  1. It is not local, but a Joe Muggs Cafe/Coffee shop is inside Books-a-million. Oh, and the Gap sucks.
  2. The store looks good... they went with an industrial interior design. I just hope there is enough seating for people who study/read at bookstores (I couldn't tell from the windows). It has a soft opening this Thursday right?
  3. This is an additional location, their 3rd. I think a 4th is going in somewhere else.
  4. I definitely think Dallas St. from GRB to Main St. should be made into a pedestrian friendly corridor, and the city should encourage (incentivize) development of hotel/residential/retail projects. There are 5 blocks adjacent to Dallas between HOB and Hilton/DG/GRB just waiting for it...
  5. Just walking around, the blocks between HP and Hilton/DG/Toyota have such huge potential if they are used correctly... I would want hotel/luxury apts/condo/retail in the 30-story range or above.
  6. I got bumped off at Rice U stop on Friday and immediately experienced a replay of the Metro's inadequate 700 bus substitute after Hurricane Ike. Think a large mob, few buses that do come by are full (or the driver will not open the doors despite adequate standing room), and general frustration.
  7. House of Blues is a music venue, Planet Hard Rock are restaurants with memorabilia.
  8. Actually, HOB has a lot of shows at very reasonable prices... matisyahu and blues traveler starting at $25, bob schneider at $18.50. But you are going to pay if you wanna see Jay-Z, BB King, etc... which is expected I think. I think HOB will be fine. The 20 restaurants... I'm not sure. Also just FYI, if you look at the commercial/office brochure on the site, it has a few more places plugged into the layout (a bank, T-mobile, etc)
  9. There will be 3 stations, with the new main station near the Lake Plaza currently under contruction...
  10. Wow... a lot of restaurants. Hard to believe there is a demand for all of them. The "100 Days of Escapades" sounds interesting...
  11. Attell was supposed to open on Friday, the 10th, but cancelled. HOB opens this Saturday with Cowboy Mouth.
  12. I wish I had 2 tickets. House of Blues Concert Schedule and Jay-Z prices. There are some good shows coming.
  13. Just drove by again tonight... they have been putting trees in, no palm trees thankfully. They also put in the House of Blues sign... and lit up some of the blue lights. Looks good... of course they are opening in 4 days.
  14. But not many places with the amount of high traffic volume that 24 Hour Fitness brings to the building...
  15. I'm not sure how I feel about palm trees in this location...
  16. I've been wondering the same damn thing... hard to believe something hasn't gone in yet. Not sure what that means.
  17. Drove by tonight... still no signage. McCormick and Schmidt's looks finished... Books-A-Million looks nearly finished... there were workers inside Forever 21 doing sheet-rocking at 1030 PM. It looks good, some places better than others... I hope Books-A-Million has some nice study areas. And it looks like they have a lot of trees to be planted along the streets, which should look nice.
  18. Body Worlds Wikipedia The previous exhibit was Body Worlds 3: The Story of the Heart. Part 2 concerns the nervous system. I went to BWs 3 and was very impressed... the body's are really works of art, in addition to being educational. Preserving delicate structures is technically difficult.
  19. Maybe they should just rotate T-Mac and Yao in/out of the line-up throughout the regular season to keep them rested and feeling fresh for the playoffs... 22-game win streaks are fun... but they would be more fun if they happened when it counts (the playoffs).
  20. Injuries to T-Mac already a concern (Houston Chronicle). The team looks good on paper, but... it also looks like Artest may be the most healthy key player on the team. Too bad our stars have such frail joints... Go Rockets.
  21. You mean Books-A-Million... where is it located in HP? EDIT: Nevermind, noticed it was mentioned above.
  22. I noticed them building the mini-train's new stops near the TMC (across from Palmer/Hermann) and the Rice rail stop. Should be interesting.
  23. Yes, sir, Mr. Boss. I promise to take an actuarial approach to all my HAIF posts from here on out.
  24. I live at the Calais, and literally watched Brennan's burn to the ground. I went to sleep at about 12:30 AM the night of Ike, and was awoken by my fiance a little before 1:00, saying she had heard people screaming outside (including what she thought was a child)... The fire trucks were there immediately, so we went down to the 2nd level garage facing Smith street and watched as firefighters tried to fight the fire for a while before deciding to just let it burn out some (the winds made it impossible to control). I was very impressed with the fire department... those guys were so coordinated, and as they left to let Brennan's burn, they would stop, kneel, and cross themselves... it was striking to watch, really (especially knowing that people had been injured in the fire). I hope they can rebuild it, possibly salvaging part of the brick wall.
