  1. So how fast is too fast? If traffic is moving at 120mph, should you just go with the flow?
  2. I don't think the photo is doctored. I think it was just taken with a long lens. That compresses the depth, making it look like those speed limit signs are close to each other.
  3. Everyone, stop talking about Data Privacy Day! That's the only way to keep this data private!!
  4. There was a time when anyone reading an online forum would have instantly recognized that quote. Sigh.
  5. So if I find a great deal on a 2 year old analog set a month after the deadline, I need a coupon?
  6. They could be carried. Perhaps by an African swallow.
  7. Ah, yet another memo I missed. I thought the right was still publicly preaching boot straps and gumption.
  8. The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
  9. So you draw the line between people who don't have cable or digital sets. Others draw the line at people who can't afford to buy ATSC tuners, while others draw the line at anyone who wants a free ATSC tuner. I don't see any objective criteria that makes one of those lines a winner. My common sense says if you don't take advantage of the opportunities that others do, you put yourself at a disadvantage. Our government offered 2 coupons to everyone who asked for them. Ah, I see. I didn't know the right was so open about grabbing every government hand out they could get. I thought that was part of the secret doctrine.
  10. Yeah, I remember writing that. I was asking why your desire is more worthy of subsidy than others'. The RF spectrum is owned by the public, or so our legal constructs claim. The FCC auctioned the use of the analog TV spectrum that we collectively own (and use until at least Feb. 17th) to private entities. I think that's what kylejack meant. My point is that the government didn't draw a line that defines how much need is enough. Therefore the government should allocate enough funds to give everyone 2 coupons if they want them. Huh?
  11. What is "a very strong need for TV"? How is that different from just enjoying TV a lot? It sounds like you were financially able to buy an ATSC tuner without a coupon. Doesn't that mean you need a coupon less than someone who has no money for a tuner? This is all about over the air TV. There is no impact on cable, satellite or internet TV. I read that it went to the general fund.
  12. But the coupons are available to all. There's no financial hardship requirement. That was part of the deal. If the government promises everyone who wants them ATSC tuners, then the government should provide them to everyone who wants them. Precisely! This is why no one, regardless of income, "needs" an ATSC tuner.
  13. I've got a problem with this notion of "need". Who really needs these coupons? People who have no other way of getting TV? People who just moved and are waiting on cable? People who have cable but might lose power in a hurricane? People who enjoy collecting odd little boxes of electronics? ATSC tuners are not a key ingredient for survival on this planet. I don't see how anyone can defend an objective definition of "need" for them.
  14. Exactly. So no one "needs" these boxes. Hence, we're all equally entitled to them. Like I said, I thought about it. I didn't, but why shouldn't I? This isn't food or shelter we're talking about. It's an ATSC tuner. The government agreed to pay for converters when the FCC was pushing for the digital switch. The FCC saw a way to generate revenue from auctioning the spectrum currently used by analog TV, and was heavily lobbied by the electronics industry that saw a cash cow selling new TVs and ATSC tuner boxes. What's with the personal attack?
  15. One of my goals is to be a missing elderly plastered on those signs. I promised Mrs. Bag I was going to do that before I die.
  16. Last I read, they proponents of the delay are claiming 6.5 million get their TV over the air exclusively.
  17. Again, huh? What makes someone a bottom feeder or a non-actual taxpayer if they use the coupons the government offers them to get the converter box they wouldn't need if the FCC hadn't auctioned off the spectrum they used to use to watch TV?
  18. Huh? I don't have any analog TVs at home, plus I have cable, so I have no need for extra ATSC converters. But even I was tempted to get some coupons and buy a couple just in case I run into some fantastic deal on a TV without one in the future. I can easily see people who don't absolutely have to have an ATSC tuner going ahead and getting some if the government is paying. Otherwise, it's like you're putting yourself at a disadvantage.
  19. I don't see a judgement in that. Does it feel that way because I quoted your use of the term "punks"? Or do you feel insecure about enjoying films like "Underworld"? I'm not saying that's a bad film to like (I may watch it someday, and enjoy a lot of films that teenagers also enjoy) or that you're a bad person for liking it. I really thought that might be a reason we have had such different experiences at that theater. What "central stair" are you talking about? The stairs outside the box office, between the two escalators?
  20. Chill out. I've got nothing against "Underworld". My post was not judging you, just offering a possible explanation for our different experiences.
  21. Feh. I like the current size. Why does it need to be bigger or more visible?
  22. I think I see. Is "Underworld" typical of the films you see? Perhaps you just have film tastes that are similar to those of "punks" and are destined to encounter them as long as that is true.
  23. The gubbamint said anyone who wants coupons can have them, regardless of "need". What motivation would anyone have to refuse a handout?
  24. That's the first time I've ever seen the profanity filter improve a statement.
