  1. To be honest I think there is a knee-jerk fear reaction against the homeless that is totally undeserved. I work at a clinic for the homeless downtown sometimes, and granted that many of them have problems with drug/alcohol addiction or mental illness, they are essentially a benign group of people. They are just in survival mode and trying to make it out on the streets, but most of them are very friendly and have very sad/interesting life stories. I can understand a young woman being scared of a random person at nightime, but otherwise I think everyone is blowing the threat of the homeless way out of proportion. I also think there is a racial undercurrent that is not being acknowledged.
  2. I personally think the garage is kind of strange, particularly if they leave those cinder blocks at the bottom. More completed side.
  3. I'm not sure what you mean about copying and pasting the pic... I just cut this one down to be really small -- it is the more finished north side, you can see the dark brick with white trim:
  4. Took some pics of the progress yesterday. How do you guys post pictures consecutively within a single post (and get it to show up on the page)? Have a couple more pictures but it won't let me upload any more...
  5. I went down to DG today and walked around... they were having a super-fancy black tie gala in the park, complete with a red carpet and chandeliers hanging from the trees. It was early, but there was a huge wait staff meeting near The Grove. They were using the tent. Also, saw a couple of very attractive, very well-dressed (complete with bling) older ladies walking up. Also, they were having a helicopter convention at GRB... seemed interesting. The area looks nice, I like the colored art structure in the middle. The surface lots on the north side of the park kind of suck though.
  6. So the "Units" on the upper plan are all apartment space? This thing will be nice when it gets rolling... I just went to Dallas last weekend and was pretty impressed with their West Village development and the area around it, I'm hoping Regent Square has the same sort of feel (except maybe without all the super yuppies).
  7. Does this site not support Apple Computers? Cause I can't get any images...
  8. I am obviously biased b/c I live at Calais, but I'm pretty excited about the area around the Louisiana at Elgin intersection. If The Mix really is larger than the CrossPoint development across the street then there should be some nice momentum for pedestrian-friendly development in this part of Midtown... with Calais, Brennans, Demians, Maple Leaf pub, High Fashion Homes plus the 2 new developments all in walking distance. It is strange they got it going without any announcement/renderings...
  9. Ya, I live at the Calais and have been curious about these signs lately. It seems CrossPoint properties has signs all over midtown on lots/abandoned buildings advertising future lease space, but only a few have information available... I dunno what the deal is. http://www.crosspointproperties.com/properties.htm
  10. I drove by Discovery Green today and to be honest am really underwhelmed by the park... They put so much junk inside of it that I don't see how it will possibly ever have a real park feel. In person it just seems really small and unimpressive. I guess something is much better than nothing.
  11. This development is going to be totally massive if the Ritz specs are correct... which is exciting... but I'm with the other posters on the traffic issue though. I just don't see how this area can accommodate all the increased traffic that is on the way, it already is a total cluster ****. And add a rail line chopping up intersections... Sheesh.
  12. Does anyone know what is being developed on San Jacinto right off the rail in the museum district? They have fenced off 3 blocks and looks like they are about to get started. Any renderings? This is all I could find: Grayco is developing a third complex in the Museum District in a separate partnership with Lionstone Group, a Houston-based real estate investment firm. Bounded by Oakdale, Prospect, San Jacinto and Fannin, the six-story midrise will be just north of the Museum of Fine Arts complex. The light rail line is less than 200 feet from the site. Rents in Museum Place will be in the $1.75-per-square-foot range. The project will be more "edgy and contemporary in feel," Gray said, with a lot of floor-to-ceiling glass.
  13. I live at the Calais right across the street and they have now finished the entire steel superstructure for this building (they start banging at 7AM)... Now they just need to fill it in! My gf and I are pretty excited about have a nice retail center within one block of our front door.
  14. Yea my gf works for Deloitte and Touche... they are moving to nice new digs at Heritage Plaza (several floors are being remodeled now) from Allen Center and supposedly a requirement for a new parking garage was part of the deal.
