  1. From yesterday, along the Smith/Travis link:
  2. https://www.flickr.com/photos/beyonddc/5073722055 We can dream. But the expanse of the Tarkett plot seems incongruous with such a multi-level center, which was plopped onto 5.5 acres in a very dense part of DC (and right next to a subway station). You could fit four of those into Tarkett if you forgo the typical Houston salt flat of parking.
  3. http://www.landandfarm.com/property/Oliver_Street_Property-1583824/ This 2.75 acre site sits between Tarkett and Target, and is catty corner from the missing segment of Summer that would connect the two areas. A connector road between the south side of Target and the north side of Kroger would go through this plot. It'd be a great spot for residential.
  4. The Baskin Robbins was just east of Lancaster Street. That strip was torn down by the early 1990s but the tile floor with "31" on it was still visible for quite some time. A&B Soil Lot occupies the site now.
  5. I walked my dog along that segment on Saturday as well. Pics:
  6. I'm almost certain you are talking about the 105 bypass. The Grand Parkway in that area is a long time away from being built (if it ever is) and will cross 59 south of Patton Village, not north, and there aren't any other big east-west projects being planned between the Beltway and Cleveland, that I know of. The 105 bypass is scheduled to open in 2013. And yes, that interchange looks awful big for what I've seen described as only a "two-lane highway." The eastern terminus at 105/321 right by Cleveland High School is similarly gigantic.
  7. There's also 92nd through 97th Street in Manchester.
  8. On the other hand, compared to the other cities in the series, the Southwest side is about the most evenly mixed, best integrated area in the country. Kumbayah!
  9. Same with the giant McDonald's sign at UH. They finally lowered it, repaired it, messed up something important, and had to re-lower it and repair it again. That was this spring, if I remember correctly. The big FOLEY'S sign at Lockwood and 45 was sheared off of its metal structure. The twisted stump is still there and Macy's seems to be in no hurry to remove it or replace the sign.
  10. He didn't even drive to the top floor. Lazy.
  11. From what I have seen it looks like the south feeder will be grade level until right before the trail, at which point it goes elevated to cross both the trail and the little ravine that sits between the Lofts and I-10. Here's what the area in question looked like on Wednesday evening, May 19, as a gigantic crane was installing a light: McRay crane Lady worker, and the columns in the ravine crane arm and light mast
  12. Wow, people are sending out fake censuses? Ballsy.
  13. http://ifglobalwarmi...d.blogspot.com/ ALGORE! ALGORE ALGORE! Look at me! Respond in outrage! ALGORE!
  14. Good eye. The bf and I ate at Larry's BBQ on Saturday and were wondering what could have been the anchor at that plaza.
  15. It has to be "open-air," which technically that area was for a few hours when Ike blew out the windows...
  16. According to NOAA any time White Oak Bayou goes above 36 feet everyone on that little section of White Oak Drive is in big trouble. This has happened ten times since 1929. Historical Crests (1) 51.50 ft on 12/09/1935 (2) 50.43 ft on 03/04/1992 bus rescue (3) 47.06 ft on 09/11/1998 Frances (4) 47.00 ft on 05/31/1929 (5) 46.00 ft on 09/14/2008 Ike (6) 44.84 ft on 06/26/1989 Allison I (7) 44.27 ft on 09/13/2008 Ike (8) 43.60 ft on 11/13/1961 (9) 43.50 ft on 05/20/1972 (10) 41.77 ft on 06/09/2001 Allison the Terrible
