  1. I highly doubt the mall as we know it will be torn down. Afterall, the mall is "only" 21 years old. If anything, it'll be added on to or expanded towards the waterway but I don't see them leveling the mall for many, many, many years to come. That mall is a cash cow.
  2. Hell why not stop the rail in College Station. Having the main train station 20 miles away from downtown is ridiculously inconvenient to pretty much everybody who doesn't live along the 290 corridor. Furthermore, the idea is to not only connect business between the two cities but cultures as well. Stopping that far northwest of the city makes it a hassle to get to midtown, downtown or NRG Park. Their heart is in the right place but I don't know where in the h e l l their brain is.
  3. It's gonna look pretty slick but slightly out of place compared to the other very dated terminals with the bland, beige walls on the outside.
  4. That's a slick line-up. Who are the carriers? Singapore, Qatar, Air France and Emirates? Would be cool to see Air China and Lufthansa in there, too.
  5. I read yesterday that Anadarko's deal to purchase Apache fell through. I wonder if somebody else will move in and try and buy them? If so, bye bye headquarters, yes?
  6. This comes on the heels of oil getting ready to set a new low as it sheds almost 3% today. Ugh...
  7. Go figure. I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to take advantage of cheap material to build the tower knowing that by the time the price of oil recovers, you're building is ready to be delivered. I mean if you're hell bent on developing the property, to my trivial, elementary mind, it makes sense.
  8. For as short as this building is currently, it certainly has a dominating presence while driving down the west loop.
  9. I would assume that every highrise building, from the foundation to the pillars are over engineered by a large degree. I'm sure the foundation could probably support a building far taller than "just" 36 stories. I'm not an engineer but I would assume that's the case.
  10. That picture PRECISELY describes what I was trying to say in a previous post about the Chase Tower not aging well. It's aged poorly and is in serious need of a power wash.
  11. Has anybody seen the new mid/highrise going up at the corner of Sawdust and Budde? It's already about 9 stories tall. I got a pic of it and will try and upload it. It's a fairly dominating structure (only because everything else around it is strip malls and body shops. It can easily be seen from the North Frwy as well. Anybody know what i'm talking about?
  12. Well Houston won the Air New Zealand battle with ORD so I suspect we have a decent shot.
  13. Not to mention if this IS a 100+ story building, it would take years to complete anyway. Far longer than any project to date in this city probably. What? 3 years maybe? It's hard to forecast market conditions for next year much less three years but it only stands to reason we won't be in the oil slump we're in now at that time.
  14. First, it's a very dull building with little aesthetic appeal. Second, especially when you're right up next to it, the building needs power washing. There is black something (mold?) around the windows where the water runs off the building. I dunno, I just don't much care for the way it looks. Nothing personal lol. Love the height tho.
  15. Definitely a different appearance. Chase is a hideously ugly building that has aged poorly. The only reason why I "like" this building is because it's a supertall and the tallest in Texas. But having a building equal in height could be interesting for sure.
  16. Well being that they haven't jumped the crane and they're working on the 15th floor, I'd imagine this is it. The renderings looked far taller tho.
  17. Wasn't this supposed to be 24-stories? Not sure why the tree is up already.
  18. What's the threshold to be considered a highrise? Is it 400'? Isn't 500' considered a demarcation for something?
  19. No way this project is getting out of the ground by then. Oil prices aren't expected to recover in 2016 and even if they DID, they're not going to move dirt the moment oil tops $70 or $80 a barrel. I suspect this project is either DOA or still 5+ years away and will likely be reduced in size. I'm talking out my a $ $ currently, I admit, but I suspect that's what will happen.
  20. I agree that this building is sexy. Sure, it's not a skyline changer and most people won't even notice it's presence but I love the sunken lobby, open to the outside. Not to mention, this will rival Pennzoil in height won't it?
