Obviously we need to build a new stadium.

Other than an immigration center I can't understand anyone wanting to build there.

Isn't that the building that formally housed Scott Gertners Skybar?
-
Was Meyer Park once known as Meyerland Plaza?
No. Meyerland Plaza is on Beechnut and 610 and way predates Meyer Park.

I understand the Tidelands Motor Inn had a club and a lot of big time performers played there in it's early days. An interesting tidbit: The Smothers Brothers debut album "The Smothers Brothers At The Purple Onion" was actually from a recorded show at the Tidelands because their Purple Onion recording had to many sound problems.
I never went to the Tidelands when it was a hotel but went there a lot while Rice used it as a it's graduate apartments. And I monitored it's tear down about 5 years or so ago (lots of asbestos). It was in pretty bad shape by then.

The first of the clubs, slated to open in March, will have a country western theme and feature a mechanical riding bull. The club will be called PBR, as in professional bull riding.
Seems this type of club would do better in Pasadena, not downtown Houston.

Isn't it the largest building in the bottom right corner, with the "scalloped" roofline and faux-columns?
That would be it.

Could also look into the Rice University Memorial Chapel.

The space is going to need a LOT of work.

Just in case, I'm ordering the Rosetta Stone German lessons.

To me the d-bag is the one drinking lite beer and prefers quantity over quality, but that's just my opinion.

Mexican place on Kirby north of Richmond- it was FULL of UT stuff!Casa Dominguez? It used to be in that area before relocating to Bellaire about 20 years ago.

LOL. Those are great. I'm guessing from the 90's? Definitely before New Wiess was built.

I know there are a lot of urban explorers here on HAIF. Has anyone been to the tunnels beneath Rice University?
There's 2.6 miles of tunnels down there. And the Facilities department even has tours open to the public! http://facilities.ri...nt.aspx?id=2248
It's nothing great. Rice distributes most of it's heating, cooling and electricity from 2 main central plants through these utility tunnels. You can't actually walk from one end of the campus to the other. Pretty much every building has a locked gate to prevent entry plus it's a very tight squeeze in some areas. There are also manhole covers but again you wouldn't get far before you came to a locked gate.

Listen up, fans of craft beer. Anvil's Bobby Heugel and Kevin Floyd — the beer guru at the cutting-edge cocktail bar — plan to open a beer bar just down the Westheimer Curve, in the former Chances location.
Should be good.

No the grocery store in Meyerland Plaza was a Henke & Pilot and later became a Kroger. Then an antique store.
My bad. It was a Henke and Pilot. I was confusing it with the Weingartens at Stella Link and Braeswood that I also frequently shopped.
-
Weingarten's were everywhere in the 60's I believe the grocery store at Meyerland Mall started out as a Weingarten's.

Oops. Thinking of wrong theater. Glad to see that one gone.

Infiniti M, I presume.
I love the analog clock in my QX. Too bad it is too low to be of any real use. I've had several cars that had analog clocks in them in the past 10 years.

Is that an analog clock on the dash? If so it's fitting, I think Chrysler's are fugly and have horrible styling.
Hey, don't be dissing analog clocks! I have one in my vehicle.

Alex Bennett: "The man you love to hate"
Several mp3 audio file airchecks of Alex Bennett/James Bond at this site The Vasthead Houston Retro Radio. Many other KILT and Houston radio airchecks at that site also.
Wow. That really was a poor English accent. Guess when I was 15 it sounded realistic to me.
-
Ahh yes. I forgot the original H&H was not S&P. Did not know Bond and Bennett were the same guy. Very interesting.
-
That was great. Loved the ads. Forgot about some like the Mike Persia commercial. Also forgot most of the deejay names. James Bond was the morning guy. Must have been right before Hudson and Harrigan (Stevens and Pruett) started.
