  1. I watched it last night. They spent way too much time on the Trader's Village. But it did remind me of the art car parade this weekend. I would give the show a C+.
  2. This may be a dumb question but... Hasn't this land been a park "Houston Center Gardens" since the 80's? What's the difference now? I guess this will be a special park?
  3. No, I am referring to the "Edge City" phenomenon cited in the book by Joel Garreau Edge City: Life on the New Frontier. Sugarland is fast becoming a city on the edge of another city.
  4. The owner of the Minnesota Vikings, Red McCombs has ties to SA. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to move to SA?
  5. Dream On! No way San Antonio gets it over LA. Houston had a hard enough time winning over LA with a brand new stadium. A spruced up Alamodome won't cut the mustard. I wonder if this means a new stadium for New Orleans isn't going to happen?
  6. I hate to admit this in an open forum but I run red lights from time to time. Come on now, this is Houston. I have to agree though, Darwin was at work with this accident. How does one not see a large silver bullet with flashing lights racing towards them? I have to also agree with NO CROSSING GATES FOR MAIN STREET. Spend that money somewhere else.
  7. Wow! Sugarland is growing up....literally. The edge city phenomenon continues.
  8. Okay. Question: Is it Rice Boulevard or Rice Avenue? The diagram say Blvd. There is a difference. I am thinking it is Rice Avenue in uptown and not Rice Boulevard in the Village. With that being said, I think the design is hideous. Perhaps it will look better when built.
  9. Wow! The Houston Press got medieval on their ass. That will pretty much will keep me from going there. I liked Charlie's. It was a freak show late at night. Food was decent.
  10. Good Lord! You are boobalicious!
  11. Believe it or not, I actually know of gay people living in the Woodlands. That is about as liberal as you can get. I wouldn't worry about being the only liberals. Of course, if you feel completely outnumbered the inner loop is the sanctuary.
  12. Okay.... So wasn't this theater supposed to have retail or resturants inside? What happened? Soft market? No investors? Anyone have any info? Don't get me wrong I like the murals of future restaurants. Just wondering.
  13. I am so excited about this project. What a great way to create density within the central business district. This will surely add a much needed connection between Main Street and the East End. One thing though, I do not like that website. You can not look at any of the rendering in detail. The towers will be office or residential? I am guessing that the "central park" the city is planning will be at the Eastern end of this project? This should send downtown into critical mass in terms of entertainment choices. Personally I would like to get to a point where we get rid of every surface parking lot in downtown. The days of the downtown ghost town are over. It is time to fill in the blanks in our CBD.
  14. I am glad to see development starting to make its way South along 288. I have always wondered when this would happen. Pearland will explode in the next few years. I am glad to see Brazoria county,my home county, pick up in "big city" developement. Imagine mid rise towers in Pearland.
  15. Wow! Those bring back some memories. Downtown Bryan is looking good. I lived in BCS when it was the hood. (1992-1997). I haven't seen the new Chemical Engineering Building, across form the McDonalds on University. I need to back to BCS and have a look around.
  16. Two Words: INNER LOOP Yes, I am an inner loop snob. Everything worth seeing/doing is inside the loop. Trust me, I had a tour of duty in Sugarland/Stafford. I lasted 6 months.
  17. 4th ward land < midtown land = new HSPVA at West Dallas and Taft
  18. My friends and I call it "Whole Paycheck". However, it would be cool if they built in midtown.
  19. I can not tell you how excited I am that the Southwest corner of West Gray and Taft will become a cleaners..... (HUGE SARCASM) There is a cleaners less than 3 blocks away.
  20. You are right...The sheet metal shop is one block down on Mason and West Gray
  21. The rumor has it that a condo tower (6 story) will go in at the Southeast corner of West Gray and Taft on the site of the old sheet metal shop. As a very close neighbor, I can not wait. There is pretty much hearsay as I do not have a link. Also, I would like to know what is planned for the old Seafood Take Out Restaurant that was leveled. Southwest Corner of West Gray aand Taft.
  22. Wow! I have never visited the campus but only have driven through on the way to New Orleans.... It isn't a backwater swamp campus afterall.... Now University of Louisiana- Lafayette (formerly USL)....that's a different story.
