say the same thing for the ugly and uninteresting Embassy Suites...

The pyramid structure they put on the roof looks totally retarded. Pretty lame building in my opinion.

It'll be interesting to see how closely this one resembles the cartoonish rendering. At 19 stories, it looks like it is over halfway up... pretty short, but I guess something is better than nothing.

Pretty ugly... perhaps their budget limited the design possibilities.- 119 replies

I disagree... I think it is a definite improvement over what currently exists. And adding the Nikko Nikko's Cafe should bring people to the park. The surrounding businesses will gain customers.

MD Anderson Mid Campus 1 Building At 7007 Bertner Ave.
wernicke replied to ChannelTwoNews's topic in Texas Medical Center
That beige/peach color is pretty blah... I think MD Anderson feels obligated to make all their buildings look homogenous for some reason (except for the Mays Clinic).- 141 replies

MD Anderson Mid Campus 1 Building At 7007 Bertner Ave.
wernicke replied to ChannelTwoNews's topic in Texas Medical Center
Discovery Tower is 29 stories. This MD Anderson building is 25 stories. "These buildings" aren't much shorter than DT, not to mention that HP is 2-3 stories tall with an 11 story tall office tower. Also, evidently, this building had the second largest mat pour in US History (maybe someone can explain to me why that would be). I mean, in the last 20 years (1990), how many buildings have been built in downtown that are significantly taller than Hermann Professional building (30), the new Methodist tower (25), MDACC's addition to Alkek (21), this building (25)? Just Enron? Now MP? Let's face it, downtown isn't exactly sprouting supertalls... 25 story infill would be great downtown, but there's no demand.- 141 replies

I know... it IS Houston. Let them build their tower wherever they want. The denials are all political. We should be hoping something like this gets built in the current climate. Its just a few blocks from the Museum Tower.

For some reason when I look at DT, I want something bigger and more modern. Maybe the structure holding the wind turbines will add something, but it's still pretty boring.

Astrodome To Be Turned Into A Movie Studio
wernicke replied to Subdude's topic in Texas Medical Center
I'm doubtful the studio idea would be a financial success.
