  1. live coverage online: http://www.khou.com/home/238613191.html my condo is a few blocks from here...
  2. Finally some movement here: http://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/03-19-14-austin-takeover-of-houston-continues-with-construction-of-new-dog-friendly-montrose-bar-and-grill/ i didn't notice anything when i drove by the site yesterday, but it was night and honestly i stopped paying attention to it since the announcement last fall...
  3. i'm in the same boat, been by walking or biking 3 times and its been closed each time. twice on weekends and once last week in the middle of a weekday...
  4. SA has a tough schedule ahead as well, but ours is tougher. 2 seed would be great, but realistically i would say that is best case - do you really think we'll catch OKC having to play them twice, miami and indiana? we are basically sitting in a 3-way tie in the 3 spot right now. I'd be happy to just top those 3 and get home court in the first two rounfs.
  5. CSN is killing me. I never thought this would last as long as it has regarding other providers picking up the channel. 3 good games coming up on national TV, hopefully I'll be able to catch them.
  6. There is a sign at the current unofficial dog park (montrose and allen) stating the area will be closed for construction on 1/27 and won't be opening again until October. Seems like a long time to build a dog park, but I know they are incorporating a lot of features. I really wish they would build a ped bridge over Allen near Taft. Going to Montrose or the ped bridge closer to downtown is quite far if you are on foot. I think it would be heavily utilized by the residents to the south, and be useful during the Art Car parade, Marathon, etc.
  7. at least the interior resembles a restaurant now. Anyone hear a date for opening?
  8. Thanks for the pics and article. I'll need to go check this out soon, it looks like they did a really good job given what was left after the fire.
  9. Went for a ride this morning and there were a lot of joggers/walkers/bikers out there. I like that they added asphalt paths on the north side (between Sabine and Montrose) with signs stating 'No Biking'. A lot of joggers were using those making it easier for bikers on the new wide sidewalks.
  10. I heard mention of $200,000 per flight, so probably not that many people at first.
  11. The Chron article mentioned a program with a set contractor and rate/ft. That alone would be really helpful for people to do it themselves, and of course a subsidy would really help.
  12. I had no idea that sidewalks where the owner's responsibility. Where I grew up it was always fixed automatically (which I thought was by the city), but I'm guessing that was done by the HOA. Luckily my street is in pretty good shape, but most other streets I run on around Montrose are pretty bad. In a street with a torn up sidewalk the length of 20 houses, what is going to get one owner to shell out $$ when that won't make a contiguous walkable sidewalk anyways? I guess it has to start somewhere, but I don't see it happening without the city stepping in somehow. And as far as commercial goes, we rarely have a stretch without an empty lot or some owner that has no motivation to fix their sidewalks.
  13. Market will be there Wednesday - Sunday. Those restaurants are also packed for Dynamo home games.
  14. I have no issues, i ride and run there several times a week. I hope they don't delay things... Is there a way to speak out against a petition or will the developer have enough ammo to squash something like this?
  15. The letter (no source identified) states: "The applicant intends to retain the front and side walls and demolish the rest of the building- our concern is that the visibility triangle will not be addressed to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the future."
  16. Someone in the neighborhood sent out a notice trying to gather support against the Variance request. They are stating that the request to not maintain a visibility triangle poses a danger to pedestrians and cyclists. Given the visibility concern is for the NE corner of crossing two-way streets, there may be some concern of cars creeping up, but they should always be looking left for northbound traffic. If a biker is coming southbound they're at fault anyways. I guess if they build to the extreme corner there may be some concern for joggers but I just don't see it.
  17. I'm sure there is another thread for this, but couldn't find any info. The old fiesta center on Dunlavy and West Alabama is pretty much demolished. Any one know what's going in, if anything, there?
  18. Planning Commission meeting scheduled for 8/8 at 2:30. I got the full variance request since I own on an adjacent lot. So is Pizaros taking up the whole building?
  19. A friend of mine used to wait tables there, this was with the old owner around 3 years ago. He wasn't happy with the way things were run and left. Soon after I ran into the supposed new owner who came from Cali with his brother and bought it, we had a 15 minute conversation at the Webster dog park. I have been 4 times in the last 5 years, always for Sunday brunch but never had any problems with racism (with either mixed tables with mostly minorities or all minority - though not black - tables). Can't say I'll miss it but hope something good takes its place soon.
  20. no worries, they sure do look completely shut down when they are closed!
  21. I heard a patio type bar was going in from a friend who lives around there, but didn't see anything official.
  22. I could never figure out their hours. They seemed to be closed randomly. I live a few blocks away and it was nice to be able to get a quick unique sandwich when I wanted it. I have tried 5 different sandwiches there, and several were outstanding, the others were average. last time i went we called ahead for 10 sandwiches on the morning of Summerfest, and everyone (mostly out of towners) were happy with the food. Edit: Just called, they are open until 3pm for the next two weeks, then back to their normal hours closing at 8pm.
  23. that would be pretty close to Pink's... Kinkaid - happen to remember the name of the pizza place?
