  1. The request states several things: That the bridge idea was a no-go with Union Pacific That a modification of the Hernandez Tunnel allowed traffic from Burnett That the TIRZ does not have anymore money to take on another project such as the new tunnel Other projects in the area render this tunnel useless
  2. So this is saying that they don't even want the tunnel to connect San Jacinto and Fulton. As a Northside resident, I think this will be a mistake. We need more connections and more access to downtown, not less. I do agree though that widening Fulton from 2 to 4 lanes isn't even viable.
  3. I remember how excited I was about this project in 2015 but it seems nothing really came of it. I rarely see anyone here, even though it was renovated. I guess it's just used occasionally?
  4. They are tearing down two homes across from Buff Brew? Do we happen to know what project that is in relation to?
  5. Here's the official website: http://www.park8htx.com/ Here's a person discussing the project: https://kelliekeese.com/park-eight Where are our HAIF investigators! There have to be better renderings than these. Looks like this is Park Eight?
  6. Wait, does the bike lane currently keep going up Polk St. and connect to Austin St.? This might be something new I hadn't seen before.
  7. I don't see Finn Hall surviving, at least in its current state. It's dead during peak lunchtime hours when it should be full of office workers and much to my surprise, was even dead in the evening after hours, when we expected people to be at the bar getting drinks. It was so bad the past few evenings we gone that the singer/guitarist they hire to play live music leaves after about 5 songs because there's literally no one else in there, so he's definitely not getting any tips.
  8. They laid down the final markings. Sure enough, they didn't coordinate with Bike Houston so these brand new street markings will only be there for a few months.
  9. No, it's currently on the ground in the flood plain. This is actually before I-45 closer to Houston Ave and Studemont.
  10. https://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/get-involved/about/hearings-meetings/houston/072622.html?fbclid=IwAR3ivAMnO24msSi1KLOH91bSzdS2tlL7EEZqpf_CPlTbdtYtgXRQgG3fHK4 First Ward residents are concerned of the increased noise this would have on their area.
  11. I know many residents in the area and we would frequently go to Spring Street with them. I think it fit the area well. I also think most residents would also agree not to make it club-y. lol
  12. Very exciting!! Can't wait to go
  13. With this news, it has to be dead right? This is where the station was going in. Damn!
  14. Right, he's saying it irks him that the resurfacing project isn't related to the bike lane project, so they'll have to remark this brand new road fairly shortly. I really hope that they find a way to make both work. The bike project is literally waiting on TXDOT approval but I don't see why they don't go ahead with the non-TXDOT segment while the road hasn't been paved yet.
  15. I can't possibly imagine traffic that was once on I-45 coming through my neighborhood to downtown. The idea of removing I-45 and channeling it into 610 would face backlash from almost all sides of this debate. The residents here wouldn't accept it.
  16. This is turning into a damn circus. I feel like everyone's backed themselves into a corner. My bet is this project moves forward after the midterms.
  17. Went there tonight. Not sure what happened to the Alley but it got replaced by Ice Ice Boba. Maybe that was the plan all along or did the franchise name get pulled. Talked to a few people and apparently that's not quite easy to do... So not sure what happened here.
  18. Did the Alley shut down? It's not listed on their website nor appears on Google Maps.
  19. Interesting. I guess we are the opposite of most countries then. lol
  20. There is a very real possibility the federal government may want to jump start transit projects in cities hosting the World Cup. We've seen this done in other countries.
  21. Ah yes, our neighborhood met with Bike Houston about this project. We have a lot of concerns around traffic volumes during concerts at White Oak Music Hall, which there are surprisingly a lot of. So they are revisiting a few of the intersections along the route to see if they can add in right and left turn lanes here and there. That being said, the project is ready to go forward once they get final approval from TXDOT. Phase 1 is from Pecore to Boundary. Phase 2 is Pecore to Airline. Sort of poor timing but another contractor is repaving N Main right now. Wish they had waited for the bike lanes to come in so they don't have to remark it twice.
  22. I think this project is looking more dead by the day but my main concern is the major price increases on everything that make this project harder to see going forward. That being said, I'm not sure how you can say it was never financially feasible. This is a private company... I'm pretty sure they had detailed analysis on how they could make this thing run, in the right conditions. Plus, I'm sure support from the federal government was going to be part of the goal as well. Edit: That being said, I don't see how any American can applaud this project's demise. Seeing a private company trying to accomplish what other developed nations have proven time and time again... to see that come to our soil... to see a group of people trying to actually build something, instead of tearing it down... that truly says something. Almost all the infrastructure you drive on today was once someone's property and sometimes it takes some fields to get things built in this country. We don't dream big anymore and if this project were to collapse, this would further strengthen that argument.
  23. Makes me wonder how many years it will take before they buy the Target property and convert it. The way they developed this, it would be very easy to connect all the way to San Felipe.
  24. I think Railway Heights was a good addition to the area Railway Heights by Marc longoria, on Flickr
