  1. Trying to stereotype Midtown residents as a bunch of frat boys is pretty lame and has no basis in reality.
  2. I'm with Dan... I don't like it either, particularly the brown/tan tile exterior. And they are probably going to carry on with a similar design as they destroy the rest of River Oaks Shopping Center.
  3. You are correct, ihop... it will feed directly into UT/MD Anderson's South Campus.
  4. Drove by tonight... the building had this crazy neon purple design on the body of the building facing west. Couldn't tell what it was supposed to be. Kind of cool looking though... especially with the Hermann building's lighting nearby.
  5. The rendering appears to show a multi-level attached garage, with pool on top next to the building.
  6. I'm now thinking they must have found a tenant for that slot and are adapting the glass/entry. Here is the layout of the ground floor. The work appears to be only on the 7700 sqft slot... so maybe a restaurant? Or maybe that glass/steel was defective.
  7. Ya... pretty lame development IMO. Not sure if "anything IS better than nothing" in this case. Woulda be nice to see a project similar to the Venue development in the Museum District, built in this spot.
  8. So workers have built a wooden framework in the northern section of the ground floor... it doesn't look like a store buildout... it is set back a few feet from the windows and is only about 7 ft high... I'm think they will use it for advertising or something.
  9. Walked around the park this weekend... the Tiffany Bridge is pretty lame. Will have to wait and see how the restaurant turns out before I judge the whole "Lake Plaza" renovation.
  10. I think the Hermann building + lights is really cool, personally... and not "gay" in any way. There's a rumor that St. Luke's might be interested in the Baylor hospital, but there are all sorts of issues that may make it impossible. There's no way the VA would expand, especially into a facility that size.
  11. Well, a year later and they still haven't leased a single spot on the ground floor of the 24 Hour Fitness building (labeled with signage as "The Mix", even though it only has one tenant) ... so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say nothing will happen on the lot across the street for a very long time. On a positive note, all of the slots in the Maple Leaf strip center are finally leased, and, just beyond that, Saint Danes is quite popular.
  12. It's been up for a while... there had been a Gensler sign (I think) hanging on the northern side a while back (I could see if from the train headed northbound).
  13. I thought they had already agreed to subsidize this development. Dallas is voting on a ban of public financing for a convention hotel next week... the anti-government intervention folks are rabid up there.
  14. Hopefully the stadium looks better than the images that have been released so far...
  15. My school (UT-H) sent out an email attributing the uptick in traffic last week to Spring Break... it looked like a mess though, as a rolled by in the train...
  16. I don't see any timelines...? Are they going to have to raise all the money before they get started (cuz it's going to be tough in this climate)?
  17. Rational or not, I'm kind of disappointed in losing the floor count... my Sim city side wishes it was in the 50s, not 20s.
  18. Pretty cool illusionescape... seems very low density. This line will take forever to be successful.
  19. This thing wouldn't happen in years, if ever. Maybe they figure some nice plans will help with the real estate value of the 100 acres.
  20. Is it on hold? The Chronicle article about the developer securing financing in a difficult climate was only about 3 weeks ago...
  21. I'm in Denver interviewing for residency for the next 3 days... and I must say that the Denver Pavilions is a much better development in comparison to Houston Pavilions. Part of it has to do with the area -- the 16th St Mall where DP is located is an ideal pedestrian friendly, urban corridor. But much of it has to do with the architecture and tenants... much more open and inviting, less sterile concrete and steel. Kind of disappointing to see what could have been. I will try to post some pictures later. Downtown Denver is awesome, btw.
  22. I'm just skeptical of the "architectural wonder" statement... I won't hold my breath for a Muslim community center at Allen and Montrose that can be considered an architectural wonder, especially in Houston.
