  1. I made the mistake of buying a 2006 Lexus IS250. Never ever buy a Lexus if you are a true car enthusiast. I traded it in after 9 months.
  2. Exactly. The whole brand is tainted. They should call it the Opel Insignia here too. Ford tried that with Merkur in the 80s and failed but the American brands are far more damaged now than they were in the 80s.
  3. not going to miss the intolerant red one

  4. I don't care how nasty Gulfton, Sharpstown, Greenspoint, etc.. are. I don't go there. When people tell me that Houston is an ugly city I tell them that it's not ugly if you just avoid the bad parts. When you've got West U., Midtown, the Memorial Villages, etc. why would you even pay any attention to Gulfton?
  5. I also want a ban on cell phone use in bathrooms. If you can't wait until you get out of the stall to talk to your wife you've got problems.
  6. Thanks sevfiv. Now maybe I can finally found out where my grandparents lived.
  7. I found some Citycentre photos from Midway on flickr... http://www.flickr.com/photos/34075996@N07/sets/72157612253871392/
  8. Then that's an even worse reason for calling it the Katy Freeway. Do they really call the section of I-10 to the West of Katy the Katy Freeway? Why would they do that? Every street or road should have only one name to avoid confusion. What about the Gulf Freeway? What is that named after? I'm assuming it's because it leads to the Gulf Of Mexico. Maybe it was name after Gulf Oil, who knows? It's called I-45, it doesn't need a nickname.
  9. I brought it up as a stupid idea to point out that calling I-10 "The Katy Freeway" is a stupid idea. It confuses newcomers to the city. The original poster by asking the question is pointing out the problem. Who knows where the "Katy Freeway" begins and ends? Why don't we call it the "Sealy Freeway"? It leads there too. Do people in Katy call the portion of I-10 to the West of them the "Brookshire Freeway"? If you visited Katy and heard people calling it that would you know what they were talking about? If they called it I-10 you would.
  10. It's there now, why not change it? If we're going to use all these arbitrary names why not name every road after where it goes?
  11. Me too. Who decided to come up with all these confusing names? Every road should have only one name. The Katy Freeway is "I-10 West" to me, on the other side of downtown it's "I-10 East". There are people that live their entire lives in Houston without ever even knowing where Katy is. Why should we name one of our roads after it? Why isn't 45 North called the Woodlands Freeway? None of it makes any sense to someone who is new to the city. I wonder if people in Beaumont call I-10 "The Houston Freeway".
  12. Calling the area Uptown will always get that stupid Billy Joel song into my brain. Please, let's don't assoicate the Galleria area with Billy Joel.
  13. I wouldn't describe 10 Legend Lane as being right off Beltway 8. It's a little over a 3/4 mile drive from the Beltway. $2.3 million is a little high for the area. New construction seems to usually be around the $1 million to $1.5 million. They may be overbuilding for the neighborhood a bit. It is a great place to live as long as you don't work Downtown or in the Medical Center though. It's like living in the country. You'll wake up seeing all kinds of wildlife right outside your front door most mornings. For people who work in the Galleria or Energy Corridor this is an awesome location.
  14. Yes there have been layoffs and I'm sorry to have to say that it's not going to get better anytime soon. It's going to get worse.
  15. I guess I've never really thought of something that doesn't have parking surrounding it as a mall. I guess you could call it what you want but it sounds more like a strip center with a hallway down the middle.
  16. After Texasvines made that post I tried to find evidence of Westchase mall but have not been able to. I looked at historical aerial photos and asked people who lived in the area at the time to no avail. From what I can see in old aerial photos all the buildings on Westheimer between Walnut Bend and Wilcrest have been there since at least 1981 in their current configuration. In the photos from 1973 it's an empty field. I guess he's talking about the current Target shopping center. It looks almost identical in 1981 aerial photos to today. It looks like it was a typical strip center... parking lot in front, semi trailers in back at loading docks. Does anyone have anymore information on Westchase mall?
  17. I don't work for Exxon but I work with Exxon employees all the time. They seem to be the most professional of all the oil companies I've worked with. Most of them are extremely bright. I wouldn't hesitate to take a job with them. ExxonMobil is probably more stable than the U.S. government at the moment.
  18. I think the typical fee in Houston is around 40 cents a sq. ft. for high-rises. I would think this one would be at least $1000 a month.
  19. I'm in the market for a larger place and being a fan of MCM I've always been interested in 5050 Woodway. Does anyone know anything about this building? I don't know anything about it other than what has been shown in listings in HAR over the years. The maintenance fee seems to be very low for a high rise. That kind of scares me. I wonder if the maintenance on the building is being done as it should be. Current Listing in 5050 Woodway
  20. A friend of mine in college had a truck that had no window on the passenger side. Stupid criminals busted out the other window in an attempt to steal the radio. He wound up with no windows on either side.
  21. Ferrari of Houston is more of a race shop than a dealership. The showroom floor doesn't even look good enough to be selling Hyundais. Step into the back though and they have one of the best race shops in the world. They just sell cars so they can race.
  22. Actually he said "refrain from swilling cheap beer while walking down major streets". I imagine it would be OK to drink cheap beer in your home or at a bar.
  23. I don't care if it's a $1000 bottle of scotch. If you see people walking around in the middle of the day drinking alcohol on the streets you're probably in a bad neighborhood.
