  1. I like it. Only four blocks from the other Whataburger though. Maybe they're going for Alonti-esque downtown density.
  2. Anyone know what is going on there? It looks like they removed all of the pavement from the ground level. It is behind the 1121 Walker building that has been vacant for a long time. Would be neat to see something come of that block.
  3. I'm interested to see how that thing empties out at 5:30.
  4. Saw no activity going on today. Last week could have just been a quick patch job.
  5. This activity could be very close to nothing (all I saw was two guys with a ladder), but I've walked by there a hundred times and only ever seen a little activity over by the crater on Capitol @ Fannin. I'll scout it out next week and see if there is anything else going on that I can see from other sides.
  6. I almost missed it. They sort of blended in with the light rail construction and work going on across the street in the parking garage. There were at least two guys on top of the covered walkway moving a ladder around. It's not much, but it is evidence of work being done, so that's good.
  7. Airport/airline discussions seem to all go this direction of late.
  8. Haven't seen any. Given that it was always an office building with some retail at the street level, I'm not sure how much they have to work with. You can see from the street that the structural steel columns are fairly close together, so unless they do something expensive structurally, the lobby will look much different than the wide open hotel lobbies that I am used to seeing. It did not have the bank architecture to work with like the Icon. Should be a very interesting building.
  9. Presumably so. The only tunnels that went to the building were basically dead ends. There was apparently one from the "Foley's Garage" and one from 1000 Main, but they did not connect through to anything else. I was kind of curious how they secured/reincorced the passages during the implosion. I'm guessing that 1000 Main had one of the big steel storm doors that sealed it off, most buildings got those after Allison, but somewhere under the old site is a pile of rubble leading to that cutoff point. It will be interesting to see what the hole looks like once they get the debris all cleared out. That area of downtown has the very specific smell of old building innards suddenly exposed. I remember it from the WTC site when I visited in December of '01.
  10. That's definitely the odd part. As close to the lot line as the building was, it blocked out a lot of the view any time you were near it. Being able to see what is on the other side messes with the part of your brain that was used to the way things looked from a certain familiar location.
  11. Their terribleness is so bad, it actually emits a low frequency sound that annoys pets and causes bowel discomfort.
  12. I just wish there was a place downtown that served breakfast all day. An omelet would be great for lunch. I'd recommend that House of Pies open up a shop in the new Marriott, but it would end up charging inflated hotel food rates.
  13. I was thinking that high up in the Centerpoint building would work, maybe First City.
  14. Death mask has been applied, neighboring buildings are in the process of averting their eyes...
  15. Skanska is gutting out the interior of the Houston Club building right now. It took them a while to start that process, but they are definitely spending money on it.
  16. I am intrigued by the one way roundabout idea for 45/10/59, it sounds blissfully simple.
  17. Interesting looking at the Travis St. side. You will notice that they have cables threaded through the wall, I'm guessing that they are providing some tension inward so it will collapse in to itself once the BOOM happens.
  18. Not as sexy as a rendering, but they are getting after the re-do presently...
