Is traffic any better since the minor improvements to the feeder roads at this section? I can only imagine what it will be like around rush hour(s).

Megabus is coming to Houston
houstonartstudent replied to Pleak's topic in Traffic and Transportation
I saw a double-decker Tuesday evening coming from I-10 East to 45-South, presumably to downtown. I'm guessing this is the bus from New Orleans? Does anyone know what types of buses are going to Dallas, San Antonio, Austin(maybe?)....just curious as I bought tickets to Dallas for the June/July weekend and the kid in me is hoping it's a double decker! -

De-Construction of 610 Midrise
houstonartstudent replied to wxman's topic in General Houston Discussions
Was it this building? It's 1900 N Loop W Freeway...I worked in the complex just west of it a few years ago and that building seemed vacant. My guess is structural issues? -
Megabus is coming to Houston
houstonartstudent replied to Pleak's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Yes, I purchased 2 tickets to Dallas and they notified me and said if it would be a problem to email someone (they provided a contact) with a refund request...seeing as my total cost was .50, I could care less to go to the trouble though :/ -
ALDI Grocery Stores
houstonartstudent replied to citykid09's topic in Houston Area Dining, Shopping and Entertainment
I went on a rant on the protesters Facebook page a few months back - I found it real funny that their main complaint was the traffic issue...when they have a signaled intersection with dedicated turn lanes into the neighborhood. From my trip to one in Dallas, it seems like they get the same, if not less, amount of traffic that a typical CVS would...and I'm sure the neighborhood wouldn't be complaining if one of those were trying to move in! -

I know this isn't in the right category, but are they ever going to put a lighted "E" at the top of the Embassy Suites in the little crown on top?!- 2,096 replies

The Galleria Mall At 5085 Westheimer Rd.
houstonartstudent replied to TreaderCRC's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
What are you talking about?? This is Houston...we're known for tearing down landmarks! I was thinking moving the Saks to the old Macy's would be a good idea...but I don't think they'd be willing to move to a less visible area and then deal with construction of the existing mall space for 1-2 years. I figured they'd at least settle if they had prime visibility from Westheimer. -
The Galleria Mall At 5085 Westheimer Rd.
houstonartstudent replied to TreaderCRC's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I've always thought they should build a new Saks (perhaps 4 story to get the same sq. footage) in the parking lot in front of the current, and then redevelop the "common areas" to have a continuous link to the old Macy's...this way they could charge the same rent (if not more) in the galleria III section as the rest of the mall. I don't think they will ever be able to do that if you require people to walk through the existing Saks to get to that section...it needs to visually connect to the rest of the mall. -
Quick question (sorry if it was answered earlier and I didn't see it) - are there cup holders on the backs of the chairs? I remember there being complaints that the seats had no cup holders on the armrests...but while I was at the rodeo I noticed they were on the backs of the seats. I can't tell from the photos, and I'd be curious as to their reasoning for not including them if that's the case.

Apparently there's a Texadelphia set to go in at Washington/Studemont in the strip center next to Walgreens...I wonder if this is where they are "moving" to?

Midtown Restaurant And Bar Scene - More Coming
houstonartstudent replied to WestGrayGuy's topic in Midtown
Drove through the area last night and was surprised how fast things are coming along. The garage for Camden Phase II looks to be close to completion and Post Midtown is already up to 3 floors of framing (if not more, it was dark)...I'm ready to move in! -
I'm hoping that's the case. They're website mentions the location but that they were closed and would be relocating and would announce where in the future. You would think they would just say they're expanding the location...but who knows

Does anybody know what's going on at the former Texadelphia site on Rice Blvd.? It appears that the space is being merged with the neighboring Thai place that shut down a while back. The Texadelphia sign is still up...I'm really hoping they're just expanding because I miss my pizza-steak sandwiches!

ALDI Grocery Stores
houstonartstudent replied to citykid09's topic in Houston Area Dining, Shopping and Entertainment
From my understanding Aldi is quite different that Joe V's...Joe V's almost felt like a smaller Sam's Club with the pallets and products everywhere. However, it was about the size of a smaller-scale grocer (in between the old HEB Pantry's and a typical Randall's) The thing I'm most excited about Aldi is that it's the size of a typical CVS...which means close parking and you don't have to go through a maze if you just want to get some milk but pay the same price that you would at a regular grocery store. I've heard mixed reviews about the service, so I hope employees are motivated, and I would assume the concept has to work well enough if they're able to do such a huge expansion in the US. -
I suppose with the obvious great view I have of the site from my office...I'll have to start contributing with construction photos The precast parking garage has gone up literally in the past week, it appears that there's 1 or 2 levels underground, and I think the wall components are up to the 7th or 8th level of the garage. Work on the building has been going on for the past two months, columns have gone in on the 1st floor and they started pouring concrete today for the 2nd floor. Our view of the Upper Kirby district has pretty much been blocked now, but I'm definitely looking forward to the new restaurants/retail!

I have lots of memories of Grandy's growing up in Victoria, and luckily it's still open there...I do admit every time I've been there it's rarely busy at all, but I have to agree, not one bad thing on the menu. All this talk makes me want to open a franchise when I make it rich
